Focus Group Winners:

1999 - Eminem - "My Name Is"

2000 - Sisqo - "The Thong Song" and Outkast - "B.O.B"

2001 - Missy Elliot - "Get Ur Freak On" and Basement Jaxx - "Romeo"

2002 - wait and see

Since Michaelangelo had the idea I think his decision should be final on conflicted years, BTW - i.e. no Wilco ha ha.

let me go back on an earlier slip: NO 2002! NONE!

M Matos, Thursday, 6 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-one years ago) link

It'd just end up being some damn Ashanti project anyway.

Damn, that list does look good (and pretty representative of the ILM aesthetic). I heart your 1960 choice, Matos. Would that be the Matos edit? ;-)

(There's a performance of "Kontakte" here in Brussels next week actually, with video and stuff being projected at the same time. Karlheinz homself is not involved tho'. I'll probably go and will report back)

one year passes...
Some maniac put together a 6-CD set based on Giddins' list...and Robert Christgau just gave it an A+.

I just traded Matos for a copy of the Giddins Roadmap, it's great. There are some true gems in there that I've not heard like "Mosquito Knees." Totally cool. Maybe Xgau is throwing Giddins some props cuz he'll miss him at the Voice.

now we can debate what gets on for 2003; amazing.

"return to heaven" by comets on fire gets my vote. was the record released in 2002, though? I'm not sure if it was or not. So, in the event that's too soon...

"on fire" by lightning bolt, then. catchy and heavy and CATCHY!! and HEAVY!!! and dancey for all you 'dance music' fans--all music is dance music!

(do i look like a feeb?)
