I know that they don't identify themselves as punk, but when I listen to them, it's strikes me as striving to achieve the same effects.

sounds like college rock to me. i mean hating bush and doing a loosely themed rock opera are both pretty indy to me. Lets see them play with Iron Lung or Nine Shocks Terror. Its punk in that late 70's Sha Na Na way then.

haha nine shocks terror! YEAH FUCK THE THERMALS....let's seem them get in a fistfight with PISSED JEANS! or have a slayer cover contest with MUNICPAL WASTE! that'll show 'em!

i love this album. i was never all that fond of the thermals' sound, but i'm currently very interested in albums where the songs are all played in exactly the same way and, superficially, all sound the same, but where the album still maintains some sense of motion and album-ness. g500, e.g. TB/TB/TM does that well.

im surprised more people didnt like this. the single "pillar of salt" was excellent

They miss their old drummer on this record. That guy was a beast, and kathy taking his place in the recording was a bad move.

listening to this now after not having touched it for a year. it didn't make a huge impression on me at the time but boy do i like this at this moment. the singer actually sounds much more like the guy from the judybats than he does like j0hn d.

They had a great run

We traveled further, soared higher and played louder than we ever dreamed, and look forward to a new chapter in our lives, our art, and our friendship. We would like to thank all the great labels who have released our records and the amazing people who have worked so hard for us!

They never topped Fuckin A, and Pillar of Salt is an all-time jam

good band

Fuckin A, The Body etc, Now We Can See was a very fine run of records.

We Disappear was a strong note to end on, maybe their best since The Body, The Blood. But it was pretty clear they'd peaked.
