Camera Obscura - My Maudlin Career

Listening to this reminds me how much fun mopey music can be. I haven't listened to any new Morrissey in years, but this reminds me of what I used to enjoy about his music.

I like this album very much. It's pleasant in a not-boring way.

Heard "French Navy" in a Los Angeles 99 cent store recently. This incident to be paired with the time I heard "Hey Lloyd" at a gas station in a bad part of the Valley.

Did either of these get radio play? Is French Navy a hit on Spanish radio?

"French Navy" was sandwiched between Billy Joel and Fleetwood Mac fwiw.

Do we have a thread about lyrics that hit a bit too close to home and you just have to <3 them for it? "when you're lucid, you're the sweetest thing. i would trade in my mother to hear you sing" oh my god i may have to listen to this song like a million times in a row.

That's so damn true! I saw them twice a couple of years ago and she looked like she'd rather be doing just about anything else.

I think that's just her face, nothing to do with her emotional state, although I'm sure the problem is aggravated hearing "cheer up, hen" a dozen times a day.

what else sounds like this? and not just lol b&s and other co albums. and is this good?

These guys are usually pretty good live, but "French Navy" is just not the same song without the strings :(

has the new album leaked? "do it again" doesn't do much for me. I'll still buy it the day it comes out.

I have a promo copy. I don't think it comes out for several more weeks, but I hope people get really excited about it. It's scaled back a bit from their last couple albums, but the songs are just wonderful

There doesn't seem to be a lot of hype so far but I'm really looking forward to it. It's out on June 3rd so there is still time for people to get excited.

New album is out there now. Sounds beautiful so far, a bit more understated than the last album.

Think they've finally made an album as good as Biggest Bluest Hi-Fi.

strange that they are touring with she and him because they are essentially the same band now. will they all play at once? it's a tad adult contemporary but then, they are old. a bit dull and overly polished. on first listen my least favorite record of theirs.

I really like the new record and I've never liked them or this kind of "music"

I was just wondering about this band. I didn't know about the horrible news with Lander's passing until just now. So sad. I'm guessing they dropped the Camera Obscura name.

New albums out

Tracyanne Campbell has such a wonderful voice - mournful, expressive and hopeful all at once. I dont understand why she isn't the only voice on this. Even her barely-whispered backing vocals on "Jacqueline" overshadow Danny Coughlan's attempts to hold the spotlight.

Civil and political VS economic, social and cultural are the two main categories of human rights for historical reasons, since there were two blocks at the time the Covenants elaborated on the Declaration. You're right that we don't really speak like that any more and just say human rights.

The special attention granted to LGBTQ people is under the angle of discrimination because the rest (protection from threats, hate speech etc) is presumably already covered unless you live in criminalizing countries... except of course that some states have proven to fail / be complicit and then it becomes a judicial battle to enforce. But speaking of rights is still correct imo.
