I have a stack of stuff on my desk with names like Alghazanth and Those Who Bring the Torture and Impiety and Chthonian and Dagoba that I'm kind of afraid to listen to.

this thread type bands i have enjoyed lately:

sabbat are really eternal favorites, but i just bought their first proper album and getting reacquainted with what a great, sloppy, fun fucking band they are.

I don't know how to make it sound smelly, but this Christbait album by BLOOD is pretty serious. The dudes, I mean. They do one track called JOIN STOCK COMPANY

funnily enough i've had songs by BLOOD going through my head lately. mostly from their "spasmo paralytic dreams" demo, because that's the one i got by them first. the immortal line "you feel like a chicken in a cow-house - like a rebel!" always sticks with me.

listening to DEMOLITION HAMMER again right now, though. "mammoth charges with malice/tries to feast upon his death/armed with a broken rampike, impale its massive chest." fucking best, wordiest ridiculoid thrash metal lyrics ever. "lead-forged exit wound exempted me from/melancholic psychosis! cybernetic annihilation, finally set me free."

I've been really getting into Beherit's "Drawing Down the Moon" album- the way that album is mixed is so, so weird- tons of vocal processing that's really loud, breakdowns to guitars that are incredibly quiet and tinny and tiny in the mix, super weird record.

other than that i have not been troo to this thread lately, except still listening to dishammer and dug out my dr. shrinker discography cd, which is pretty fucking nice. maybe not really evil, cause they're a little nerdy seeming. being named after a sid and marty krofft show and all.

Does that Impiety album have the annoying digital brick-wall compression the previous 2 album had? Really diminished the listening pleasure, esp compared to the older stuff like Skullfucking Armageddon.

These guys are in league of their own live. Really hope they'll manage come around these parts this year.

as far as the new album goes, sadly, i've gotten so used to bad metal production that it barely registers with me anymore. all i know is that i put the album on yesterday while i was at work and it kinda singlehandedly made everything else new i've heard all year sound flabby and slow. i'm gonna listen again today at maximum volume and i'll take note of production/cd sound.

that's my problem with the brick wall stuff. i CAN'T play it at top volume because it just gets all distorted and sounds like hell. but not the good kind of hell.
