deej, Wednesday, 19 March 2008 23:23 (sixteen years ago) link

is fat joe on his own indie label now though? just sayin' he might make more actual $$ than rick ross will for doing 200K

M@tt He1ges0n, Wednesday, 19 March 2008 23:29 (sixteen years ago) link

but anyway joe is really starting to wear on my nerves. i've always defended u joe.

M@tt He1ges0n, Wednesday, 19 March 2008 23:29 (sixteen years ago) link

I'm definitely hearing "Sensual Seduction" and "I Won't Tell" way, way more than "The Boss" (and I've heard "Maybach Music" a couple times). So these sales numbers kinda blow my mind. Not saying radio is the best indicator, but still.

matt2, Thursday, 20 March 2008 14:33 (sixteen years ago) link

I think Joe and Snoop have been releasing an album every 18 months for so long that one's bound to get lost in the shuffle now and then, whereas Ross is still kinda new and, as misguided as they may be, there are probably plenty of people who think of a new album from him as a big deal, must-have purchase right now. I was really hoping he'd disappear after Def Jam failed to make him the new Jeezy overnight, but after 2 years of Khaled posse cut ubiquity that's sadly what he might be now.

Joe makes dope albums sometimes (especially Loyalty and Me Myself & I) but this one's just OK for me.

Alex in Baltimore, Thursday, 20 March 2008 14:46 (sixteen years ago) link

i like the snoop song life of the party a lot.

joe going miami seems like a real sad little indicator for how much NYC has fallen off, which kinda bums me out.

M@tt He1ges0n, Thursday, 20 March 2008 15:14 (sixteen years ago) link

yeah, "Life Of Da Party" is kinda awesome. it weirds me out how Mistah F.A.B. looks older than Snoop or Too Short in the video, though, I swear that guy is secretly 55 years old or something.

the funny thing about Joe being all "switch to south paw" is that his albums still have more hard east coast beats than most other NY rappers. good FJ profile in the Voice this week with a real LOL headline: http://www.villagevoice.com/music/0812,fat-joe-vs-the-volcano,381266,22.html

Alex in Baltimore, Thursday, 20 March 2008 15:32 (sixteen years ago) link

his nickname, Joey Crack, comes not from the rock, but from an old graffiti nickname based on the unfortunate visibility afforded by his low-slung pants.

Alex in Baltimore, Thursday, 20 March 2008 15:45 (sixteen years ago) link

The Elephant in the Room is the closest thing you'll find to sure-bet profitability in hip-hop this year.

46k lol

deej, Thursday, 20 March 2008 15:54 (sixteen years ago) link

in all honesty though I wonder how much he makes per copy sold from Imperial and if it's a better rate than he'd get w/ Koch

Alex in Baltimore, Thursday, 20 March 2008 15:56 (sixteen years ago) link

i don't even remember reading about a single off of it

J0rdan S., Thursday, 20 March 2008 15:59 (sixteen years ago) link

"I Won't Tell" (feat. J. Holiday) is currently at #37 on Hot 100, #12 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, and #5 on Hot Rap Tracks

Alex in Baltimore, Thursday, 20 March 2008 16:07 (sixteen years ago) link

but it didn't get any burn on Discobelle, though, so I can see how you might have missed it.

Alex in Baltimore, Thursday, 20 March 2008 16:08 (sixteen years ago) link

i won't tell ain't exactly lean back or make it rain

matt2, Friday, 21 March 2008 13:32 (sixteen years ago) link

yeah, I just heard "Skew It On The Bar-B" in the club the other night and was reminiscing over it, so it blew my mind when I heard that new song on the radio the other day. funny that Big Boi finally dropped a single after promising there'd be one on New Year's Eve.

Alex in Baltimore, Friday, 21 March 2008 13:38 (sixteen years ago) link

Love the Isley's just popping up. It's no "Skew It On the Bar-B" harmonica break, but it's nice all the same.

matt2, Friday, 21 March 2008 13:53 (sixteen years ago) link

It's "Rosa Parks" with the harmonica break, to be pedantic.

The Reverend, Friday, 21 March 2008 15:46 (sixteen years ago) link

wow

Jordan, Friday, 21 March 2008 16:02 (sixteen years ago) link

Oops! Good call.

matt2, Friday, 21 March 2008 16:15 (sixteen years ago) link

Both Outkast members kill this, Raekwon is kind of meh. I like how they bring back the "BREAK!"

The Reverend, Friday, 21 March 2008 16:33 (sixteen years ago) link

Sometimes I think Big Boi has never dropped a bad verse in his entire life.
