...listen carefully to the sound
Of your loneliness
Like a heartbeat, drives you mad
In the stillness of remembering
what you had, And what you lost

I'm not a child anymore
I'm tall enough
To reach for the stars
I'm old enough
To love you from afar
Too trusting... yes?
But then women usually are

I will die happy if "You make loving fun" is the last thing I ever hear

Revive! But...

Lots and lots of talk about FM, post-75. But let's give the revival an explicit twist:

Pre-Buckingham-Nicks Fleetwood Mac: S/D

Mitya (mitya), Friday, 17 March 2006 04:59 (eighteen years ago) link

two years pass...

It's a shame that the revival never took off, as I might have gotten Future Games earlier.

It's really crazy...every time I think I've heard everything worth hearing by Fleetwood Mac, it turns out that I overlooked something. Anyway, Future Games: their prog rock, Pink Floyd-y album. Long songs, heavy Kirwan influence. I kind of wish they'd had another album or two in this vein (bits of Bare Trees fit that description, but only bits). Still trying to decide whether I prefer the title track, Woman of 1000 Years or Sands of Time.

I'm kind of sad that it looks (at least now) like the Fleetwood Mac reissue program is over. I'd kill to have Then Play On, Kiln House, Bare Trees, Future Games, and Mystery To Me remastered w/bonus tracks. (Also the sound of my Future Games CD is a little muddy...wonder if that's how the vinyl was or if remastering would help. On the other hand, the muddy sound does add to the spacy vibe, so maybe it's not all bad.)

As far as the question of Pre Buckingham-Nicks S/D, the answer as far as I can tell is that pretty much everything is essential. Haven't found an album yet that I don't like, and am now working on live stuff, boots, etc. Maybe the Live In Chicago isn't so hot, but I haven't heard that since I was like 12.

How fortunate you revived this, cuz I was gonna post:

Fleetwood Mac Plots Return -- With Or Without Crow

i'm certainly interested - i still think say you will was a great return to form

YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUU, YOU MAKE LOVING FUN!

youcangoyourownway, Wednesday, 26 March 2008 00:45 (sixteen years ago) link

I love this band, hence my name.

youcangoyourownway, Wednesday, 26 March 2008 00:45 (sixteen years ago) link

I wish LB had done more outside producing

I wonder how much money you'd have to throw at him to get him to produce an album

J0hn D., Wednesday, 26 March 2008 01:21 (sixteen years ago) link

Sheryl Crow? Yuck.

I have Future Games on vinyl and yes I recall it having a muddy sound.

Bimble, Wednesday, 26 March 2008 01:22 (sixteen years ago) link

John, you were born too late. Had you been hanging around John Stewart in the late seventies, you could even have gotten Stevie to sing harmonies!

(however, how the fuck Dream Academy got him to produce and play on a track will remain a mystery. Anyone got stories?)

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Wednesday, 26 March 2008 01:23 (sixteen years ago) link

i don't reckon he'd be that expensive - it doesn't seem like he's ever been in demand (or is he just not a gun for hire?)

electricsound, Wednesday, 26 March 2008 01:24 (sixteen years ago) link

Buckingham seems like the kind of guy who, after hearing your demos, would mumble, "Mm, yeah, great, lemme think about it," then not return your phone calls for months. Meanwhile, he's adding eight million guitar overdubs and crazy harmonies.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Wednesday, 26 March 2008 01:26 (sixteen years ago) link

yeah I think the deal with Buckingham as producer would be you'd have to cede total control to him. not all producers are like that and most artists can't handle it because they have been raised to think that The Artist must have The Vision etc

maybe I should call Lindsay up though and see if he's got some time in June

This sounds like a shot at Dream Academy. I like Dream Academy!

you've heard the drogonfly single, right? recorded right after welch joined i think. so spacey. the welch/kirwan lineup is my favorite

please do this

electricsound, Wednesday, 26 March 2008 02:19 (sixteen years ago) link

i note that he is now label-less as well. another job for four a d?

electricsound, Wednesday, 26 March 2008 02:19 (sixteen years ago) link

Linsey Buckingham is label-less? That's outrageous, unless it's by choice. Was it?

Daniel, Esq., Wednesday, 26 March 2008 02:22 (sixteen years ago) link

oh, i guess dragonfly was before welch joined, i was fooled by that youtube video. great song anyway

gershy, Wednesday, 26 March 2008 02:25 (sixteen years ago) link

Ok I worship the band. But whoever wrote that 1995's Buckingham/Nicksless Time was worthwhile owes me the 60:19 that allmusic says it took me to listen to this Olive Garden rock. Seriously - remember that $15/plate dinner you had after some boring milestone in your life? The one with funky breadsticks, the "authentic" entrée created by corporate committee, the glass of wine you didn't like much but drank anyway cuz it conferred class upon you? No? Exactly! That's this album which even Mick and the McVies probably don't remember, though I bet Dave Mason and Bekka Bramlett (who learned little from ma and pa) have fond memories. So, yeah destroy.

Now watch - some freakshow will come out of the fleetwoodwork and tell us we're missing out on the good vibrations from Behind the Mask.

Kevin John Bozelka, Wednesday, 26 March 2008 04:16 (sixteen years ago) link

you know i don't even think i've heard a single note of behind the mask or time. burnette and vito can eat my asshole tbh

electricsound, Wednesday, 26 March 2008 04:22 (sixteen years ago) link

It'd probably taste better than this album.

ba-da-dum. *cymbal crash*

Bimble, Wednesday, 26 March 2008 04:35 (sixteen years ago) link

Here's a question for people more knowledgable about the Mac than I (ie, everyone): where is the awesome "Ricky" that Lovefingers posted way back from? I can't find it on any FM album, at least not with Allmusic.

The two McVie singles from BTM are decent boilerplate ("Save Me" was actually a Top 40 hit).

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Wednesday, 26 March 2008 13:12 (sixteen years ago) link

xpost. There's this video on Youtube of the Burnette and Vito band doing "Oh Well" that's kind of hard to watch.

Yeah that's nice. Sounds even more sad & desperate than the album version. I just wish they'd let us see her face, though.

A pretty wonderful late Peter Green era concert has just popped up on Wolfgang's Vault. Early '70 in London. It sort of freaks me out how much neat stuff has surfaced on that site.
