Spencer OTM.

"Look Up" is incredible, like a sweet worm wriggling under your skin!

David A. (Davant), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 02:30 (nineteen years ago) link

'Look Up' is absolutely gorgeous; I'd add 'Death To Death', 'Sleep Tonight', 'Don't be Afraid To Sing', and 'Tonight' to that list.

The Comeback EP is really lame, despite the awesome clear CD.

derrick (derrick), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 02:58 (nineteen years ago) link

my stars CD80 in chronological order, please rearrange as you like:

counting stars on the ceiling
my radio
going, going, gone
on peak hill
the very thing
better be heaven
tonight
what the snowman learned about love
elevator love letter
heart
time can never kill the true heart
look up
don't be afraid to sing
ageless beauty
reunion
the big fight
what i'm trying to say
sleep tonight
soft revolution

...anyone who listens to that and doesn't fall completely in love with this band... god help you.

cutty (mcutt), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 05:42 (nineteen years ago) link

I'd swap 'Reunion' for 'Your Ex-Lover Is Dead' and 'On Peak Hill' for 'Death To Death', but otherwise that's an excellent list.

derrick (derrick), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 18:36 (nineteen years ago) link

ehh.. death to death was never one of my favorites. the chorus is annoying. but i don't dislike the song.

cutty (mcutt), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 18:37 (nineteen years ago) link

I just like it for the massive 3 min. outro and the bassline.

derrick (derrick), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 21:16 (nineteen years ago) link

I am gonna listen to all 3 albums tonight and cohere some real thoughts on SYOF for tomorrow. But so help me, I am in love with this band.

Captain GRRRios' Giggletits (Barima), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 21:46 (nineteen years ago) link

"the big fight" is all about the 3 minute outro and the bassline.

cutty (mcutt), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 22:36 (nineteen years ago) link

"set yourself on fire" is outro heaven.

in retrospect, I would like to change my response to Tomaggrobot to:

bnw (bnw), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 22:57 (nineteen years ago) link

good mix cutty. Mine will be very similar, although I will also be adding "Death to Death" - it's almost like a Technique-era New Order tribute!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 23:04 (nineteen years ago) link

Mine will also include "Romantic Comedy"!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Monday, 10 January 2005 23:01 (nineteen years ago) link

NEWSFLASH: I love this album. 3rd time's the fragging charm.

Captain GRRRios' Giggletits (Barima), Tuesday, 11 January 2005 00:58 (nineteen years ago) link

ok i also want to switch "reunion" with "set yourself on fire" as derrick suggested.

cutty (mcutt), Tuesday, 11 January 2005 01:01 (nineteen years ago) link

yes, this is a very nice album. personal favourites: "you ex-lover is dead," "ageless beauty" and the fourth track (whatever it is called).

this will be a great "summer record," although it is helping elevate my mood amongst the torrential downpour which is now Vancouver.

is the keyboardist the female vocalist? becuz she seems hot. i love her voice much.

it is indeed very postal service-y. i think i like the postal service cd a bit better. but syof could grow on me. it already is.

my friends who like poppy, accessible stuff are gonna love this.

i hope this record get its due. but i hope it doesn't become too huge. ;)

Star Cauliflower (Star Cauliflower), Wednesday, 19 January 2005 02:22 (nineteen years ago) link

no, phil-two is a gay, the keyboardist is a guy.

amy millan plays guitar and sings.

cutty (mcutt), Wednesday, 19 January 2005 02:27 (nineteen years ago) link

ok then, amy's the one i will marry.

Star Cauliflower (Star Cauliflower), Wednesday, 19 January 2005 02:34 (nineteen years ago) link

not if you keep comparing them to the postal service.

cutty (mcutt), Wednesday, 19 January 2005 02:38 (nineteen years ago) link

you don't see any similarities? your just jealous that she loves me.

Star Cauliflower (Star Cauliflower), Wednesday, 19 January 2005 02:40 (nineteen years ago) link

is "cutty" a boy name, or a girl name?

Star Cauliflower (Star Cauliflower), Wednesday, 19 January 2005 02:41 (nineteen years ago) link

ASK THIS GUY:

cutty (mcutt), Wednesday, 19 January 2005 02:44 (nineteen years ago) link

The verses of "What I'm Trying to Say" sound a lot like Postal Service, and I'd put them in the same general genre, but there's a world of difference for me. I love Postal Service too, but for somewhat different reasons.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 19 January 2005 02:45 (nineteen years ago) link

electronic emo versus romantic nostalgia rock

cutty (mcutt), Wednesday, 19 January 2005 02:47 (nineteen years ago) link

ok

Star Cauliflower (Star Cauliflower), Wednesday, 19 January 2005 03:10 (nineteen years ago) link

Finally got this (it took two weeks to get it delivered!) but it was worth it. My #1 album for 2005 and it's going to take an album of monstrous awesomeness to knock this one off. It is great!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 10 February 2005 01:27 (nineteen years ago) link

Anyone planning to go to the Burlington VT show (March 6th) and know how soon one can order tickets?

i am nervous (cochere), Thursday, 10 February 2005 01:44 (nineteen years ago) link

I wonder if Stars're gonna make the P&J next year since it's now officially released in the US. I was one of only four people to vote for it, dammit. It's worth noting that three of the four of us who voted for it at all put it right at #1!

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Thursday, 10 February 2005 01:59 (nineteen years ago) link

I won't hold my breath, I'm sure it will be something much more "meaningful"...

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 10 February 2005 02:01 (nineteen years ago) link

Fuck 21+ shows. Seriously.

xxpost to myself

i am nervous (cochere), Thursday, 10 February 2005 02:02 (nineteen years ago) link

noooo! Spencer, you missed 'Don't Be Afraid To Sing'!

derrick (derrick), Thursday, 10 February 2005 09:28 (nineteen years ago) link

It's not one of my favorites! (although it's lovely by any measure)

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 10 February 2005 18:00 (nineteen years ago) link

STARS - Set Myself on Fire for Ticket (s) - $90

I'm so sad I don't have tickets...

Tickets were Going, Going, Gone.
This Charming Man now only has My Radio left to listen to.
What I'm Trying To Say,
All I want, is to see these International Rock (Dead Child) Stars and their Romantic Comedy.
So anyone with a Heart,
I don't want to be Counting Stars On The Ceiling.
Pleaaasee...1 or 2 tickets are The Very Thing I want.

2 for $90? 1 for $45?

FYI for other ticketless people - Stars are playing again in NY April 27th at Bowery.

it's NOT ok to contact this poster with services or other commercial interests
