It's strange--if I met him on the street I'd probably hit him with a stun baton until he stop breathing. But I loved him in this film.

this film still brings the lols.
'of course we talk. don't everybody?' slow head turn by kelly, producer, and director.

Apparently her dubbed voice was actually her real voice.

hey morbs! so how are people that like this film ignorant of what makes the 'actual great' musicals great because of what this film lacks?
― moron oil (Gukbe), Tuesday, 29 December 2009 02:09 (fourteen years ago) link
I'll get back to you when I deconstruct that.
The comedy is OK, the plot is silly and the songs are warmed over. It's very good, but not a patch on V Minnelli's best.

oh, the dancing's great obv -- the component of musicals that least interests me.

You're acquainted with musicals with un-silly plots?

well it's not TRANSCENDENTLY silly! like say, Love Me Tonight.

I wouldn't call Meet Me in St. Louis a silly plot.

I'm not afraid to say if you have no interest in dancing, you are automatically less qualified to judge musicals.

Yup.
High, Wide, and HandsomeHallelujah I'm A Bum!Les chansons d'amour (2007)Cheryomushki (Cherry Town)Dancer in the DarkWest Side StoryThe Pajama Game (stfu)
And that's to leave out backstage musicals and Bollywood (which kinda sorta doesn't count). I'd include these under 'silly' but most would disagree:

damn near it
Only issues i have with it echo morbs- o'connor a little irksome at times, kelly's autosmile, and the moses song is awful.
Everything else is perfect.

@NickPinkertonThere's no more chilling study of obsessive-compulsive self-destructive behavior in cinema than Donald O'Connor's 'Make 'Em Laugh' number.
While destroying his body, he merrily relates how this sickness has been transmitted to him through generations (father, grandfather).
