How can teenagers effectively boycott a sequel to a game that they got their parents to but in the first place?

the visible spectrum is rainbows (snoball), Thursday, 10 September 2009 18:39 (fourteen years ago) link

I predict that, conservatively, at least 80, 85% of these clownshoes buy the game within two months of it coming out.

More Butty In Your Pants (Telephone thing), Thursday, 10 September 2009 18:42 (fourteen years ago) link

And then within a week they'll start another thread complaining about the lack of DLC for it...

(can't believe i care enough to even ask but) did l4d on pc get no dlc at all? iirc there was only one big update on xbox, didn't that go out to the "steam community" too? wtf are these crabby little bitchboys even complaining about

i just want to believe that this is based on a tiny kernel of a real problem...

goole, I think the kernel of real problem is that valve have been regularly releasing quality updates for TF2 for what, two years now? So when L4D arrived, and was actually a fairly slight, full price release, a lot of people reasonably but wrongly assumed that it was basically just a starter pack and that there'd be a lot more content coming later. And now they're all boo hoo.

I don't know, I might be pissed off it I paid $60 at launch for it, frankly - the matchmaking especially sounds kind of messed up. But I still haven't bought the game, so what do I know? I'm kinda hoping there will be some kind of nice package deal when the sequel comes out.

Nhex, Friday, 11 September 2009 00:13 (fourteen years ago) link

bought it twice, will be buying l4d twice. who's the real fool here?

re: boycott: if you can't afford to spend $60 on a fairly trivial thing like a videogame like l4d you, er, probably shouldn't

n.b. i probably couldn't, so that's why i bought it for £13.49 off steam

it's not slight, anyway. it's svelte.

The problem is that too many companies base their numbers based on "successful" numbers of sales on the wii. Madworld didn't sell well at all on the wii, but it did sell. Now why does everyone call it somewhat of a failure, then (in gaming newsgroups and such)? BECAUSE, it's comparing it to previous "successful" wii games like wii fit. Now the real question is, why did wii fit sell so well, a game that essentially isn't a game at all, and quality games like madworld and muramasa are getting glossed over? BECAUSE, the wii's main audience (even if you are not) is about 75-85% casual gamers who really have no interest in gaming but instead want a babysitter for their children/people they're trying so desperately to entertain.

I'd argue that even if every hardcore gamer who owned a wii bought this game, it would still be considered a flop because it would only account for 15% of the user base of the wii, hence how stupid f'in casual gamers screw everything up for everyone else.

I mean, how would you feel if you were a developer, you make a quality game thats pretty awesome, and then Hannah Montana's next game kicks the shit out of yours as far as sales go? I'D personally feel that, since the audience on the wii is mostly a bunch of retards that have never played more than a handful of games in their lives and just buy what's familiar to them (ie, movie based/tv-show based shloch), there is barely any room for a creative game to actually BE successful, no matter how many of the hardcore step-up and buy a copy.

I'm personally looking forward to the wii release schedul of '09 but I still have to admit to myself that it's annoying and slightly depressing to know that good games made for the wii just aren't going to be considered successful because 85% of the people who bought the system are morons who wouldn't know a good game if it was growing out of their ass and instead, just bought the damn wii so they could have wii sports for their drunk friends to play at their social gatherings.
