haha wow

I'm currently listening to a chopped and screwed boot of this which is funny cos the dude has just pitched down the riff that was pitched up in the first place

holy shit!

that song is not very good, tho.

Going back a few days, meanwhile, I was very taken w/ the Saviours album on first play, much more than expected. Also had the new Black Cobra on (OK but can't help thinking they're ultimately Big Business w/ most of the things I like about Big Business removed) and new A Storm Of Light (same deal but with Neurosis, and with Lydia Lunch fulfilling the Jarboe role)

Don't listen to pfunk. Alestorm are awesome. Swashbuckle are fun, but they don't really combine the pirating and the thrash as well as you would hope -- basically, there is a pirate sounding song, and then there's a thrash song, and then repeat.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 17 September 2009 21:35 (fourteen years ago) link

I like Swashbuckle better than Alestorm because Alestorm has that awful synth-accordion sound. Just hire a fucking accordionist for the recording sessions, guys. It doesn't matter if you have to resort to shitty keyboards live, cause I'll never go see you play anyway.

neither good nor bad, just a kid like you (unperson), Thursday, 17 September 2009 21:54 (fourteen years ago) link

Alestorm are so much fun live! I highly, highly recommend getting out to see them. I had never heard them before seeing them, but three songs into their set I walked over to the merch booth and bought a CD.

Defender Of The Girly Metal Faith (J3ff T.), Thursday, 17 September 2009 23:27 (fourteen years ago) link

Swashbuckle's okay, but I prefer Alestorm. They're goofy. Fun to interview, too.

A. Begrand, Thursday, 17 September 2009 23:29 (fourteen years ago) link

Yipes, this Megadeth album really is good. I half thought some people had agreed to pretend to like it as some sort of elaborate group prank. But no. It's good.

Alestorm, on the other hand, suck piss.

Pirate Metal vs Crabcore. Discuss.

Nate Carson, Friday, 18 September 2009 01:46 (fourteen years ago) link

Pirate metal has pirates. Crabcore has crabs. Doesn't seem like much of a competition.

Defender Of The Girly Metal Faith (J3ff T.), Friday, 18 September 2009 02:04 (fourteen years ago) link

Pirates have crabs!

Nate Carson, Friday, 18 September 2009 02:06 (fourteen years ago) link

I think lice was more of a problem for them.

Defender Of The Girly Metal Faith (J3ff T.), Friday, 18 September 2009 02:13 (fourteen years ago) link

pirate metal bands dont have any talent though

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Friday, 18 September 2009 02:18 (fourteen years ago) link

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Friday, 18 September 2009 02:26 (fourteen years ago) link

Pirate's crabs have lice.

Nate Carson, Friday, 18 September 2009 02:49 (fourteen years ago) link

Which is better, a crab pirate or a pirate crab?

Musicfest NW this weekend in Portland. OM as a trio was the best I've ever seen them live. Saviours were ok. Despise You (LA grind band featuring Chris Dodge of Spazz/former Slap-a-Ham records guy) was 30 songs in 23 minutes and totally killer. I had to miss Red Fang to see OM but I assume they slew about 300 people.

Nate Carson, Sunday, 20 September 2009 09:22 (fourteen years ago) link

OM as a trio? more details?

GOVERNMENT TRASH QUEEN ON A THRONE (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Sunday, 20 September 2009 10:14 (fourteen years ago) link

Alestorm has that awful synth-accordion sound

Not to mention the keytar with steeldrum preset they use on stage o_O Also, jumping around in a sharksuit really hammers it home, Fonzstyle. Saw both bands at Paganfest this week, and was only slightly amused. I kinda like how Alestorm's singer looks more Glastonbury than Wacken, though.

Judging by the new album Wormwood, Mortuus now has total creative control over Marduk. It's nothing short of Maranatha pt. 2, really. Which off course is a good thing.

Thijs, Sunday, 20 September 2009 14:03 (fourteen years ago) link

OM as a trio? more details?

Rob from Lichens is playing seated guitar and samples/fx. Added a whole other dimension and made me appreciate the business of the new drummer a lot more. Al agreed with me that it was their best show yet.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Sunday, 20 September 2009 23:34 (fourteen years ago) link

It's pretty good, but I still prefer their live stuff from when Mason Jones was still in the band - I'll take These Things Take Time and Almost Invisible over anything else they've done.

For some reason I'm still entertained by the Wiki hack edits for metal bands, this is what Coverge's page read as of 10:30 Sunday night:

Converge is a terrible band from Salem, Massachusetts. Playing a blend of bad music[1][2] and worse music since 1990,[3][4][5] Converge has helped to define many of the very bad sounds of another horrible genre.[6][7][8]

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Monday, 21 September 2009 12:53 (fourteen years ago) link

wow, Midlothian is a very metal name for a town.

scott seward, Monday, 21 September 2009 13:20 (fourteen years ago) link

Shit, Midlothian is literally about 20 minutes away from where I work. Dated a girl from Midlothian for a short time, but that was like 7 years ago. I'll certainly keep my eyes peeled.

Of course he could be anywhere in the chicago area and not just the town he's from.

so, what's cool on deathwish inc? I'm gonna pre-order the new converge and might pick up some other stuff.

any of this stuff on sale worth a go?
http://www.deathwishinc.com/estore/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=D&Category_Code=SALE

don't really know too many of these bands. and I'm only gonna buy stuff on vinyl, I'm thinking.

original bgm, Monday, 21 September 2009 14:15 (fourteen years ago) link

i ordered the converge but think perhaps all the coloured vinyl sold out as it didnt give me a choice of colour. and the other estore selling it had no vinyl left at all. I guess most of them will end up on ebay too

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Monday, 21 September 2009 14:21 (fourteen years ago) link

no biggie for me. I don't really care about colored vinyl.

original bgm, Monday, 21 September 2009 14:24 (fourteen years ago) link

just order the jane doe double vinyl and then you're done! hahahaha!
