I am staying in because I have an exam tomorrow in microeconomics. I may go out tomorrow night since the next and final exam is not until Tuesday.

I think this will be the first Friday I haven't been out in about 3 months or more. : ( Also despite reading that thread about ten times I think I'm going to fail Microeconomics.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 17 January 2003 15:26 (twenty-three years ago)

i am staying in cos... that's what i do. hurrah!

g-kit (g-kit), Friday, 17 January 2003 15:29 (twenty-three years ago)

Probably sitting at home playing FIFA 2003. I lost the damn Norwegian Cup game last night and I so wanted to not save my progress.

Chris V. (Chris V), Friday, 17 January 2003 15:30 (twenty-three years ago)

My plans are eerily similar, Ronan! ;-) Study today, exam tomorrow, prob go out for a few drinks on Saturday night, working in the shop on Sunday morning, then studying for most of the rest of Sunday.

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Friday, 17 January 2003 15:30 (twenty-three years ago)

ooooh! i was wrong, i forgot! excitement! i am seeing LOTR II with my girlfriend. hurrah again!

g-kit (g-kit), Friday, 17 January 2003 15:33 (twenty-three years ago)

How are you prepared Kilian? I am muddling along but the whole not going to the lecture thing isn't helping much.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 17 January 2003 15:34 (twenty-three years ago)

At some point I will be drinking.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 17 January 2003 15:36 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm going to Wood Green to see LOTR again with a friend, and then I am going to the FAP. On Sunday, I might go see another film.

jel -- (jel), Friday, 17 January 2003 15:36 (twenty-three years ago)

According to my checkbook I can't afford to do anything that involves spending money. Perhaps I'll stay at home and drink.

j.lu (j.lu), Friday, 17 January 2003 15:36 (twenty-three years ago)

You have planned wisely already Dan. I forgot about the FAP, I presume alot of you are going there.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 17 January 2003 15:37 (twenty-three years ago)

I stayed in as a) I normally do anyway, b) I saw Chicks on Speed last night, blah. I'm listening to "Second Edition" at 4.38 am instead of leaving the house.

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Friday, 17 January 2003 15:37 (twenty-three years ago)

I will be mostly rehearsing and rewriting frantically for my radio show on Tuesday. Also I will be going to the FAP meet-up tomorrow after all. Plus I have to do 7-8 reviews for Uncut. A busy weekend looms.

Marcello Carlin, Friday, 17 January 2003 15:40 (twenty-three years ago)

Off to see Divine Intervention at the Renoir tonight then home to Scotland for the weekend. Yay.

Jane, Friday, 17 January 2003 15:41 (twenty-three years ago)

some friends are going to a gay dance night and asked me to come along. I said yes, but that doesn't neccesarily mean I actually GO!
That depends on my mood of the moment. I have heavy mood swings.
I also normally avoid gay clublife like hell.

erik, Friday, 17 January 2003 15:43 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm going to stay in bed all weekend, i think. I'm sleepy.

I might go to a pub quiz on Sunday, but that's about all.

caitlin (caitlin), Friday, 17 January 2003 15:44 (twenty-three years ago)

Dance in a gay lugubrious way

kayT (kaytee), Friday, 17 January 2003 15:46 (twenty-three years ago)

meh. i've done a little bit of micro the past few weeks. finding it hard to concentrate today, hence ILX posting. I'm going to get up very early tomorrow, and do a few hours cramming in college before the exam. I hope I can squeak 40%, but it's touch and go...

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Friday, 17 January 2003 15:47 (twenty-three years ago)

Finish my book, I guess. Really I've got nothing to do so maybe I'll make plans. Monday I'm going ice skating.

Maria (Maria), Friday, 17 January 2003 15:47 (twenty-three years ago)

I forgot that I have oodles and oodles of rehearsal on Sunday. FUCK. I guess I'm drinking tonight.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 17 January 2003 15:48 (twenty-three years ago)

writing, tidying and recording ut for julio

mark s (mark s), Friday, 17 January 2003 15:49 (twenty-three years ago)

and FAP, so as to give julio the recording

mark s (mark s), Friday, 17 January 2003 15:52 (twenty-three years ago)

I am going to the ballet at Sadlers Wells tomorrow cos I am fancy. Also must catch up on Hollyoaks & Eastenders omnibuses (omnibi?). I am embracing high and low culture this weekend.

Emma, Friday, 17 January 2003 15:53 (twenty-three years ago)

today is my last day at work so i will go out for drinks and then go home and watch telly with some more drinks. tomorrow i may bet on some horses before watching liverpool attempt to end this dismal run at southampton where slower-than-my-grandad diouf on the wing will be our latest attempt to GET SOME WIDTH. sunday i will be at a loss, maybe do some washing, the pub is a possibility. monday morning (i'm stretching def. of weekend) i will be harrassing the agency for MORE WORK PLEASE!

michael wells (michael w.), Friday, 17 January 2003 15:54 (twenty-three years ago)

ooh i forgot its a long weekend!!!! yay, I'm definately getting pickled this weekend. Maybe for three days straight!!! my wife will love me!

Chris V. (Chris V), Friday, 17 January 2003 16:04 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh yeah I made an appointment to go watch the match in the pub tomorrow, it's not even possible to say "tough match" or "i think we should win" at this stage, just total freefall and anything is possible.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 17 January 2003 16:05 (twenty-three years ago)

I might drink tonight. But tomorrow I help two good friends who have got themselves a nice little garden which needs weeding etc., tomorrow night I might see Chris Piuma and Jake bring the rock if all goes well, and Sunday I help friends move and then definitely meet up with Chris and Jake for dinner. Or something. No long weekend for me -- I officially have Monday off, but I'm working anyway to clear some of this lingering backlog crap and to build up a little extra vacation time later.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 17 January 2003 16:08 (twenty-three years ago)

ronan, that is *exactly* how i feel abt the match at the moment. real madrid or stockport county, it wouldn't matter. a weird feeling.

michael wells (michael w.), Friday, 17 January 2003 16:09 (twenty-three years ago)

Tonight: The Chalets! Rollers/Sparkers! For six euro! Followed by the Artists formerly known as Thomas the Skank Engine in Greys! Then sleeping! Brilliant!

Tomorrow: Helter Shelter!

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 17 January 2003 16:17 (twenty-three years ago)

I am going where the MiniDisc is a viable format. Hooray!

felicity (felicity), Friday, 17 January 2003 16:24 (twenty-three years ago)

I'd love to go to the Roller Sparkers/Chalets gig put some dickweed friend thinks he can force me to go round to his place to eat food and give him presents just 'cos its his cockfarming birthday. Make sure to go early and get your free CD.

On the plus side I amy go to see COunt Thunder in LAzybird on Sunday. I gather he's straight out of "Songs In The Key of Z". Wanna come along?

tigerclawskank, Friday, 17 January 2003 16:29 (twenty-three years ago)

Aw, Andrew. Your weekend is exactly as mine would be if I hadn't planned on being in Glasgow.

Wonder if we'll turn up on the 'ILE-ers you think are the same person' thread?

Lara (Lara), Friday, 17 January 2003 16:35 (twenty-three years ago)

you were going to but you've ruined the surprise now

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 17 January 2003 16:35 (twenty-three years ago)

Tonight I'm going to my friend Suzy's leaving do, tomorrow evening out with you lot.

Anna (Anna), Friday, 17 January 2003 16:36 (twenty-three years ago)

I just clicked print thinking I had one page highlighted and printed up 70 pages by mistake, they just kept coming, there was someone waiting for the printer and it was so embarassing, also I reckon I somehow now have a massive printer account overdraft.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 17 January 2003 16:41 (twenty-three years ago)

couldn't you press STOP or CANCEL part way through the print run?

michael wells (michael w.), Friday, 17 January 2003 16:44 (twenty-three years ago)

Well I didn't think it would be too many, also I presumed it would stop when I ran out of printer credit but then when it didn't I thought I might as well leave it. They are useful notes but it was a bit wasteful.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 17 January 2003 16:45 (twenty-three years ago)

Dance in a gay lugubrious way

Can I have this dance with you?

erik, Friday, 17 January 2003 16:46 (twenty-three years ago)

Unfortunately studying (trying to) for an exam I have on Monday.

Shaz (Shaz), Friday, 17 January 2003 16:50 (twenty-three years ago)

Erm, well, last night (if Thursday counts as "the weekend") I saw Damo Suzuki at the Knitting Factory. Sunday I am meeting up with some NYCilxors to see Luomo. In the interim there will be some eating and drinking involved. Right now I am trying to get rid of a sinus headache that's been bugging me for three days.

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Friday, 17 January 2003 16:55 (twenty-three years ago)

Still a bit of a bastard to do all weekend, Ronan.

Lara: I'd advise not to do anything that I wouldn't do, then, but that'd really cramp your style.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 17 January 2003 17:46 (twenty-three years ago)

once again i failed to spot a thread and started a similar one soon after

i want to go out but i dunno what to do. this really is the worst area of 'greater london' to live in cos if you want to stay out late you're fucked for getting home (the night bus route is the most long-winded of them all i reckon)

stevem (blueski), Friday, 17 January 2003 18:07 (twenty-three years ago)

JOdy, have you seen this thread?

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 17 January 2003 18:11 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes yes. I should point out that last night Damo Suzuki HUGGED ME = I was within mere INCHES of his wang.

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Friday, 17 January 2003 18:16 (twenty-three years ago)

friday evening: watching robert wyatt doc on bbc four. taping beefheart for sinker.

sat: come in to do work. go to FAP in the evening.

sun: not sure.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Friday, 17 January 2003 18:19 (twenty-three years ago)

Someone's asked me to go see the Lilys tonight, which seems fair enough. Then tomorrow

write reviews
write reviews
write reviews
write reviews

and finish ridiculous cover of "What am I Supposed to Do" plus buy new books to read next week and then hopefully avoid being conscripted for evening-out because I don't think I have the energy to be interesting unless it involves

773techno presents
(seismic detroit recording artist showcase)
THE PUNISHER
COZMIC SPORE
AUTOMAN

Sunday sleep in, clean, quick trip to grocery store, standard Sunday-night sitting around playing video games and calling winner a whore.

nabisco (nabisco), Friday, 17 January 2003 18:35 (twenty-three years ago)

The lilys? Are they that 60s-ish sounding band that had a song in a Levis ad years ago?

I also have an exam tomorrow, and so staying in to study, which is particularly unfair because all my friends have finished theirs and are off down to the pub, for the first drink of the term.

jellybean (jellybean), Friday, 17 January 2003 18:41 (twenty-three years ago)

Other than the FAP tomorrow, not a lot. Trying to shake off inertia, probably unsuccessfully.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 17 January 2003 19:30 (twenty-three years ago)

I have to work tomorrow. I would like to go see the group Puerto Rican Power tomorrow night, but I have no one to go with. My partner is out of town. I am hoping I will run into someone in the next 24 hours that I can ask out.

I could go by myself, but it's not the kind of event where that will be very comfortable. I will be craning my neck around all night trying to find an unattached woman to dance with, and being a gringo will be a strike against me. However, once I am seen dancing, my chances will improve. (This is not to say I am great, but I am not embarrassing.) Maybe I will run into someone I know, but that didn't happen last time I went to a similar show.

(I feel ugly in this shirt.)

Rockist Scientist, Friday, 17 January 2003 19:37 (twenty-three years ago)

I am playing with my sampler. Now I have a splitter, I am able to sample guitar *and* drum machine, then play around over the top with both. Hours of entertainment! Especially if you change the speed of the drum machine and put mentalist doubletime breaks over the top. I'm working on a Junglist version of a Travis song. No, REALLY, I am. It's strangely brilliant, if I may say so myself.

kate, Friday, 17 January 2003 20:18 (twenty-three years ago)

It can hardly fail to be an improvement.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 17 January 2003 20:24 (twenty-three years ago)

Most of my weekend will consist of preparing for:

COLD TURKEY!!- No Alcohol Beverages for A Month!!

Accented by:
Friday nite-watching Krull
Saturday-working at the Library
Saturday Nite- Live music
Sunday-Sleep
Sunday Nite-Live music

brg30 (brg30), Friday, 17 January 2003 20:34 (twenty-three years ago)

Kicking off a month of no booze by watching Krull seems counter-productive.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 17 January 2003 20:36 (twenty-three years ago)

SHUT UP AND BRING ME A COLT 45!!!!

brg30 (brg30), Friday, 17 January 2003 20:50 (twenty-three years ago)

Going to the UW law library to do homework. Taking my car in for servicing. Sleeping in as much as possible.

mike a (mike a), Friday, 17 January 2003 22:08 (twenty-three years ago)

fri nite: entertain girlf, poss climb/listen to the GOLDEN escalator over the hill 3LP wot i found today (marcello you owe me £11 if it is rub)

sun: "work", get krunk

zemko (bob), Friday, 17 January 2003 22:18 (twenty-three years ago)

Jody, as far as I'm concerned Wednesday counts as the weekend.

probably going out to drink a few cheap beers tonight (as I am very poor), marching in the MLK parade (an anti-war thing) either tomorrow or Monday (we are confused on the date).

the rest of the weekend I'll just be finishing up the averaging of grades and deciding how merciful I shall be with the little . . .well, I'll leave the end of that sentence up to your imagination.

That Girl (thatgirl), Friday, 17 January 2003 22:33 (twenty-three years ago)

Ooh, Zemko, I hope you'll be there. We've not met, right?

(That first bit sounds somewhat camp for such a masculine person as me!)

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 17 January 2003 22:59 (twenty-three years ago)

you sound like you're on tender hooks, martin. tell me you're not, please.

RJG (RJG), Friday, 17 January 2003 23:05 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes, it's a bit tender where the hooks are...

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 17 January 2003 23:07 (twenty-three years ago)

My only immediate plans are to eat the pizza that we just ordered, and then just stay in because it's too bloody cold outside to do anything else!

Kim (Kim), Friday, 17 January 2003 23:15 (twenty-three years ago)

going to my friend's party in Reading tomorrow. He's celebrating finishing his PhD experimental phase and moving on to write up.

MarkH (MarkH), Friday, 17 January 2003 23:31 (twenty-three years ago)

Saw Chicks on Speed on Thursday, stayed in Friday and am going to see the Snares tonight with Andrew which he seems to have forgotten!

Elisabeth (Elisabeth), Saturday, 18 January 2003 00:15 (twenty-three years ago)

At this moment, listening to Real Radio - 'And Now Another Hit... from 1984! When Top Secret was in the cinema.' It's 'I just called to say I love you' and before every chorus the horrible DJ whispers 'All together now!' in a 'sensuous' voice. I'm hanging on for some good 1984-era stuff, if it exists.

have already seen Richard Herring's one-man show about cocks, which by now is hilarious (it's been building material from the internet like a snowball with each successive performance). Will spend the rest of the time working hard on comics until I watch Thor, Fantastic Four and live-action Nick Hammond Spiderman in a Sunday afternoon non-ironic-old-TV-watch-a-thon. Ah, la dolce vita!

Al_Ewing, Saturday, 18 January 2003 00:56 (twenty-three years ago)

''perhaps grace FAP (obv everyone is on the tenderest of hooks re this)''

not really. in the email i sent i wuz just wondering.

mark p (Mark P), Saturday, 18 January 2003 17:20 (twenty-three years ago)

I wanted to got to C'est What on Friday for a band, but at -30 with wind chill or whatever it was it was too damm cold. Today is house work, picking up my jacket's shell from the cleaners and flat out relaxing. Sunday will be more of the same.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Saturday, 18 January 2003 17:20 (twenty-three years ago)

I just failed the exam. Ah well at least it's over now.

Ronan (Ronan), Saturday, 18 January 2003 18:17 (twenty-three years ago)

oh no, sorry Ronan...

i'm not doing anything this weekend, as it's way too cold to go out. plus, it's the trading spaces live reveal tonite, so obviously, i am staying in as i don't want to miss all the televison excitement. ahem.

sand.y, Saturday, 18 January 2003 19:44 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm going to a Bastiaan gig, the band with the video of girls tits in text t-shirts, afterwards i'm probably go dancing.

erik, Saturday, 18 January 2003 19:48 (twenty-three years ago)

Darn it. I begged and pleaded, but no one wants to go out. I think I get really crazy and go colour code my sock drawer.

Kim (Kim), Saturday, 18 January 2003 23:40 (twenty-three years ago)

Last night I went drinking.

rosemary (rosemary), Sunday, 19 January 2003 16:56 (twenty-three years ago)

The singer of Bastian was cute. but i didn't go dancing afterwards.

erik, Sunday, 19 January 2003 16:58 (twenty-three years ago)

Last night I too went drinking, then I danced for a while, then I fell asleep in a strange living room far away from home. Then I got up and went home.

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 19 January 2003 19:01 (twenty-three years ago)

Watching terrible gay movies by myself. Hiking in the hills above Pasadena. Going over my friend Rocky's house to watch the Golden Globes.

Arthur (Arthur), Sunday, 19 January 2003 19:17 (twenty-three years ago)

I bought an Annette Funicello CD.

rosemary (rosemary), Sunday, 19 January 2003 19:19 (twenty-three years ago)

I did everything I said I would, but only finished half my class assignment. Oh well; next weekend I'm DJing twice, so some actual fun is in store!

mike a (mike a), Monday, 20 January 2003 02:48 (twenty-three years ago)

Gay movies in the sense of "Suddenly Last Summer", Arthur? Or "The Summer of Kip Knoll"?

I was violently ill! BLAH!!! YUCK!!! All weekend! NO!!!!

But sadly I felt I had just enough energy to drag myself to work today. So here I am at my desk feeling weak and sorry for myself. Comforting Remarks Requested.

*good thoughts for Sarah and her health* FWIW, I'm at work today myself -- it's a holiday, yes, but without anyone around I'm actually going to be able to get a lot of work done this morning [and post here as well!], and build up some other vacation time for later, so yay.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 20 January 2003 16:09 (twenty-three years ago)

I helped with my friends' garden quite a bit yesterday -- got a lot done! -- and later on had dinner with them and a couple of other folks. Today is dedicated to seeing A Mighty Wind and maybe meeting up with some folks later for a drink and some pool.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 20 April 2003 15:46 (twenty-three years ago)

I had to go to a bridal shower yesterday. The bride got up twice while opening gifts to go smoke, cos she was bored. We went to a bar afterwards. My aunt modelled gowns for like ten minutes, and I don't remember why now.

felicity (felicity), Monday, 21 April 2003 00:42 (twenty-three years ago)

I love being mentioned in another post. I even have people now. I loved thursday night I must say, something about going out with people you don't see often which is fantastic, really really enjoyed myself, I had a great little holiday in London.

Rest of the weekend didn't go so good, didn't get into Fabric on Friday and tonight was a bit of an anticlimax.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 21 April 2003 00:46 (twenty-three years ago)

Wedensday we went to see the Scene Creamers and Erase Errata at the Black Cat in DC. Came home and drank more, slept. Got up Thursday, ate in Baltimore, tried to get a ride to Adams Morgan to hit 80s night and failed, so we hit a couple of nearby dives, got hammered, learned to play shuffleboard from a couple of girls, and I don't know how we got home. Friday we picked up at 1100 and took off for NYC, got a little bit jacked up around the NJTP, made it in, parked at LaGuardia. While arguing merits of bus vs. cab to Manhattan we saw Jack and Meg White leave the airport and get into a car in the parking lot. He was in red pinstriped pants. She had a shiny red carry-on. She was hauling much more luggage than he, which seemed odd. We didn't say anything. On the cabride into town I somehow lost my cellphone. We ate a some brewpub near Times Square and I hit the internet cafe to let ppl know what was going on. Then we went and looked at Downtime @ Tracer's suggestion - Nick didn't like the looks of the crowd outside so we took a cab to CBGB's instead. We saw Joker Five Speed and they were pretty good. I don't remember the other two bands, they weren't anything special. We hit 119 for after-hours and kept drinking until 4am. Stayed at the St. Marks Hotel for $110, got up at 1100 again, wandered around the shops and street fair and blew a couple hundred here and there on mostly junk, I had pierogi for breakfast, we hitched another cab back to LGA and took off. Last night I installed my new monitor speakers, chatted until abt 2am and then went to bed. Today I read a lot, sat around, ordered a new cell phone and a pizza and am finishing off the 15 pack of Stroh's I bought on Wedensday. Tomorrow promises a return to normalcy and a long visit to the dentist's. I caught Ben Hur earlier today and now I just found The Ten Commandments on another channel. Sweet.

Millar (Millar), Monday, 21 April 2003 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Writing Church of Me! (sorry Mark, yet more words to print out! ;-) )

Putting off writing Marc Almond sleevenote.

Feeling good after picnic by the Serpentine yesterday evening - always good to see Simon R/David S again, and great to meet Kodwo E and Matthew I at long last!

Marcello Carlin, Sunday, 29 June 2003 11:35 (twenty-two years ago)

could you hear bon jovi from the serpentine?

today, I think I shall make some mix CD's, and basically sit around and do not that much.

jel -- (jel), Sunday, 29 June 2003 11:37 (twenty-two years ago)

We did indeed hear Bon Jovi! Simon was in fact periodically singing along with them...so much for cutting-edge Blissblog integrity! ;-) (actually we were all singing along but anyway...). Though he did regret that Skullflower weren't supporting them. Also heard and saw the fireworks at the end as we were walking back up Exhibition Road - "We're being attacked! Surrounded by all these embassies!" etc.

Marcello Carlin, Sunday, 29 June 2003 11:45 (twenty-two years ago)

hehe! fireworks we're great! There was a rumour that Busted were going to support, but this proved to be false :(

jel -- (jel), Sunday, 29 June 2003 11:48 (twenty-two years ago)

''Though he did regret that Skullflower weren't supporting them.''

wot a shame :-)

Aw. :-(

always good to see Simon R/David S again

Somehow I imagine both of them would be dry cutups to be around if in the same place.

Leonard Cohen Tribute in Prospect Park?

Mary, did you go to this? I went and left halfway through -- show was okay enough, but the lawn was v. crowded and everyone was milling around and talking so I couldn't concentrate on the music.

Laurie Anderson cannot sing.

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Sunday, 29 June 2003 14:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Donated DNA to a needy virgin.

Played an improv laptop show at a party using only the built-in speakers on my iBook. No signal, just savage, tinny feedback.

Went to the opening of a group show called 'Do hope for the future' at Laforet Museum. Great fun, and all the Tokyo art stars were there, from Araki down.

JBR, yes I went, I wish I saw you, I was the one eating the overpriced chicken bbq dinner. I only stayed for the first hour or so, it was a really nice night, but the music was so quiet and drowned out by the crowd, I didn't even see doofus rainwright's arrival. Next time let's coordinate.

Mary (Mary), Sunday, 29 June 2003 22:14 (twenty-two years ago)

I didn't even see doofus rainwright's arrival

This sentence fills me with glee.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 29 June 2003 22:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Highlight of what I got to see: Linda Thompson, in fine fine voice. God is she ever amazing. (But what did she sing? I'm already forgetting. Was it "A Singer Must Die"?)

But then Friday nite I got a letter confirming the go ahead to buy a house & all plans were off. Money had to be saved & plans had to be made. yay!

enjoy Scarborough Mr Noodles, its a nice place!

You do know I was talking about the pseudosuburb in Toronto right?
The park was nice, but they didn't feed us as well as in the past. A team from Scotland was looking to win it all (the finals are in an hour) if they could squeeze past the semi's were they were playing the strongest competition. It was kinda sad, less international teams this year cause of Thesars virus.
Its also kinda sad when 14 year old kids are both taller and faster then me.

ANd we got another lock-in in a London pub. We are th kings of the lock-in at the moment.

Granny scooters go surprisingly fast (though not as fast a Stephen Hawkings chair - ha ha Jim Carrey - its like something out of the Simpsons).

Julio I said Greatest hits not classical indie.

Also we were given advice by a nice very drunk Scotsman with an outlansdishly gravelly voice. Pete was drinking rum & clove. The advice was more or less the same as Kenny Rogers's dad gives Kenny Rogers in "Coward of the County".

It's true we are the lock-in kings. And the Saturday morning paupers.

jess (dubplatestyle), Monday, 30 June 2003 15:33 (twenty-two years ago)

basically i found out on thursday afternoon that someone close to me might have a tumor - which might or might not be malignant - in them, and then on friday found out they did indeed, spent the weekend in transit back to philadelphia, spent sunday in a hospital, didn't sleep last night, and thankfully found out today that it wasn't malignant and will be operated on today. meanwhile i left several people in the lurch here, to varying degrees of flakeyness. i am fucking exhausted and writing this in a lounge in the hospital right now. if everything goes well i'll be back on a plane very late tonight/early tomorrow. this has been the most hellish five day period in recent memory.

jess (dubplatestyle), Monday, 30 June 2003 15:38 (twenty-two years ago)

well best wishes to that person and have a good flight jess.

two years pass...
Revive! What are you doing *this* weekend?

I'm bored. Inspire me, because I've got sod all to do except rehearse tomorrow and write the reviews I was supposed to write last weekend.

Here I Go, Higher! Higher! (kate), Friday, 5 May 2006 10:34 (twenty years ago)

I've got lots of things to do - a model train show tomorrow morning, a club tomorrow night, then maybe a pubmeet Sunday afternoon if I wake up in time.

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Friday, 5 May 2006 10:37 (twenty years ago)

Take an exam tomorrow, play some poker tomorrow night, begin studying for my LAST LAW SCHOOL FINAL EVER (which is on Friday) on Sunday.

Big Loud Mountain Ape (Big Loud Mountain Ape), Friday, 5 May 2006 10:40 (twenty years ago)

tonite: watching the football team lose on the tv.
tomorrow: maybe clothes/record shoppin' inna afternoon, poker game inna evening.
sunday: dunno. research maybe.

lil' merzbow wow (haitch), Friday, 5 May 2006 12:03 (twenty years ago)

Ah! Also, I should finish my mural, and then sort out my bedroom. That would be a good Sunday afternoon activity.

Here I Go, Higher! Higher! (kate), Friday, 5 May 2006 12:04 (twenty years ago)

At some point, hopefully, ELEFANT! Also, some gigging. Mostly though consuming media, I have a hard drive full of Lost + Who + comics and I haven't watched half of the DVDs or read half of the books on my shelf, and I have decided that May will be the month to address this.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 5 May 2006 12:09 (twenty years ago)

I am engaging in exciting club-related wheelings and dealings this evening then off to meet friends afterwards, possibly taking in a sleeping elephant on the way.

Tomorrow I should really be sitting out in the sun like all sensible people but instead several of my friends will be round to watch a bad 80s DVD in which London (specifically Blackheath) gets invaded by ALIEN VAMPIRES! Then I will be watching Doctor Who and going to the pub, then to Alan Braxe mentalism at the Key, and god knows when that will end.

Consequently, Sunday is impossible to predict.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 5 May 2006 12:10 (twenty years ago)

Actually, according to Amazon that should read ALIEN SEX VAMPIRES. Carry on talking amongst yourselves.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 5 May 2006 12:13 (twenty years ago)

I might also go see the crazy Scientologist shoot Truman Capote in the face, that might be fun.

Oh and there's Geeta, in some form. I'm up for any plans (that don't involve Young Person's Dancing Music) in that manner.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 5 May 2006 12:16 (twenty years ago)

Physics colloquia (on the possible origins of the Cosmic Microwave Background's low-l deviation from the predictions of CDM) until 5, whence to a mother fucking beer garden, where I will drink the shit out of some Fosters in the sun.

Saturday: read review articles on galaxy formation, finish Summer 2006 samplers for record label (tell me if they look ok, please), drink beer from fridge. Probably Little Creatures Pale Ale (from Australia via Oddbins), which is LUSH.

Sunday: maybe more beer. Maybe more reading. I have The Pianist, Being There and Real Genius out on DVD, so maybe one of those.

caek (caek), Friday, 5 May 2006 12:20 (twenty years ago)

TOP SECRET STATE SECRET

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Friday, 5 May 2006 12:21 (twenty years ago)

thankfully i developed a cleaning frenzy last night and sorted out my house instead of having to do it this weekend, which leaves me ample time to do NOTHING WHATSOEVER!

Tonight i will be going around a friends house to drink wine and watch dvd's.

all my other good-time buddies are in Spain on a stag weekend.

Ste (Fuzzy), Friday, 5 May 2006 12:21 (twenty years ago)

If that's the cover, caek, it looks lovely.

i shall be taking the kids to the gosford show - -which is sure to include horses, cows and fruit cakes. maybe a big slippery dip.

i shall be drinking beer and reading comics.

i shall also be devising a lesson plan or three for monday.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Friday, 5 May 2006 12:24 (twenty years ago)

i will be staying in and typing up mathematics all weekend. fun fun fun.

what is this elephant?

toby (tsg20), Friday, 5 May 2006 12:24 (twenty years ago)

Thanks! It's the front cover on the right, and the back cover on the left. I am rather fond of it too!

[although technically I'm on rather dodgy legal ground with the image, and should really go down to the Bodleian and scan it myself. I might do that this weekend actually. DOPE.]

caek (caek), Friday, 5 May 2006 12:31 (twenty years ago)

p.s. Hi-res PDF version is nicer.

caek (caek), Friday, 5 May 2006 12:32 (twenty years ago)

Sorry, I'm geeking out, but is that a botanical illustration of Morning Glory? (and look I resisted geeking out and asking you about the CMB conference thing.)

Here I Go, Higher! Higher! (kate), Friday, 5 May 2006 12:34 (twenty years ago)

Dunno. I think it's honeysuckle, isn't it? It's from Plate XCIX of The Grammar of Ornament, scans of which killy linked to on the noize board.

The book is out of copyright, but the scans aren't, so I need to go to the library and scan it myself before I can properly distribute the design. YAY COPYRIGHT LAW!

caek (caek), Friday, 5 May 2006 12:39 (twenty years ago)

how would they tell the scans were theirs not yrs?

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Friday, 5 May 2006 12:42 (twenty years ago)

Toby - ELEPHANT! ELEPHANT! ELEPHANT!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 5 May 2006 12:43 (twenty years ago)

With difficulty, I guess, but I don't feel comfortable risking it. Especially now I've posted this! Anyway, getting weird books out of the stack at the Bodleian is fun.

caek (caek), Friday, 5 May 2006 12:48 (twenty years ago)

So that's what I'm doing this weekend. On with the thread, please! What are you doing?

caek (caek), Friday, 5 May 2006 12:51 (twenty years ago)

The Noize board has HEARD of the Grammar of Ornament?

But design is, like, Liberal Arts sort of crap, innit? I have the book, but it's in storage at my mum's house. I think.

Sorry, it is what are you doing at the weekend, but Owen Jones is far more interesting than my mundane plans.

Here I Go, Higher! Higher! (kate), Friday, 5 May 2006 12:55 (twenty years ago)

Tonight - reading comics, a couple of pints, eating chili. POssibly watching American Idol.
Tomorrow - at the whim of an 11 year old, then watching Doctor Who.
Sunday - making tablet for taking to ATP.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Friday, 5 May 2006 12:56 (twenty years ago)

Ooh ooh must remember to record Doctor Who becasue there's no way I'll be home in time for the repeat on Sunday.

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Friday, 5 May 2006 12:57 (twenty years ago)

Design is hippie shit, indeed. That's why I like getting the books out of the stack. I show them my uni ID, which says I'm a theoretical physicist, and all the librarians come over and laugh at me. It's more than a little thrilling, I can tell you.

I'm happy to talk about design all day (well, until the talk at 4.15), but I didn't want to derail your revive!

caek (caek), Friday, 5 May 2006 13:06 (twenty years ago)

No, I don't believe design is crap, or I wouldn't have studied it, but I thought that was Noize Board canon or something. Owen Jones' history and archeology was a bit suspect (some of the early pages are totally misatributed) but his design sense was spot on.

Theoretical physicist? Blimey! How pointed is your nose... ::slaps self:: Wait, no, this is not the Friday Afternoon Bored And Flirting Thread.

Here I Go, Higher! Higher! (kate), Friday, 5 May 2006 13:11 (twenty years ago)

i need some plans, i've been so busy at work, i haven't made any

ai lien (kold_krush), Friday, 5 May 2006 13:12 (twenty years ago)

I have given up on ever seeing another ep of Dr. Who, unless of course Koogsy remembered to burn the eps and mail them to me... ::crosses fingers::

Here I Go, Higher! Higher! (kate), Friday, 5 May 2006 13:15 (twenty years ago)

I'm afraid I'd be lying if I said I'd read any of the text of G of O, or planned to in the future, or indeed knew anything about the history of art other than what I like (COOL STUFF).

I just searched to see what the significance of having a pointy nose would be, and pretty much all I found was you lusting after men's noses. Most odd.

caek (caek), Friday, 5 May 2006 13:26 (twenty years ago)

uh oh

Ste (Fuzzy), Friday, 5 May 2006 13:29 (twenty years ago)

There's text in the Grammar of Ornament? I thought it was just 100 plates of gorgeous full colour paisleys (and other eye-bending Victorian designs):

My Favourite Colour Is Paisley

ANyway, forget I said anything about noses. ::lays finger aside nose:: Oops, I mean, ARGH! ::closes eyes and thinks of Cepheid Variables::

Here I Go, Higher! Higher! (kate), Friday, 5 May 2006 13:32 (twenty years ago)

Tonight: Fung Wah to Boston; attending girlfriend's educational astronomy show; drugs

I have a funeral to go to tomorrow, however I am quite looking forward to it as the woman in question requested a racous and rowdy affair with much booze, food an merriment in her honour. There will be tears but there will be much hapiness in remembrance.

Ed (dali), Friday, 5 May 2006 13:37 (twenty years ago)

I've never actually seen a physical copy, so I could be talking rubbish. Maybe there is only text in the folio edition.

fyi, my PhD will be called: "T/S: Lamda-Cold Dark Matter vs. Galactic Dynamics and S/D: Modified theories of gravity"

caek (caek), Friday, 5 May 2006 13:49 (twenty years ago)

Making Tuscan Vegetable torte in the Crock Pot with GF and friend tonight. Chilling HARD all day tomorrow while friend from Memphis tries to fix his grease-conversion Diesel truck. Hopefully he'll get it fixed as I'm driving to Kansas City on Sunday to catch Sunburned Hand of the Man as one of my best friends in the world is playing guitar with them on this tour.

Tripmaker (SDWitzm), Friday, 5 May 2006 13:50 (twenty years ago)

Now I'm going to see the Elephant, the Elephant, the Elephant, tonight! Hurrah! I feel a plan coming together...

Here I Go, Higher! Higher! (kate), Friday, 5 May 2006 14:08 (twenty years ago)

Tonight: Dinner with gf at this cute Moroccan place where we had our first date, then to a bar where my friend Mark, who now lives in Ireland but is back for a couple weeks, will be hanging out

Tomorrow: Haven't decided daytime plans yet, although it'd be wise to do some chores (laundry, groceries, finally pay my taxes), in the evening, either go to see Waiting for Godot at a small storefront theater or the Fake Fictions at the Hideout.

Sunday: Who knows, really.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 5 May 2006 14:14 (twenty years ago)

Go to cinco de Mayo festival/farmer's market opening tomorrow morning to procure produce, etc. Try to get NDS to play nice on the house wifi. Watch one (1) or more of the netflix that have been in the house for weeks. Overplan upcoming roadtrip. Drink.

Jaq (Jaq), Friday, 5 May 2006 14:15 (twenty years ago)

Oh, I'm supposed to write an upbeat dancey song this weekend!

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 5 May 2006 14:16 (twenty years ago)

Go out of town to visit family. Haven't seen them since christmas and gas is expensive so this visit will be a big production.

Also, since my grandmother's died, people have moved further apart and I no longer have a place to stay when I go "home". We had to get a hotel room. how f'ed is that.

Miss Misery xox (MissMiseryTX), Friday, 5 May 2006 14:22 (twenty years ago)

Have actually remembered to series link Dr. Who, so there won't be the usual 'oh jesus, I forgot to record Dr. Who' moment which led to a bit of an unseemly outburst on the train last week.

Going out to dinner tomorrow night at friends' house. Then Sunday, well, usual long beach walk with the dogs followed by a shower and a big nap all round. Spring out of bed on Sunday evening all ready for, er, a quiet beer and some telly.

rock on!

accentmonkey (accentmonkey), Friday, 5 May 2006 14:26 (twenty years ago)

one year passes...

Right. I'm moving in with a couple of friends. Don't kno exactly where yet. Somewhere on the Gold Coast. And sometime over the nest couple of weeks. So, probably going to have to look for places this wend.
There's allegedly a sweet looking house (or maybe a duplex i can't remember what my friend said) on a canal and the it has its own tinny!!

This canal often has shark sightings though. :/

W4LTER, Friday, 24 August 2007 06:15 (eighteen years ago)

Who/ what kind of bands are playing in Echo Park? We have some friends in from DC and they are music types, and we live in South Pas.

Other than that, we were thinking MOCA, The Gamble House and POSSIBLY the Griffith for sunset, but that may fall by the wayside if its not a very clear day.

Other than that, prolly some research tomorrow morning, try to convince my wife to make one of her yummy quiches, and attempt to stay out of trouble. I have a bachelor party to go to in Ann Arbor next weekend, so low key and without legal incident is this weekend's mantra.

Stop stealing my weekend.

Actually mine's a little more busy for a change. Tonight I'm hosting a Harry Potter party at my house for the women I went to the book release with. Then tomorrow/Sunday we'll be at the in-laws for a birthday. Fun.

Packing books and records mostly. Renting a truck and delivering tables/chairs to lxy, a giant bookshelf to daughter, lawn furniture to other friends. Maybe kai-ten sushi lunch w/ son and trip to pick up the remainder of his (now very late) birthday present (many plastic record storage boxes in Hello Kitty colors). Or maybe just reading and napping.

Friends are coming over on Sunday, so suddenly I have to get the house ready for friends coming over. This is a good thing, because it is the only time I clean. Really I should invite people over every week.

Maybe every other week.

Tonight & tomorrow I'm going to visit a friend from high school and join in her & her roommates' weekend routine. I haven't seen her since around Christmas, I think, so I'm excited! Then Sunday I will go to the barn and do horse chores with my family.

I have to clean my room tomorrow and put together the dresser I bought and put all my clothes in it (I have been living out of boxes for three months). Should I get h1 or drunk or both before I do this?

Tonight I'm going to drink and smoke and listen to Oi music. Plus ca change. Tomorrow I have to go the post office to pick up a package, do general housework and if the weather report is correct, possibly have BBQ in the evening. I don't think I can afford to go out anywhere but I may pop to DanFAP for a bit. Sunday will be lazy. Then Bank Holiday Monday, uh I dunno I suppose I should try to achieve something vaguely constructive.
