And by the other thread I mean the metal poll results, thought I'd add some more stuff. The Anna Meredith album's called Varmints as well, just noticed I missed that

This is kind of the best year for music in living memory and I could compile a list with about fifty albums in it, but you can all make do with ultros' list for now

you cant make a statement like that and not back it up

Cosmic Slop, Thursday, 22 September 2016 18:23 (seven years ago) link

xp Ta. I was also going to have metal in it's own list instead of Metal/rock so there's a fuckup there too. I'm too exhausted to be doing this kind of thing it seems.

Rolling Favorite Tracks + Albums 2016

brimstead, Thursday, 22 September 2016 19:07 (seven years ago) link

still enjoying several I waxed about on Rolling Indie Pop/Rock 2016: The Julie Ruin, Nosebleeds, Deerhoof, Seratones, also digging most of latest by Horselords (who have their own thread of course). Currently wrapping my brain (in progress) around Blood Orange's Freetown Sound.

inhalants - deep florida
mgun - gentium
delroy edwards - hangin' at the beach

brimstead, Thursday, 22 September 2016 19:26 (seven years ago) link

Cosmic Slop: the 2nd list covers the rock stuff - prog, really.

Couple of others I forgot to mention - I like the newest proper Deerhoof album fine but the album they've done with the Ensemble dal Niente is a lot better imo. The new Battle Trance is pretty great too.

I liked the Horselords album that ppl were raving about earlier this year.

"Nosebleeds"! Ah meant Nosebleed Weekend, by the Coathangers.

one of my favorite albums of the year (which drops tomorrow, the 23rd) is a collection of downtempo pop-house tracks called recto verso by a french duo called paradis. they're quite reminiscent of junior boys, it's sung entirely in french, and i think the album's very good.

Any of those you think I will like?

Cosmic Slop, Friday, 23 September 2016 20:50 (seven years ago) link

I got the Neurosis LP today and its really good. Much better than the last one which was fairly good but didn't really stay in airplay.
This one did not feel like they were retreading old ground.

The africans with mainframes has a trancey krauty gottsching thing going on that I think youd appreciate, CS
