I love Music Go Music a lot, but it's not really balearic, is it ?

And the Hatchback Remix of They Came From The Stars I Saw Them's THE UNSTOPPABLE KITE totally kills...

i kinda can't stop listening to the quiet village remix of jonathan jeremiah's "happiness"... http://rcrdlbl.com/artists/Jonathan_Jeremiah/track/Happiness_Quiet_Village_Remix. those strings!

and i think i posted a link to this on another thread, but the morgan geist remix adds some juicy balearic synth-bass and is also pretty great. no strings tho, sadly

psychgawsple, Wednesday, 23 September 2009 19:27 (fourteen years ago) link

wow. feeling the jonathan jeremiah. completely reminds me of my favorite 70s singer songwriter types like cyrus faryar. and jazz singer michael murphy. he gets the 70s the way findlay brown does.

jaxon, Wednesday, 23 September 2009 20:46 (fourteen years ago) link

sorry, mark murphy

jaxon, Wednesday, 23 September 2009 21:15 (fourteen years ago) link

mark murphy is awesome :)

ooh btw, epic 3-hour Balearic Mike set up in the Mendocino hills this past weekend. should be posted within a few months, i'll be sure to let yalls know so you can witness, dude is a fantastic DJ...
i also have another set from a garden party earlier this summer but the recording levels are kinda fucked. should I still post?

mikebee (BATTAGS), Thursday, 24 September 2009 00:20 (fourteen years ago) link

Yeah Balearic Mike has been great every time I've seen him, love to hear that if you don't mind posting?

Roger Sánchez Broto (vain_bowers), Thursday, 24 September 2009 07:56 (fourteen years ago) link

two weeks pass...

he played The Do-Over in LA a few weeks ago (with Flying Lotus and DJ Craze if you can believe it) and if you google their website, you can download his set. i'll have another one for you as soon as I can host it.

mikebee (BATTAGS), Saturday, 10 October 2009 02:05 (fourteen years ago) link

Just listening to the do-over set now, good stuff, thanks. I'm sure I've heard him play that Paul Simon track before

Roger Sánchez Broto (vain_bowers), Sunday, 11 October 2009 11:04 (fourteen years ago) link

*i've* played that Paul Simon track before ;)

mikebee (BATTAGS), Monday, 12 October 2009 21:16 (fourteen years ago) link

btw, very much on a Balearic tip is the new rework of Saint Etienne's "Only Love Can Break Your Heart" by Richard X, just released on 12" with a couple others (including Air France doing "Spring") and it is an absolutely killer 105bpm balearic jam (much like the original i suppose). sold out at Piccadilly & Juno but in stock at Amoeba SF :)

Anyone got any Cyrus Faryar? I can never find anything on this guy.

noncollective.com, Tuesday, 13 October 2009 10:15 (fourteen years ago) link

i've got Islands (73) on vinyl and love it to death. i think i've dropped his name on this board way too many times. i used to have Cyrus (71) on mp3 but my harddrive crashed and it's gone :( But it means that it's out there on the internet somewhere? he also narrated some zodiac moog record, but i'm not too sure i liked it.

these new remixes of al usher's "lullaby for robert" on internasjonal are all pretty good, especially the mark seven 'island dub'. glad this track eventually got it's own release(s), it was one of my favorites on the 'computer incarnations for world peace 2' comp

psychgawsple, Thursday, 15 October 2009 07:29 (fourteen years ago) link

seconding this, Thomas's might be my favorite, but all three mixes are good, loving the Gatto Fritto too...

mixes from this year's Chillits party in Northern California are online - including an absolutely wicked 3-hour set from Balearic Mike. lots of other great sets in there, my pics are Jon Ross (eclectic lysergic weirdness), Tony Stumbaugh (afternoon lounge), Jahsh (superchilled dubstep), DF Tram (deep ambient) and Andy W (eclectic). I also have a mix up there, but it's not my best and the recording crashed midway through, so it's missing 20 minutes right in the middle. Anyway...

I suggest you to check the mixes by Jon Sa Trinxa, directly from the "Magic Isla".

^ sounds good but link isn't working for me.

anyone else liking this new 'veter pisti' edits thing? http://www.discogs.com/Veter-Pisti-Fagget-Fairys/release/2045895

balearic edits of mike oldfield, human league, and what sounds like "sueno latino" mixed with another less familiar but still awesome tune

psychgawsple, Tuesday, 22 December 2009 02:22 (fourteen years ago) link

try subscribing to the podcast and downloading it via iTunes - you don't have to get all the episodes (though i would recommend them, lots of great stuff from some of SF's best and largely unheard DJ's plus some stars like Balearic Mike). And yeah, the Veter Pisti 12 is great - I bought it just for the Human League edit...

mikebee (BATTAGS), Tuesday, 22 December 2009 19:25 (fourteen years ago) link

hello, does anyone happen to know this tune? http://www.zshare.net/audio/70599373f5bda4d8/ played by prins thomas at the 2008 versatile party. thanks.
