i didnt know there was a new girl on snl so every time i saw this young hot chick in the sketches i assumed it was carrie underwood and i was like damn shes better than amy poehler

hilarious to suggest that women need to vote for hrc because bitches need to stick together, and pretty funny too to imply that the mainstream media gives obama a free ride at her expense
it was funny.

yeah it's not like it was convincing but it helps to keep perspective re: the election.

SNL is running weirdly hot and cold this year (or at least since the strike). Last week was largely awful, but this week most of the sketches are genuinely funny. Amy Adams is probably helping a little, but I've finally decided Amy Pohler is a genius.
― Johnny Fever, Sunday, 9 March 2008 06:00 (sixteen years ago) link
i kinda go back n forth on poehler being a genius or the most unpleasant person ive ever seen in my life. i only caught the last 20 minutes tonight & nothing was funny but that new girl is bangin
― and what, Sunday, 9 March 2008 06:01 (sixteen years ago) link
yeah so far I like the new girl, she really made that stupid dancing sketch work.
really liking Bill Hader lately.

last two mostly sucked except for digital short and the School of Excellence, but tonight was much better. I do get sick of recurring characters, like Penelope, and that was a mostly weak Tim Calhoun...the best Tim Calhoun skits may be my favorite things ever.
― dan selzer, Sunday, 9 March 2008 06:25 (sixteen years ago) link
still annoys me that 'digital short' is now a thing that people talk about like it's a big deal buzzword. it's a pre-taped sketch, BFD.
yeah we definitely don't need anymore Penelope sketches, though. shit is getting as repetitive as the Will Ferrell cheerleader shit at this point.

People don't do this anymore. Dick In A Box was like 1.5 years ago.

It's really too bad Amy Adams isn't a regular cast member, because I could see myself laughing through at least 10 more of those "Mirror Image" sketches.

she's pretty funny.

yah but you have to admit keyboard player's scarf was total ball licker style, they had no energy, and the singer was contrived and has a terrible voice as well as the worst guitar tone ive ever heard.
― chaki, Sunday, 9 March 2008 09:29 (sixteen years ago) link
the guitar tone was laid on kind of thick i'll give you that.

yeah, I was like, "another broadway monologue?". And then the first skit was a game show, which I almost always hate, though Jonah made this one actually pretty funny.

SNL did what SNL has long done -- feature whoever's hot that week. That's the show's function. Satire has nothing to do with it. Everybody feeds on the fix. That's where money and power reside. Dem partisan Alec Baldwin willingly traded japes with Palin, bringing her into the fold. Little wonder she felt free to groove to Amy Poehler's rap about her stated positions. SNL added to Palin's luster. Who wouldn't dance along to that?

the palin rap was pretty funny since it mocked almost everything she's associated with bar downs syndrome; she looked clueless sitting there through the whole thing. amy poehler, meanwhile, was pretty impressive (through the whole episode, actually, since she's clearly like, at term)
― akm, Monday, 20 October 2008 14:58 (fifteen years ago) link
i'm surprised people like the rap, i thought it was pretty embarrassing. and i'm usually kind of a captain save-an-snl. i love poehler and she did her best with it but reviving the rodney dangerfield joke rap song in 2008 is pretty lame
― metametadata (n/a), Monday, 20 October 2008 15:01 (fifteen years ago) link
that excerpt seems to presuppose that a) SNL should seek to materially detract from Palin, presumably because she's Palin and snl/perrin don't agree with her and b) proper satire should always negatively affect the "luster" of the person being satirized, neither of which seem to be the self-evident points the tone of the article suggests.
