The Pint Pot, which is on Tottenham Court Road, just up the road from Goodge Street tube (turn left out of Goodge Street).

I'll be there from about 6, others will turn up later. Karaoke starts at about 9/9.30 if you want to sneak off early. SINGING IS NOT COMPULSORY though expect encouragement.

See you there, I hope.

Tom (Groke), Tuesday, 28 January 2003 12:08 (twenty-three years ago)

Not sure I am able to make it after all. I'll try.

Mark C (Mark C), Tuesday, 28 January 2003 12:12 (twenty-three years ago)

B...but who'll do the falsetto?

Tim (Tim), Tuesday, 28 January 2003 12:13 (twenty-three years ago)

I'll be there, but I've got to be in at 9am Friday so I might have to leave early.

Graham (graham), Tuesday, 28 January 2003 12:14 (twenty-three years ago)

And as mentioned on other thread, if you look young bring ID because the bouncer in the there can be mistrustful.

Pete (Pete), Tuesday, 28 January 2003 12:18 (twenty-three years ago)

And as mentioned on other thread, if you look young bring ID because the bouncer in the there can be mistrustful.

how mistrustful? should i make a note to dig out my old prove-it card?!

anyway i'll be there from six or so too, i'm sure.

toby (tsg20), Tuesday, 28 January 2003 13:30 (twenty-three years ago)

I shall be there from abt 6-6.30.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Tuesday, 28 January 2003 13:31 (twenty-three years ago)

Very mistrustful. I'm bring my passport and I'm almost 30.

Pete (Pete), Tuesday, 28 January 2003 17:50 (twenty-three years ago)

I will not shave for the next couple of days.

(toby you'e bringing the CDs along yes? I'll search for the skullflower CDR).

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Tuesday, 28 January 2003 17:51 (twenty-three years ago)

if you look young bring ID

OK.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 28 January 2003 19:18 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm not sure about this one, is the central line working?

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 28 January 2003 19:19 (twenty-three years ago)

the nothern line is jel

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Tuesday, 28 January 2003 19:24 (twenty-three years ago)

umm julio i hope so - certainly one of them anyway. this place is still in chaos and i'm not sure i'm going to have a chance to track the other one down...

toby (tsg20), Tuesday, 28 January 2003 19:40 (twenty-three years ago)

oh ok i've just found it + will bring it. don't think i'm going to have time to cdr anything for you though i'm afraid.

toby (tsg20), Tuesday, 28 January 2003 19:43 (twenty-three years ago)

No Central Line today. Apparently the stretch between Liverpool Street and Holborn will be down for weeks, but the rest should be starting up again soon, so you might be okay jel.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 28 January 2003 21:38 (twenty-three years ago)

no prob abt CDR (heh I've got two CDRs today becuz i taped the robert wyatt doc for a guy on a music list I'm on). thanks.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Tuesday, 28 January 2003 21:41 (twenty-three years ago)

I hope it's proper Japanese-style booths! I sadly won't be able to make it, but am overlooking Village Karaoke as I type...Have fun! Song list is U&K.

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 28 January 2003 22:06 (twenty-three years ago)

I will try and get there for 6:30-7:00ish, but again probably have to make an early exit. Would be disappointed not to see SOME karaoke, though.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 07:19 (twenty-three years ago)

yeah I think i'll see a bit of the karaoke and go early too.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 10:30 (twenty-three years ago)

Proper Japanese sytle karaoke sucks
a) You only sing to your mates not risking ridicule and/or discovery by Pete Waterman
b) The songs are in Japanese.

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 10:33 (twenty-three years ago)

Pete- is a student ID OK (i don't want to be barred from the pub).

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 10:35 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm sure it will be fine, Julio.

Tim (Tim), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 10:36 (twenty-three years ago)

SHould be (anyway you won't have so much trouble as an early arriver).

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 10:39 (twenty-three years ago)

There are of course huge muscular bouncers with snarling, chain-stretching dogs, cutting off the arms of punters at random and counting the rings to establish that they are old enough to gain entry to the fabled paradise which is the Pint Pot.

Tim (Tim), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 10:46 (twenty-three years ago)

And that's just me (though I've lost my Camden card, and if I ever want to bounce in this town again I need to get a new one).

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 10:57 (twenty-three years ago)

so I'll just bring my student ID along then and I'll get there by 6.

(going along with tim's description I'll say that's just my sort of place)

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 11:12 (twenty-three years ago)

WHo dripped all that sarcasm round here?

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 11:18 (twenty-three years ago)

Rick, can you poke your enigmatic flatmate into coming out?

Graham (graham), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 12:30 (twenty-three years ago)

I'll see what I can do.

RickyT (RickyT), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 12:37 (twenty-three years ago)

The thought of ever drinking again is turning my stomach. I was going to start a ruin thread, but that made me feel sick too. Ruin, ruin, ruin. Blah.

Anna (Anna), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 13:03 (twenty-three years ago)

Good Lord. I may come out, but cannot promise any singing, as I have a horrible cold and the voice of a transvestite at present. Beer is veh gd for sore throats, though. Err. I do hope that 'Paranoid Android' will NOT get an airing, as Tottenham Ct Rd doesn't need the trauma, frangly.

Poor Anna. Take drgs.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 13:10 (twenty-three years ago)

I would've thought Paranoid Android is an especially crap choice for karaoke, with its large sections with no lyrics in them.

Voice of a transvestite? I'm scratching my head over that one, Liz. Unless you mean a *particular* transvestite.

MarkH (MarkH), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 13:22 (twenty-three years ago)

Husky and yet apparently ladylike.

Paranoid Android was committed by Starry and Tom once ages ago at the dearly departed KoC, innit. Wasn't there to witness the gore, thank Jebus.

Meh, back to work. Shal most likely see some people on Thursday unless I drown in my own phlegm. Eww.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 13:26 (twenty-three years ago)

I saw Paranoid Android, I think it was that that finally put the nail in Karaoke's coffin for me.

I am on very large quantities of antibiotics but may be along. Not drinking, natch.

chris (chris), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 13:31 (twenty-three years ago)

It wasn't me! I had to go and get some cash out of the machine and my name was called so PETE BARAN took my place. That is where the ruin started. I have never sung anything embarrassing at karaoke, honest.

Tom (Groke), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 14:57 (twenty-three years ago)

No TOm, never anything embarressing. Just something bad.

The Paanic, The Vomittttt.

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 15:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Raaaaaaaaaain doowwwwwwwwwn....

Ahem yes. I have thr04t ov d00m so probably won't be singing either but who knows the anasthetic qualities of BEER eh? I am feeling better today, I think it is due to Sudafed. It also makes my palms sweaty and my fingers... somewhat... itchy.

Sarah (starry), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 15:09 (twenty-three years ago)

That is where the ruin started.

So if you'd been there to supervise, it would have gone well?

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 15:17 (twenty-three years ago)

(hey y'all sorry in advance if I don't show up)

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 19:32 (twenty-three years ago)

NB i have seen tom ewing doing "teletubbies say eh-oh" at karaoke, so ignore his previous statement.

i'll be there :)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 19:36 (twenty-three years ago)

FUCKING HELL I want to move to LONDON!

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 19:41 (twenty-three years ago)

It's not all that!

Wonder how it's going though. D'you wanna sing along to some songs with me here?

Lara (Lara), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 19:43 (twenty-three years ago)

I would, but I need to be ULTRAHYPERPRODUCTIVE for the next hour.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 19:44 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh. Ok then. I'll keep humming to myself then.

Lara (Lara), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 19:45 (twenty-three years ago)

Ps: Go Dan, GO!!

Lara (Lara), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 19:45 (twenty-three years ago)

lara, it's only wednesday here, is ireland on thursday already?

thus it is not going at all yet, innit...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 19:47 (twenty-three years ago)

my throat this, my throat that...I want to see fellow ILXORS singing tomorrow OK!!!

As for me I would need to get drunk to do any of this but i don't drink so I'm xcused.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 19:48 (twenty-three years ago)

http://www.base58.com/misc/london.jpg

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 19:58 (twenty-three years ago)

I didn't think Dan's post was related to the FAP. Did you? I'm just endlessly impressed by the glamorous lives you London folk live...

Lara (Lara), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 20:01 (twenty-three years ago)

I'd like to make it known that I am available to do London Tourism advertisements.

Lara (Lara), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 20:02 (twenty-three years ago)

I can barely walk across the road without going into a coughing fit at present, and if you saw the state of my hankies you would know that my singing would be even more horrendous than usual.

Are you going to sing us some nice Derek Bailey and Albert Ayler songs, Julio?

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 21:28 (twenty-three years ago)

Just occurred to me I have no idea what anyone looks like. Is there an ILX flag?

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 21:50 (twenty-three years ago)

I was listening to him actually. the last track has some of the most 'unique' vocals in music history.

derek bailey doesn't sing but talks. he's voice is lovely too.

I'm doing kurt schiwitters type improv.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 21:51 (twenty-three years ago)

julio make me an improv tape, please.

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 21:53 (twenty-three years ago)

Nordickskillz, I'll be there from early. Pic on my profile. I'm 5'7, #1 haircut, dark suit, white shirt, red tie. Also, listen out for people shouting "Taking sides: classic or dud?" and the like.

I'll look forward to meeting you.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 22:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Thanks, Martin.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 22:02 (twenty-three years ago)

''julio make me an improv tape, please.''

OK. won't have time to do anything tonight but I got yr home address.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 22:03 (twenty-three years ago)

thanks Julio!

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 22:04 (twenty-three years ago)

nordik, basically you can't miss us ;)

tom is the easiest to spot as he has a BEARD and glasses and longish dark hair. also if you see a shortish blonde guy singing in a silly gruff voice that is ptee. martin is also pretty easy to spot i think (this is not a bad thing :))

lara, you clearly said:

Wonder how it's going though. D'you wanna sing along to some songs with me here?

what else could "it" be??

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 22:17 (twenty-three years ago)

No one should have trouble spotting the ILXers as you'll be the ones sitting with the Chicken Bear, right?

Lara (Lara), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 23:14 (twenty-three years ago)

juts putting this at the top of the new ans.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Thursday, 30 January 2003 10:07 (twenty-three years ago)

Still feeling a bit rub and it's bloody cold, when are people getting there and how far along TCR is the boozer? If I come I shall NOT BE DRINKING so I will remember what FULES you all make of yrselves bwahahahah I SHALL HAF THE POWER!

Sarah (starry), Thursday, 30 January 2003 10:08 (twenty-three years ago)

You not drinking in a publick house? I'll believe it when I see it.

RickyT (RickyT), Thursday, 30 January 2003 10:12 (twenty-three years ago)

will there be karaoke another time? (feeling kinda the same as Starry today!)

Have fun!

jel -- (jel), Thursday, 30 January 2003 10:13 (twenty-three years ago)

Boozer = across TCR from Goodge Street station and a little way up towards Euston. I'll be there at half six or seven most likely, after having fed myself with low-qual food.

Tim (Tim), Thursday, 30 January 2003 10:13 (twenty-three years ago)

I went to a public house last night and didn't drink you know! Orange juice and lemonade num num how refreshing. I got just as melancholy as I do after drinking anyway :( Anyway RickyT I bought you a book today so I shall have no aspersions cast on my sobriety!

Goodge Street cor thats awkward to get to via the old bus route.

Sarah (starry), Thursday, 30 January 2003 10:21 (twenty-three years ago)

'Pends on the bus.

Pete (Pete), Thursday, 30 January 2003 10:25 (twenty-three years ago)

Buses from parliament square? There's at least two changes the only way I figures it.

Sarah (starry), Thursday, 30 January 2003 10:27 (twenty-three years ago)

If you're determined to take the bus all the way to Goodge St. you could get the 12 then the 73 couldn't you Starry?

Tim (Tim), Thursday, 30 January 2003 10:30 (twenty-three years ago)

24 will go all the way from Parliment Square.

Pete (Pete), Thursday, 30 January 2003 10:50 (twenty-three years ago)

I thought the 24 disappeared off elsewhere for some reason, searched on the rub London Transport journey planner and it didn't come up under Parliament Sq to Goodge St!

Sarah (starry), Thursday, 30 January 2003 10:52 (twenty-three years ago)

Nope, 24 will take you all the way. TRUST THE BUS GENIUS.

Route 24: Pimlico, Parliment Square, Whitehall, Trafalgar Square, Charing Cross Road, Tottenham Court ROad, Stinky Camden, Really scummy backstreets of Stinky Camden, Hampstead Heath.

Pete (Pete), Thursday, 30 January 2003 10:54 (twenty-three years ago)

The 24 is on their map of central London but doesn't come up on their (as Starry says) k-rub journey planner. It was really good when they had details of each route sorted by number or destination. That function seems to have been removed. Sob.

Happily the 63 goes everywhere in the whole of London anyway.

Tim (Tim), Thursday, 30 January 2003 10:55 (twenty-three years ago)

malden road is not scummy

ok it is

gareth (gareth), Thursday, 30 January 2003 10:56 (twenty-three years ago)

Sorry Gareth. I forgot.

Actually nothing is scummier than the 24. WIth its fake wood effect lino and bizarre smell of mud.

Pete (Pete), Thursday, 30 January 2003 10:57 (twenty-three years ago)

Right ho then I'll hop along on the old 24! I thought it might have diverted off round Leicester Sq way.

Sarah (starry), Thursday, 30 January 2003 10:58 (twenty-three years ago)

Mud and street drinker. You can't have forgetten the brew crew BO, surely?

RickyT (RickyT), Thursday, 30 January 2003 10:59 (twenty-three years ago)

Sorry, good point - the West End Green Brew Crew are particularly pungent fans of the 24.

Pete (Pete), Thursday, 30 January 2003 11:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I went to a pub last night and didn't drink, fortunately there was a fantastic footy match on and I was catching up with an old chum, otherwise it would have been unbearable, I ain't going to manage it two nights in a row though so tonight will have to be a no-show for me.

chris (chris), Thursday, 30 January 2003 11:07 (twenty-three years ago)

Directions to the pub: turn right out of my office, first right onto Tottenham Court Road, it's the first pub on the right, hooray! I'll probably grab a bite to eat after work, so will get there between 5.30 and 6.

The Pint Pot is a few yards north of Torrington Place (where I work, at #1), on the east side of the road.

Goodge Street was closed this morning due to Fire strike (I assume). Next nearest tube is Warren Street (turn right and it's across the road after 300yds). The Central Line was still not running this morning either, for anyone aiming for Tottenham Court Road station.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 30 January 2003 11:28 (twenty-three years ago)

I'll take a stroll as well.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Thursday, 30 January 2003 11:54 (twenty-three years ago)

doesnt look like i can make it (awwwww....) - feel absolutely shee-ite, should still on for Saturday tho - hope many of you are as well - see Blueski's Buttoned Down Disco FAP: Sat Feb 1

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 30 January 2003 13:25 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm going to pop in briefly, although not if the absolute BLIZZARD outside continues.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 30 January 2003 13:36 (twenty-three years ago)

presumably goodge st has reopened now, hasn't it?

toby (tsg20), Thursday, 30 January 2003 14:03 (twenty-three years ago)

Pete, the drunks are on SOUTH End Green at the 24 bus terminus (Esther and I used to live above where the Starfucks is).

Bus Genius, pah...;-)

suzy (suzy), Thursday, 30 January 2003 14:10 (twenty-three years ago)

Any further advances on the Goodge St question?

Sarah (starry), Thursday, 30 January 2003 14:11 (twenty-three years ago)

South End Green, Pimlico an all points in between.

Ed (dali), Thursday, 30 January 2003 14:12 (twenty-three years ago)

Sarah, even in the cold it's still not the worst walk in the whole world and don't forget LATE NIGHT WINDOW-SHOPPING to stay warm on the way.

I probably won't be there 'cos of Photog's Gallery opening/Laika show.

suzy (suzy), Thursday, 30 January 2003 14:18 (twenty-three years ago)

Goodge Street is now open.

I can't consider anything on Saturday (haha, as if people my age are allowed into clubs!) because I am going to see the Rezillos, I think.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 30 January 2003 14:54 (twenty-three years ago)

is it time to go to the pub yet?

blimey what a day, curse you inspector types and your incessant data-related questions...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 30 January 2003 15:03 (twenty-three years ago)

If someone could reserve me a seat, I'll love them forever...

I am newly shorn, so look even balder than usual. Anyone think I'll have trouble with the bouncers?

Mark C (Mark C), Thursday, 30 January 2003 15:52 (twenty-three years ago)

I've just bought Crossroads on DVD so you'll have to talk me into coming out instead.

Graham (graham), Thursday, 30 January 2003 15:53 (twenty-three years ago)

Does a night in with a Crossroads DVD *really* sound more entertaining than standing in a pub watching Tom Ewing sing It Wasn't Me?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 30 January 2003 15:55 (twenty-three years ago)

perhaps we can combine the two - Tom bring your most accurate Benny hat with you...

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 30 January 2003 15:57 (twenty-three years ago)

Sorry, it says so much about my cultural illiteracy that I assumed you were talking about Crossroads the crap ITV soap.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 30 January 2003 15:57 (twenty-three years ago)

i thought that too

gareth (gareth), Thursday, 30 January 2003 16:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Wheee I'm actually looking forward to a bit of a walk in the snow if it's still falling by that time of the evening. It's torture sitting in an office in Wood Green with prettiness falling (and sometimes flying back up again) past the window and not being out in it, especially with my big tweed coat and everything.

Can someone also save me a chair at the pub? I fear I have to clean the bathroom before coming out, as my housemates will garotte me in my drunken sleep tonight if I don't. And I'll sneeze on the backs of your necks if there isn't a seat waiting for me...

Liz :x (Liz :x), Thursday, 30 January 2003 16:29 (twenty-three years ago)

Is Bluddy cold on TCR. South End / West End - that's not a bus related point. It says Hampstead Heath on the front.

Pete (Pete), Thursday, 30 January 2003 16:33 (twenty-three years ago)

Snow permitting - yah mo be there

Dr. C (Dr. C), Thursday, 30 January 2003 16:40 (twenty-three years ago)

me too by the look of it now, I've had a hell of a day and I need a drink.... Oh hell, I'm off the booze goddammit.

chris (chris), Thursday, 30 January 2003 16:45 (twenty-three years ago)

Maybe just the one for medicinal purposes, Chris?

Lara (Lara), Thursday, 30 January 2003 16:46 (twenty-three years ago)

come on...its just a breeze! and the little snow flakes melt as it hits the ground.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Thursday, 30 January 2003 16:47 (twenty-three years ago)

it is tempting Lara, but on these elephant pills it may noty be a good idea, I felt a bit grotty this morning after just one nut brown ale last night, mind you the pub was *horribly* smoky a fact only brightened by the crying gooners in it.

chris (chris), Thursday, 30 January 2003 16:48 (twenty-three years ago)

"crying gooners" ?

London sounds scary!

Lara (Lara), Thursday, 30 January 2003 16:49 (twenty-three years ago)

They were the worst sort of gooner too, the ones who are really passionate but know jacksh@t about footy, especially the two twunts sat in front of me and big ginger John.

chris (chris), Thursday, 30 January 2003 16:50 (twenty-three years ago)

i've also had a bit of a day and am GAGGING FOR BOUZE, i am the only fit and healthy person here?

am contemplating lining stomach with chips from greek chippy next to TCR tube, but fear they may get covered in snow, which would be no good at all, maybe buggerking instead...

(me also on the crossroads thing btw)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 30 January 2003 16:50 (twenty-three years ago)

oh, and that was never a corner...

gunnerbyproxy (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 30 January 2003 16:51 (twenty-three years ago)

No no don't drink on pills, it drives you mental... am feeling tired now, I think this drinking of non-caffienated substances kick == rub! Perhaps I shall have some COFFEE before I come out hoorah!

Haha it wasn't the walk from TCR getting to the pub that was an issue, it was getting to Goodge St to get home FROM the pub that were t'issue.

Sarah (starry), Thursday, 30 January 2003 16:56 (twenty-three years ago)

I've got to make it to one of these things sooner or later. Think this one may be out due to incessant indigestion (and the fear that if it snows any more in Colchester I won't be able to get home and be forced to sleep under my desk). Enjoy the singing. Um, if "enjoy" is the right word.

I've just thought (doesn't happen very often - make the most of it) - how would I know which was you lot? Is there any "copy of the guardian under everyones left arms" type, ILX FAP malarkey? I bloody hope not. The whole idea is silly. So how, then?

SittingPretty (sittingpretty), Thursday, 30 January 2003 16:59 (twenty-three years ago)

oh, a corner it was, on the replay you could see the defender's (Lauren?) foot roll over the ball.

chris (chris), Thursday, 30 January 2003 17:03 (twenty-three years ago)

d4rn!3ll3 said he might show: if he does, can one of u mentalists w. my mobile no. get him to txt me or smpn...

mark s (mark s), Thursday, 30 January 2003 17:11 (twenty-three years ago)

If you want to set someone up - give them the "Macarena". The words fly past in Spanish at about a million miles an hour.

Lynskey (Lynskey), Thursday, 30 January 2003 17:21 (twenty-three years ago)

just come back from it (had to leave at abt 10 pm so i didn't catch any of the 'acts') but the mighty dave q turned up! no kidding!!!

Talked to him for a while. gave me a brazen hussies CD.

I'm the guy who's 'nasty to everyone' apparently (I took it as a compliment, of course) :)

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Thursday, 30 January 2003 23:33 (twenty-three years ago)

I didn't get there until 10pm because the bus from Oxford took 4 hours and then I had to walk from Baker Street because I couldn't figure out which tubes were running. It went downhill from there.

Except for the pinefox singing. That was good.

Graham (graham), Friday, 31 January 2003 00:42 (twenty-three years ago)

EVAH HAD THE FEELING YOU'VE BEEN CHEATED etc

hey kids i'm home and i'm pi$$ed, jolly good karaoke (and meeting of DAVE Q), large number of septics not withstanding

(I'm only on the interweb cos i've been complaining to islington council vis a vis the lack of ANY EFFING GRITTING ANYWHERE WHEN IT'S BEEN SNOWING SINCE 10 THIS MORNING)

also BLIMEY andrew farrell etc

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 31 January 2003 02:08 (twenty-three years ago)

also it really is fr*mme n*ppe v*nette in the words to "work it", ask tom, he sung it.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 31 January 2003 02:22 (twenty-three years ago)

I feel absolutely awful this morning, but I think that seeing Tom and Pete singing the Cheeky Song was worth every hangover I've ever had quite frankly.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 31 January 2003 09:11 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh, and ALAN TREWARTHA RAPPING!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 31 January 2003 09:12 (twenty-three years ago)

I feel like boiled shite.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 31 January 2003 09:49 (twenty-three years ago)

So...

Kate and I went to see Laika and didn't roll home until 2am; we missed the Q? Arse.

suzy (suzy), Friday, 31 January 2003 09:51 (twenty-three years ago)

imagine how those of us who were drinking bouze feel andrew...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 31 January 2003 09:53 (twenty-three years ago)

For the record:

Mark C: I want to break free and something else…
Jerry The Nipper: White Wedding and Complicated
Alang: I am (eminem) and say hello, wave goodbye
Me and Liz Dap lyn: Tainted Love
Me: God save the Queen (NB: sex pistols, not national anthem)
Tom: Work It
Ptee: Goldfinger
Tom & Pete: The Cheeky Song
Pinefox: an oasis song I think…

what have i missed?

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 31 January 2003 10:04 (twenty-three years ago)

Ptee: Some Girls, of course!

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 31 January 2003 10:06 (twenty-three years ago)

Andrew this is URGENT AND KEY - did you make it back across the sea to get into work this morning?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 31 January 2003 10:08 (twenty-three years ago)

Mark C Jerry and Alan all had one more song as well, and the Pinefox sang Some Might Say and Boys of Summer.

Either Alan or Mark C sang 500 miles.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 31 January 2003 10:11 (twenty-three years ago)

Andrew?

Lara (Lara), Friday, 31 January 2003 10:13 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes, I'm in work, working, and praying for death. Though I am sustained by remembering many grebt things from last night. Also by reflecting that however bad I feel, lixi probably feels worse.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 31 January 2003 10:16 (twenty-three years ago)

My wholehearted respect goes out to anyone who will jump on a plane from Dublin to London, stay out till one, then get back on the plane and fly home in time for work the next morning... all for one FAP.

Round of applause for Andrew.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 31 January 2003 10:27 (twenty-three years ago)

ALL IS RUIN

(yay Andrew Farrell who is a grebt bloke and booze catalyst oh dear)

Tom (Groke), Friday, 31 January 2003 10:28 (twenty-three years ago)

I also walked the circle line in yesterday's weather. PH34R my hardness. (Dan to thread)

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 31 January 2003 10:30 (twenty-three years ago)

and let's just say that I made it, very late, my journey made Graham's seem like a skip through a flower meadow.

Leave Uxbridge at twenty to six, arrive pub at half past ten. Hence nmy very very grouchy mood.

chris (chris), Friday, 31 January 2003 10:30 (twenty-three years ago)

It was all snowy when I got off the night bus near home at 1 a.m., gorgeous big wet flakes that were starting to lose their charm by the time I staggered to my front door.

FA(K)P was good. They didn't let me sing 'Son of a Preacher Man', though. Bah.

Ooh a big chunk of ice just fell off the building opposite. Probably damaged someone's car below, heh.

My head hurts. Curse that Cooper's Butt bitter. Theakston's have a lot to answer for.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Friday, 31 January 2003 10:48 (twenty-three years ago)

Andrew you are mad. Would any of you London folks go to similar lengths to go to a Dublin FAP?

Come to think of it we should all go to Glasgow and show them how it's done!

Lara (Lara), Friday, 31 January 2003 11:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I am doing.

But Chris that's not a real FAP. The boy Dastoor isn't even going to be there.

Lara (Lara), Friday, 31 January 2003 11:17 (twenty-three years ago)

Pete looks like his face has been blanked out in that karaoke pic because the entire incident is too SHAMEFUL.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 31 January 2003 11:21 (twenty-three years ago)

I should mention that Emma's top looks lovely.

Lara (Lara), Friday, 31 January 2003 11:22 (twenty-three years ago)

The great lost photo op was Emma's face during Alan's rendition of Say Hello, Wave Goodbye.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 31 January 2003 11:25 (twenty-three years ago)

grebt stuff!

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Friday, 31 January 2003 11:27 (twenty-three years ago)

Dave Q reminds me of Spider from Coronation Street!

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 31 January 2003 11:50 (twenty-three years ago)

Seeing and hearing JerryTheNipper's 'White Wedding' was possibly the best moment of my entire life. SO f@cking ROCK!! The growling and snarling during the intro was quite terrifying.

Pinefox's 'Some Might Say' wasn't far behind - especially the nifty 'air effects pedal' footwork.

Sorry that I didn't get to sing Maggie May with PF and that you didn't get to see my solo 'Blockbuster'. No doubt there will be another chance.

The DQ/Tom photo is immensely grebt indeed.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Friday, 31 January 2003 11:51 (twenty-three years ago)

I needed the rum and coke to stay alive!

I got no sleep all night. I think this is due to the coke. I am very busy today. OH NO!

Andrew was there! Yay!

Sarah (starry), Friday, 31 January 2003 11:52 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh and PTee's gravelly 'Some Girls'. Saucy!

Dr. C (Dr. C), Friday, 31 January 2003 11:53 (twenty-three years ago)

WHAT A PICTURE. dave q/tom i mean obv. Photoshop fodder all round. If i wasn't so busy writing a job application cover letter without my boss noticing...

Alan (Alan), Friday, 31 January 2003 11:57 (twenty-three years ago)

zemko (bob), Friday, 31 January 2003 12:37 (twenty-three years ago)

Beautiful.

If also ph34s0m3.

(Christ I look terrible in those photos. Resolution to stick to diet INTENSIFIED nb I haf already checked the calorific value of a pack of hula hoops and it is only 176 which is FINE!)

Sarah (starry), Friday, 31 January 2003 12:43 (twenty-three years ago)

Goldfinger is a lot shorter than I thought it would be. I didn't get round to doing any of my funny lyrics.

"This is a song for some girls out there".
Carsmile's God Save The Queen was awesome though.

Sarah, that isn't you int he photo's. Its a monkey someone photoshopped in.

Pete (Pete), Friday, 31 January 2003 12:43 (twenty-three years ago)

Pete, in that picture of you and Tom, I particularly like the way the TV platform blocks out yr eyes in an 'identities have been masked to protect the innocent' kind of way.

My head doesn't hurt any more, but I'm feeling a little strange. Maybe some nice couscous will help.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Friday, 31 January 2003 12:49 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh dear lord what beautiful pictures. WHY WASN'T I THERE? Well, there were many reasons.

Yeah, that Dave Q/Tom one is just...oh, the wonder.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 31 January 2003 13:40 (twenty-three years ago)

Karaoke FAPs are always fantastic. *sigh*

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 31 January 2003 13:58 (twenty-three years ago)

I am attempting once again to revive the Glasgow FAP, any smart arsed comments and I'll set Marcello on ye's awright?

Looks like you had a good time, sounds like a laf!

smee (smee), Friday, 31 January 2003 14:00 (twenty-three years ago)

The Crossroads DVD has kareoke Britney on it! I think we'd all better pray that there's not too much time before now and the next one when there's no one else at home, otherwise...

Graham (graham), Friday, 31 January 2003 14:00 (twenty-three years ago)

(and Chris, my bus went through Uxbridge around 7:30 to avoid the main roads, and I sitll got there earlier than you?)

Graham (graham), Friday, 31 January 2003 14:01 (twenty-three years ago)

at 7.30 I think I was sat on a train just outside West Harrow, Graham. It took me 2 hours to get from my office to Wembley Park, a journey that normally takes about 25 minutes.

chris (chris), Friday, 31 January 2003 14:07 (twenty-three years ago)

chris you couldve tried the Chiltern line from Harrow to Marylebone, then bus/tube to Euston Square/Warren St as an alternative maybe? that was gonna be my route (but replace Harrow with South Ruislip) - oh well if the situation ever arises again...

stevem (blueski), Friday, 31 January 2003 14:33 (twenty-three years ago)

I thought about it at the time, and thought "naaaa too much hassle" If only I'd known. It's how I'll be getting back tonight though, apparently the service is still only between Harrow and Uxbridge (a whole two trains for the whole thing!!)

chris (chris), Friday, 31 January 2003 14:37 (twenty-three years ago)

What a nice evening! Alan indeed rocks the mic, and has made me desperate to do "Lose Yourself" next time round. I did indeed do 500 Miles by the ProgClaimers, and also was the sucker who had to start the evening off with my muted Freddie Mercury impression. But hurrah! Fun!

It feels like I'm caught in the middle
That's when I realise

Graham (graham), Friday, 31 January 2003 15:51 (twenty-three years ago)

i love how dave q 's expression in stevem's pic sez (sarcasm) "oh ho! who knew my monkey would do that?"

the original picture no longer makes any sense

zemko (bob), Friday, 31 January 2003 15:56 (twenty-three years ago)

actually i think daveq is blissfully unaware of the gibbon as it attacks him frome behind whilst goading tom into some very disturbing beastial gropage

stevem (blueski), Friday, 31 January 2003 15:58 (twenty-three years ago)

Apologises for the photos of me, my glass eye seems all skew whiff.

Pete (Pete), Friday, 31 January 2003 16:06 (twenty-three years ago)

thanks simeon. 8 mile is me, i am him

Alan (Alan), Friday, 31 January 2003 16:07 (twenty-three years ago)

I was actually genuinely surprised to see Simeon... apologies if I was a little drunkenly over-enthusiastic in my "wraaaa, its YOU!" response.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 31 January 2003 16:10 (twenty-three years ago)

Those cheeky boys were the highlight of my night!

You lie like a dog.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 31 January 2003 16:12 (twenty-three years ago)

Care to elaborate Andrew? I don't remember too much.
Like who the fuck was that girl grinding herself off on my knee? I don't even recall her saying hello, how rude!

Simeon (Simeon), Friday, 31 January 2003 16:26 (twenty-three years ago)

dont complain, some of us have to pay for that

stevem (blueski), Friday, 31 January 2003 16:30 (twenty-three years ago)

christ, i *really* must get a haircut...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 31 January 2003 16:32 (twenty-three years ago)

Damn right hippy.

alext (alext), Friday, 31 January 2003 16:58 (twenty-three years ago)

Tom is turning into a Bob & Margaret character! (This is a good thing.)

nabisco (nabisco), Friday, 31 January 2003 17:39 (twenty-three years ago)

(I think the age-old question "Can a Famous Internet Journalist deliver a face-punch to someone in Chicago via email?" is about to be answered.)

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 31 January 2003 17:41 (twenty-three years ago)

christ, i *really* must get a haircut...

Why? So women will grind on your knees?

Anna (Anna), Friday, 31 January 2003 17:53 (twenty-three years ago)

These last three posts have immensely cheered up my day.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 31 January 2003 18:07 (twenty-three years ago)

oh poo, I missed something special, I feel in a great mood today. Next time there is a FAP of this magnitude, please imperically state that I must come along and stop being a wuss, ok?

jel -- (jel), Friday, 31 January 2003 18:21 (twenty-three years ago)

that goes for me as well

stevem (blueski), Friday, 31 January 2003 18:22 (twenty-three years ago)

I can't believe the Dave Q thing. He looks more like Steve Lamacq than cabbage.

N. (nickdastoor), Friday, 31 January 2003 19:35 (twenty-three years ago)

Trust me, neither of them look like Steve Lamacq.

suzy (suzy), Friday, 31 January 2003 19:40 (twenty-three years ago)

I meant he looks more like Steve Lamacq than he looks like a cabbage.

N. (nickdastoor), Friday, 31 January 2003 19:42 (twenty-three years ago)

But Dan, Bob and Margaret characters are terrifically cute:

Wha'? Is 'Dan' the Bob and Margaret version of Poochy?

N. (nickdastoor), Friday, 31 January 2003 19:47 (twenty-three years ago)

N. (nickdastoor), Friday, 31 January 2003 19:47 (twenty-three years ago)

http://www.nyheter.nu/kultur/gertjonnys.jpg

Chris V. (Chris V), Friday, 31 January 2003 19:52 (twenty-three years ago)

I sense much FITEing this upcoming week (Tom vs Nabisco, me vs N, Carsmile vs Chris...).

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 31 January 2003 19:53 (twenty-three years ago)

Dave Q looks really familiar!

jel -- (jel), Friday, 31 January 2003 20:03 (twenty-three years ago)

Kirk Hammett apparently was a drummer in Gert Jonny as well.

Chris V. (Chris V), Friday, 31 January 2003 20:04 (twenty-three years ago)

I look even worse than I felt (the tail end of flu - Sarah and I nearly had a coughing competition).

Great to meet our surprise guests, Andrew and Dave Q. And Jerry The Nipper was the night's karaoke star.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 31 January 2003 21:11 (twenty-three years ago)

The Pinefox in fashionista baseball regalia, and Martin in a tie, rock!

"I got no sleep all night. I think this is due to the coke."

For a second I thought London was turning all New York-y!

felicity (felicity), Saturday, 1 February 2003 10:06 (twenty-three years ago)

dave q, Saturday, 1 February 2003 10:22 (twenty-three years ago)

Bah, now I want to fly to London and do karaoke.

DV (dirtyvicar), Saturday, 1 February 2003 11:03 (twenty-three years ago)

Sorry I didn't make it. Was in "tube hell". Next time tho...

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Saturday, 1 February 2003 11:11 (twenty-three years ago)

Mary, many ILXers are most used to me in a tie. Most FAPs are in the week, so I turn up straight from work, and I have to wear a suit and tie. They sometimes go as far as pointing and laughing when I show in jeans and t-shirt. Similarly, old friends who are used to me in casual clothes have gone into fits of giggles when first seeing me in a suit. My theory is that I'm basically a funny-looking bloke and this is made fresh and activated anew when I look different from what people are used to.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 1 February 2003 12:39 (twenty-three years ago)

HA HA would you take a look at him *now*!

N. (nickdastoor), Saturday, 1 February 2003 12:46 (twenty-three years ago)

Fabulous stuff! And jel is right - dave q looks SO familiar

Jeff W, Saturday, 1 February 2003 13:00 (twenty-three years ago)

N. (nickdastoor), Saturday, 1 February 2003 13:13 (twenty-three years ago)

He is our dreams.

He's right.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Monday, 3 February 2003 10:24 (twenty-three years ago)

a picture from the tv series would be even more right, i think.

so, thursday - great stuff! dr. c - thanks for the cd - a lot of fantastic stuff on there. will respond properly when i've given it another listen. apologies if i spoke drunken nonsense to you - i only seem to get to talk to you when i've had 4 pints already.

stevie - white wedding was *amazing*. and what was the name of the david thomson book you recommended?

cheeky boys + work it - beyond classic.

pete = a hero for showing us the best route back from archway though that tower block maze. it wasn't until the next day that i realised that our rousing chorus of "pete baran's an angel", and my attempts to pun on "pete become heroes", indicated that we were a little inebriated.

i can't believe that no-one's suggested going back. surely this has to be done again, and done again soon?

toby (tsg20), Monday, 3 February 2003 14:31 (twenty-three years ago)

**apologies if i spoke drunken nonsense to you**

Uh? You spoke only wise words, Toby.

Yes yes yes - it must be done again. I HAVE to sing that duet with The Pinefox!

Dr. C (Dr. C), Monday, 3 February 2003 14:56 (twenty-three years ago)

Are we sticking with Rod?

the pinefox, Tuesday, 4 February 2003 19:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Toby - I'm not convinced in the sober light of day that the route through the Jasmine Allen with the few mis-steps I made was actually the BEST route - but I'll appreciate the loud carousing anyway.

Pete becomes heroes - he he.

bumpalompalomp

I suddenly had an urge on my way to work this morning - erm, none of you guys fancy the Pint Pot tonight do you?

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 5 August 2004 08:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh bladdy heck. Probably not given the heat situation, but...maybe. We shall see later.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Thursday, 5 August 2004 08:46 (twenty-one years ago)

the place is air conditioned!! it'd be cooler than your house (definitely cooler than mine which is boiling)

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 5 August 2004 08:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't fancy going to the Pint Pot EVER AGAIN.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 5 August 2004 08:47 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd rather an eye/pins interface scenario to be honest

Porkpie (porkpie), Thursday, 5 August 2004 08:48 (twenty-one years ago)

My house is nice and cool with the windows open. Also restful and not full of sparkly-topped middle-aged ladies whooping it up.

MDC has a point.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Thursday, 5 August 2004 08:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Can we find somewhere ELSE to do karaoke? With nice beer even?

Liz :x (Liz :x), Thursday, 5 August 2004 08:48 (twenty-one years ago)

i've found another place but no one went. i mean, if you're going to wait until you've found karaoke utopia you'll just be forever waiting.

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 5 August 2004 08:52 (twenty-one years ago)

God I was actually AT THIS.

Do I fancy this tonight - fuck, no.
(Actually, yes.....but band rehearsal takes priority)

Yr right, the pint pot is the v worst pub ever.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Thursday, 5 August 2004 08:53 (twenty-one years ago)

I have never sung anything embarrassing at karaoke, honest.
-- Tom (ebro...), January 29th, 2003 2:57 PM.

I no longer believe that this is true.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 5 August 2004 08:53 (twenty-one years ago)

also liz dude your house has some psycho lawyer passive aggressive woman living there. *shivers* middle-aged horny ladies please.

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 5 August 2004 08:55 (twenty-one years ago)

You also have a point.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Thursday, 5 August 2004 09:03 (twenty-one years ago)

I have, and I've also lost my urge now. nice one guys. i'm going home to play singstar tonight. have fun poking pins in your eyes.

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 5 August 2004 09:15 (twenty-one years ago)

i went to bed last night planning to revive this thread in the morning for the same reason ken has.

curiously, the alcohol from last night now out of my system i no longer feel Pint Pot desires, sorry Chu...

i've lost my urge before you posted anyhoo.

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 5 August 2004 09:33 (twenty-one years ago)

But we're going to keep searching for the karaoke utopia, yes?

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 5 August 2004 09:38 (twenty-one years ago)

it was in New York if you remember...

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Thursday, 5 August 2004 09:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Has anyone been to the Karaoke at Yo! Below on Poland St?

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Thursday, 5 August 2004 09:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Stevem, yes, you're absolutely right :(

No, Stevo, have you? Any good?

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 5 August 2004 09:57 (twenty-one years ago)

sounds like a nice place.. you can get HEAD MASSAGE there apparently.. and beer tap on table?? may be expensive though. and thusly dissed by £1.90 pint sam smiths devotees of ilx.

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 5 August 2004 09:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Beer tap on table is a recipe for alcoholic and financial disaster.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 5 August 2004 10:00 (twenty-one years ago)
