London Chix0rs: fancy swaping clothes?

As a part of the moving house purge I am throwing out lots of clothing: stuff that's in good condition and nice looking, but that I either got bored with/ had a bad time wearing/ bought and never altered/ changed shape.

I have put it all in a bag to give to a charity shop, but then I had another idea. We could all get together, bring all the stuff that fits the above description and steal one anothers' unwanted stuff and drink wine/ anything and go "it looks so much better on you!". Then give the leftovers to charity. We're all fairly different sizes and have different styles so it could work.

Alternatively: FREE CLOTHES, MY PLACE, SATURDAY.

Anna (Anna), Thursday, 29 January 2004 23:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, wait till I get back before you do this!!! I have some clothes which are so skinny that I may never be able to wear again. Even though I doubt any of your clothes would fit me, Anna, some other chiXors might.

The River Kate (kate), Thursday, 29 January 2004 23:50 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't think any of you are my shape, surprisingly. And I don't get rid of clothes until they fall apart anyway. Also I am not a chiXor. One way and another, perhaps this isn't for me...

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 30 January 2004 13:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Haha!! This sounds a great idea! But Anna I can't go through all my stuff between tonight and Saturday morning reasonably can we have a bit of preparation time first?

Sarah (starry), Friday, 30 January 2004 13:26 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah, i'll do this as well. with a little preparation.

this could be fun!

(and, if we were really coordinated, we could follow the clothes swap with wearing our new goodies to the pub/bar/club for the girl FAP that i haven't been organising)

colette (a2lette), Friday, 30 January 2004 13:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Sigh. If you're doing it this Saturday, save something for me, alright? Sigh.

The River Kate (kate), Friday, 30 January 2004 13:34 (twenty-two years ago)

no, no, we need more time. and i might be learning to knit tomorrow, anyway.

kate, when are you back? it seems like you've been gone for years!

colette (a2lette), Friday, 30 January 2004 13:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Bandwagon jumper... HAHAHAHA after I've finished my current knitted jumper I should so make another one with BANDWAGON emblazed across the front. Hahahahahha, that would be funny!!!*

*it is!!! no really!!

Sarah (starry), Friday, 30 January 2004 13:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Genius!

bandwagon jumper!! (starry), Friday, 30 January 2004 13:38 (twenty-two years ago)

I have been gone for years. I mean, erm, weeks. I get back in the UK on the 3rd February, but the day after I'm going to Northampton to see Sonic Boom and the day after that I'm going to my former housemate's book launch party, and oh god, a SOCIAL LIFE, when did I develop one of those?

The River Kate (kate), Friday, 30 January 2004 13:40 (twenty-two years ago)

i know, sarah, it makes me feel like a sheep.(no pun intended) but it's something i've been meaning to learn for a while and haven't gotten around to doing it. maybe you'll be able to give me hints and tips once i get good enough to ask for them!

colette (a2lette), Friday, 30 January 2004 13:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Hahahaha! Sheep! Knitting is just PRIME COMEDY MATERIAL! What do you want to make? I am making these, so as you can see I am not good enough to provide you with hints and tips! Just make sure you're holding needles correctly and don't get RSI (I can barely crochet anymore hence back to the old knitting).

Sarah (starry), Friday, 30 January 2004 13:48 (twenty-two years ago)

wow, this sounds like a great idea! Plenty of pics need to be taken though!!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 30 January 2004 13:49 (twenty-two years ago)

anna, do you mind holding on to your bags of treasure for a week or two? or is there not room for it at your newly-streamlined place?

colette (a2lette), Friday, 30 January 2004 13:50 (twenty-two years ago)

i was so hoping this was a stevem thread...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 30 January 2004 13:53 (twenty-two years ago)

How many days do I have left to swap clothes with Stevem before he chops all his hair off?

The River Kate (kate), Friday, 30 January 2004 13:54 (twenty-two years ago)

You two could just swap wigs!?!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 30 January 2004 14:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm in, with a sackful of stuff to boot.

(I think Anna might be wanting to do this on Sat to avoid a binliners-in-new-house situation. If so, Kate, I will eagle eye for purple/paisley items)

suzy (suzy), Friday, 30 January 2004 14:22 (twenty-two years ago)

well if it ends up being tomorrow, i can't do it. but if it's later, i'm totally in.

colette (a2lette), Friday, 30 January 2004 14:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Colette, you do realise that Anna's dresses may be a little short on you? (that's a good thing)(sorry)

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 30 January 2004 18:27 (twenty-two years ago)

I actually have some jeans and trousers and things that will probably never fit me again, but would fit someone skinny and tall. Like Colette. (I am NOT giving them to a short person who will hack off the bottom of the legs, cause I know how hard it is to find "vintage" jeans which haven't had this already happen to them.)

The River Kate (kate), Friday, 30 January 2004 18:47 (twenty-two years ago)

eww, only British people wear used clothes

and some unAmerican Americans

paulhw (paulhw), Friday, 30 January 2004 23:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Colette is already trying to offload her scarves on me - most generously i should add.

stevem (blueski), Saturday, 31 January 2004 00:23 (twenty-two years ago)

We'll be calling you Stevem Tyler soon if you don't watch out! ;-)

The River Kate (kate), Saturday, 31 January 2004 02:31 (twenty-two years ago)

I had to internet access yesterday (hell!). I'm fine with holding on to stuff for a while. I'm not moving very far, so it's no real problem. We should co-ordinate for a couple of weeks time. I used to do it with my friends in Sheffield. In fact I still have some of the clothes from then. Hurrah! Free clothes.

Anna (Anna), Saturday, 31 January 2004 11:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Pink, you should come down from Cambridge.

Anna (Anna), Saturday, 31 January 2004 11:52 (twenty-two years ago)

I should come down from Glasgow. My clothes are all horrid and need replaced - I bet flying to London and pinching other people's cast-offs would be cheaper than buying lots of new clothes. However the fact that all of my current clothes are horrible may preclude me from taking part...

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 31 January 2004 12:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Mine are horrible too, and hideously mis-shapen to hang lumpishly off my lardy form. In fact if I am the fattest person there I will have to cry off for shame, for shame. I'll be desperately running round the park whilst a solitary tear lingers on my cheek.

Sarah (starry), Sunday, 1 February 2004 19:05 (twenty-two years ago)

no, sarah you can come and laugh at the crappy tiny little square that i knit that took me ALL DAY on saturday. sigh.

i'm sure i can find some stuff to trade, although you have to keep in mind that this would be a lot more rewarding for you guys if we did it in kalamazoo, where i have a huge closet full of practically every item of clothing i've ever owned. stuff in london was either in the one original suitcase i moved over in, or what i could buy in the last 2 years.

too bad i couldn't get stevem to wear the scarf, i'm sure kate would want to trade something really good for that...

colette (a2lette), Monday, 2 February 2004 11:12 (twenty-two years ago)

ok, can we actually do this? i'm moving at the end of the month now.

could we actually do it on a sunday? seems like an entertaining thing for a sunday. how about the 22nd? pink, could you come down early for your birthday or anything?

p.s. i'll be bringing fancy bath products as well, since i have so so many and it would be nice if someone actually got to use them.

colette (a2lette), Friday, 6 February 2004 15:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Ooh fancy bath products huh? I love them! I'll be coming down (if we do) on my actual b/day which is a monday. I'm having a bit of a party on the Saturday night, so the Sunday is out really & I can't afford to come down to london twice! :-(

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 6 February 2004 15:34 (twenty-two years ago)

22nd is fine for me, but where?

Anna (Anna), Friday, 6 February 2004 15:57 (twenty-two years ago)

we can do my place, if that's easy enough for people. and you can just steal stuff that's laying around as well, since things should be nearly packed or pitched by then.

ms. panther, maybe we can all pick out a birthday goodie bag for you from everyone's stuff...especailly if you tell us your size and what you like!

colette (a2lette), Friday, 6 February 2004 16:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Presumably stevem will be there?

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 6 February 2004 16:54 (twenty-two years ago)

well, i'm not sure he would have clothes that we'd want to swap with, but maybe if he brings fancy bath products (or hair products!)...

colette (a2lette), Friday, 6 February 2004 17:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Well if you'd said hair products were part of the deal I'd have been there like a shot!

(I do actually have a couple of black bags worth of clothes I'm getting rid of, but I can't imagine the chix0rs would be interested)

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 6 February 2004 17:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Pink, come down. You can stay on the sofa somewhere (mine is free). Unless you want to have a special birthday morning thing, which is totally understanable.

Anna (Anna), Friday, 6 February 2004 17:08 (twenty-two years ago)

I can't think why I would be there - although it would be fun to eavesdrop on the conversations

stevem (blueski), Friday, 6 February 2004 17:26 (twenty-two years ago)

My idea sunk like the proverbial, then.

Enrique (Enrique), Friday, 6 February 2004 17:29 (twenty-two years ago)

knowing pink she'll want a special birthday morning, noon, and evening thing! ;)

teeny (teeny), Friday, 6 February 2004 17:34 (twenty-two years ago)

ok, so can people do sunday the 22nd? sarah? kate? suzy? anna?

colette (a2lette), Monday, 9 February 2004 10:44 (twenty-two years ago)

that works pour moi.

suzy (suzy), Monday, 9 February 2004 10:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Teeny you know me so well!! haha! Thanks for the offer Anna, that's really kind of you. I like Colette's idea actually, but that's just because I love pressies! Bath products roxor! Also, that means I have to meet up with some of you girlies on my b/day! woo!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 9 February 2004 10:54 (twenty-two years ago)

aw, it'll be all fun coming up with a surprise goodie bag for you! plus, it'll make me feel better about cleaning/clearing out my flat. i'll feel much less squeamish about getting rid of stuff if i know it's going to a good home...(i'm such a packrat. does anyone want like every issue of time out from the last 2 years?)

colette (a2lette), Monday, 9 February 2004 11:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Ach, burn 'em.

Enrique (Enrique), Monday, 9 February 2004 11:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Yay! thanks Colette!
I had a bit of a clear out this w/e, it feels so great. I need to go through clothes next, but I really don't fancy the idea of carrying a black sack full of clothes to London!! haha!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 9 February 2004 11:09 (twenty-two years ago)

perhaps some Lidl carrier bags instead?

stevem (blueski), Monday, 9 February 2004 11:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Why didn't I think of that? *slaps stevem*

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 9 February 2004 11:30 (twenty-two years ago)

So would you ladeez be around for a drink or two after work on Monday?

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 9 February 2004 11:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Glass Bar at last!

stevem (blueski), Monday, 9 February 2004 11:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Nope, my boy will be with me.

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 9 February 2004 11:49 (twenty-two years ago)

i don't have any plans that night, so i'll go wherever's convenient for you! (i work a little later on mondays-- out at 5:30 at the earliest)

colette (a2lette), Monday, 9 February 2004 11:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Hang on, I thought Monday you were having a proper FAP? Or not? I want to come, regardless.

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 9 February 2004 11:57 (twenty-two years ago)

as far as i know, we can give pinkpanther her birthday goodie bag even if there are boys there, so it isn't a girl-only thing. (correct me if i'm wrong)

colette (a2lette), Monday, 9 February 2004 12:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Boys will be invited too mark, if i actually decide to have one. (the only reason I asked the girlies on this thread is because I knew they'd all check it.)

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 9 February 2004 12:02 (twenty-two years ago)

(btw, of course I'd want you & your lady to be there Mark!!!)

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 9 February 2004 12:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh Mark if any of your old clothes include BOYS' LEVI'S full of holes etc. send that sack with Sarah...

suzy (suzy), Monday, 9 February 2004 12:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Sorry Suzy, they might have 6 or 7 years ago but no longer. I don't think I'm chucking out anything stylish enough for ILX chix0rs.

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 9 February 2004 12:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Or if you are Mark I may have already claimed it :)

I shall be there too!

sgs (sgs), Monday, 9 February 2004 14:00 (twenty-two years ago)

But where? We need a venue...

This is looking like being the girliest weekend ever for me. The night before I'm going to a sleep over. We're going to eat pizza, watch Dirty Dancing and play with make up. Although there will be more booze than when I was 12 and it has the great advantage of being at my friend Jacqui's flat. The swanky flat in Chelsea Harbour with river view and balcony that she shares with her loaded oil trader boyfriend. So very little like when I was 12 really.

Anna (Anna), Monday, 9 February 2004 15:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Miss Fielding i'm beginning to doubt your commitment to Sparkle Motion

stevem (blueski), Monday, 9 February 2004 15:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Does he share a name with a fictional boxer? If so kill me now.

Enrique (Enrique), Monday, 9 February 2004 15:33 (twenty-two years ago)

anna, that really does sound like the best w/e evah!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 9 February 2004 15:34 (twenty-two years ago)

*cough* Ronan *cough*

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 9 February 2004 15:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Your point being?

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 9 February 2004 15:44 (twenty-two years ago)

he's prolly caught irish flu from the dogs trip!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 9 February 2004 15:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh Mark if any of your old clothes include BOYS' LEVI'S full of holes etc. send that sack with Sarah...
-- suzy (theartskooldisk...), February 9th, 2004.
Sorry Suzy, they might have 6 or 7 years ago but no longer. I don't think I'm chucking out anything stylish enough for ILX chix0rs.
-- Markelby (boyincorduro...), February 9th, 2004.

such is the curse of taking up haberdashery in 1997.

ken c (ken c), Monday, 9 February 2004 15:46 (twenty-two years ago)

revive: for K's benefit!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 12:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Hooray! Thanks, Pink! Colette mentioned it last night, and I made a mental note to go, but she's supposed to text message me and tell me where it is (and also remind me of the Democrat Party thing) if she remembers through the alcoholic haze... Cause I have such sporadic access to email/web at the moment. (Though the people at my new web cafe love me so much they've started bringing me free tea, life is good!)

So are you coming down, then, Pink? EXCELLENT!!! HOORAAAAAYYY!!! Totally looking forward to it. Must go through my old skinny clothes and bring some of those along. Sigh.

the river fleet, Tuesday, 10 February 2004 12:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Where is the new pooter K?

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 12:36 (twenty-two years ago)

We have not hooked it up to the internet yet, cause if I had ILX at home, I would never do anything else, and HSA would never get another phone call.

However, I will set it up with just email soon. Possibly this evening or so.

the river fleet, Tuesday, 10 February 2004 12:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Hurray lady!!!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 12:39 (twenty-two years ago)

so, it's this sunday. i'm going to go through my wardrobe tonight. this could be fun!

colette (a2lette), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 12:04 (twenty-two years ago)

i just sent an email with directions to my place. kate, is your bloomsbury address supposed to kill my email, or was it just an accident?

colette (a2lette), Thursday, 19 February 2004 11:00 (twenty-two years ago)

AHHH I remember what I'm doing - I have a London Crafts meet so I'll be knitting in Fulham instead! I'll bring the SVH books along another time though (nb I might need reminding)...

Sarah (starry), Thursday, 19 February 2004 14:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Ha ha! I don't have a bloomsbury email address! That's a fake addy! Sorry. I did get your mail in my yahoo account though. Depends on the latest job thingey, (grrrrrrr) but I will let you know. Probably am in cause it's a Sunday, innit?

The River Kate (kate), Thursday, 19 February 2004 14:46 (twenty-two years ago)

yep, it's sunday. you and sarah both have to come because there's lots of tall girl trousers that need someone tall to wear them.

(no offense anna, if you can sew or whatever, you're welcome to them!)

colette (a2lette), Thursday, 19 February 2004 15:42 (twenty-two years ago)

and that was evil, kate! i got the strangest email back about it, not just something that said the user didn't exist.

colette (a2lette), Thursday, 19 February 2004 16:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey, I even have a sewing machine.

Anna (Anna), Thursday, 19 February 2004 17:24 (twenty-two years ago)

pictures please (not of the changing clothes of course)

teeny (teeny), Thursday, 19 February 2004 17:33 (twenty-two years ago)

although that would be sexy sexy.

teeny (teeny), Thursday, 19 February 2004 17:33 (twenty-two years ago)

I shall send my dig-it-all camera along with sgs.

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 19 February 2004 17:36 (twenty-two years ago)

How weird! Someone must send me angry spammail or something to the real domain behind that account! Wonder what would happen if I sent them something...

The River Kate (kate), Thursday, 19 February 2004 18:12 (twenty-two years ago)

i could forward you the message i got, except the entire LSE server appears to be dead, and i can't get any of my mail.

how crap is that?

what are we supposed to be taking pictures of, by the way? like a swapped fashion show at the end?

colette (a2lette), Friday, 20 February 2004 11:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Why your purdy selves of course!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 20 February 2004 12:23 (twenty-two years ago)

hey, pink, what should we save for you? anything in particular you'd like or gravitate towards if you were there? should we know your sizes, or does someone that'll be there already know all that?

colette (a2lette), Friday, 20 February 2004 12:30 (twenty-two years ago)

i don't want anything inparticular, just anything that you can't match up, bring along! I'm only short so I guess the trousers are out! haha! I like the sound of your bath stuff!!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 20 February 2004 12:33 (twenty-two years ago)

cool, i'll see what we can do! sadly, starry sarah can't come, so there will probably not be any sweet valley high books in the goody bag...

colette (a2lette), Friday, 20 February 2004 12:47 (twenty-two years ago)

ooh, girls that are going-- should we keep this 'exclusive', or can i ask a few girls that live near me and might have some cool stuff to bring?

colette (a2lette), Friday, 20 February 2004 12:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Why the hell not? More the merrier. Pink I'm only 5'2'", so my stuff might fit. It depends on your definition of short.

Anna (Anna), Friday, 20 February 2004 13:48 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm 5'3, so what's an inch amongst friends eh?!! Anna, will you be able to come out to play on Monday nite?

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 20 February 2004 13:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Not sure Pink, finances are dire. Need to check bank balance/ sell some records.

Anna (Anna), Friday, 20 February 2004 13:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh no! I could stretch to buying you a glass of red wine! I'd love to say hello!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 20 February 2004 13:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Aw, I can't make you do that on your birthday. I'll look into the options.

Anna (Anna), Friday, 20 February 2004 13:56 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd rather do that than you not come at all Anna! *fingers crossed*

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 20 February 2004 13:57 (twenty-two years ago)

i can buy you a glass of wine on monday, anna!

hear my vow here: i'm buying three drinks and three drinks only on monday night, because i will be really poor next month because i've got to pay a stupid deposit for a new flat-- one for me, one for anna, and one for pinkpanther's birthday! HOLD ME TO THIS!

colette (a2lette), Friday, 20 February 2004 13:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, I'll buy you a drink too Anna - it'd be such a shame if you couldn't make it. I'm feeling flush for some reason, despite having agreed to shell out FIFTY QUID to be one of the match sponsors for tomorrow's match against Bedfont. I think it's because I just paid off my credit card bill. Paradoxical but true.

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 20 February 2004 13:59 (twenty-two years ago)

x-post - Colette will be praying on poor weak-willed men to support the bulk of her wine-drinking habit ;)

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 20 February 2004 14:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Colette, I'd rather you saved the drink you're gonna buy me for yourself, so that you can stay out longer innit!

Mark sweetie, any chance you could bring your digicam, as we have a broken one & one which we don't appear to have the right lead for.

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 20 February 2004 14:02 (twenty-two years ago)

I might have some shitty, low paid work you can do Anna if you fancy researching an article on tedious student union elections.

Pete (Pete), Friday, 20 February 2004 14:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes, yes, yes. No problem at all. Will work for food and debt reduction. (I am actually writing fashion copy for a friend of a friend in return for a new top at the moment).

Anna (Anna), Friday, 20 February 2004 14:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Hooray!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 20 February 2004 14:09 (twenty-two years ago)

oh, i'll stay out even without drinks. i managed to survive a straight-edge social life until i moved to england, it's no problem. so i'm buying you a drink, and you'll like it!

and mark, who are these weak-willed men, and where can i find them?

colette (a2lette), Friday, 20 February 2004 14:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Haha! Thanks. I hope I don't get lost on the way!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 20 February 2004 14:13 (twenty-two years ago)

I am astonishingly weak-willed, as anyone who has ever tried to get me to indulge in unwise after-hours mentalism knows. Yes, Anna, I am looking at you.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 20 February 2004 15:01 (twenty-two years ago)

yay!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 20 February 2004 15:05 (twenty-two years ago)

If you are talking about after hours bouze you MUST call her by her proper name (a la The Queen Of Ruin).

Pete (Pete), Friday, 20 February 2004 15:25 (twenty-two years ago)

ha, i like pinkpanther giving a 'yay' for matt dc admitting that he's weak willed.

colette (a2lette), Friday, 20 February 2004 15:27 (twenty-two years ago)

See? Why am I broke? I'm a dead cert when it comes to pissed girl about London type columns.

Anna (Anna), Friday, 20 February 2004 15:29 (twenty-two years ago)

So, anyway. What clothes are people bringing? I'm excited now.

Anna (Anna), Friday, 20 February 2004 15:31 (twenty-two years ago)

i've got several skirts, loads of tops, several jumpers and some trousers.

this is a good idea because i love each item, and couldn't bear to throw them away, but if i give them to one of you, it'll be like they're going to a good home!

colette (a2lette), Friday, 20 February 2004 15:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Sarah is bringing some of my old clobber - honestly, there'll be nothing there you want.

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 20 February 2004 15:39 (twenty-two years ago)

ooh skirts! What sort colette? I need to be kept up to date on the clothes changing hands!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 20 February 2004 15:40 (twenty-two years ago)

i think a red linen one, and i've put the red ultrasuede one in the 'maybe, i'll try it on for the other girls and see if i can still get away with it' pile.

sad news: i don't have internet at my house. so no play by play updates.

but we could send you texts or something...

colette (a2lette), Friday, 20 February 2004 15:51 (twenty-two years ago)

I have a purple linen skirt with a beaded trim in my pile. What size are you Pink? I have one pink top that would suit your posting personality (It's pink and glittery, but on the tasteful side of girlie). I have worn it exactly twice. Pink is not really my colour.

Anna (Anna), Friday, 20 February 2004 15:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Pretty average really, so any size from say 10-14 I guess! Tops needsto be roomy around the chest if you get what I mean! haha!

Texts sounds cool colette!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 20 February 2004 16:05 (twenty-two years ago)

If I had got The Job I Wanted, I'd be buying you all drinks. But unfortunately it looks like I didn't get, so I'll be really poor. But the good news is, I'm now around all day on Monday so I can meet you for shopping or lunch or whatever, Pink!

The River Kate (kate), Friday, 20 February 2004 18:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Sorry about loss of job, Kate! They were bastards not to see your brill self.

Clothes trade? You must keep this up til I can return next year, fingers crossed.

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Friday, 20 February 2004 19:15 (twenty-two years ago)

haha, I mentioned to Starry yesterday that I considered asking to come, but wasn't entirely sure that some middle aged bloke showing up and saying "Want to change clothes with me darlin'?" to a bunch of young women, preferably in Pete's Special Voice, would really be what you are after, so I'm not coming (obviously).

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 20 February 2004 19:26 (twenty-two years ago)

(Starry, read your work email, lately? Did the box ever reach you?)

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Friday, 20 February 2004 20:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Kate, I forgot to mention this earlier but bloomsbury.co.uk is the domain for Bloomsbury the publishers. I imagine the admin mail C. got back was probably to tell her that no staffer there is 'confused'.

suzy (suzy), Friday, 20 February 2004 20:54 (twenty-two years ago)

I thought the publishers was Bloomsbury.com - cause there sure is no website at bloomsbury.co.uk - I checked to make sure no one would get my flamemail!

I'm sure lots of staffers at Bloomsbury are confused.

The River Kate (kate), Saturday, 21 February 2004 10:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh no Kate, that sucks! Not sure what time we'll hit London, but I'll text you when we're on the train! *hugs* Come down to my party! Just kinda waiting for it to start!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Saturday, 21 February 2004 19:19 (twenty-two years ago)

(bump. this was very successful)

suzy (suzy), Sunday, 22 February 2004 23:25 (twenty-two years ago)

details please!

toby (tsg20), Monday, 23 February 2004 06:59 (twenty-two years ago)

it was so much fun!

as people were trickling in, we had drinks and talked about boys and shoes.

then, each girl would unload her bag of goodies, tell us a little about the garment, and another girl would say 'ooh! can i try it?'

then when each bag was done we'd try the new stuff on, and if it fit, throw it in our new pile.

and throughout, we would say 'oh, that is SO pinkpanther' even though none of us have met her!

and supposedly, we're all supposed to wear one of our new outfits to the FAP tonight. although i'm having second thoughts about the sparkly dress. it's darn cold outside, and i don't think it's very warm at all...

colette (a2lette), Monday, 23 February 2004 10:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Who turned up in the end?

(I was about to post a stirring "they all talked about you behind your back, Toby", but the moment has been lost)

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 23 February 2004 10:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Grrrr, if I have to wear ridiculously formal clothes, then you have to wear ridiculously formal clothes! If my bosoms have to freeze their nipples off in the bappyshirt, then your legs and arms and shoulders have to freeze, too! Humph!

(Alternately, we could all just turn up dressed as Mark C.)

The River Kate (kate), Monday, 23 February 2004 10:25 (twenty-two years ago)

With shaven heads. That's taking hairdressing too far.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Monday, 23 February 2004 10:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Another inch off my mullet, and this would be a shaved head. Sigh.

The River Kate (kate), Monday, 23 February 2004 10:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Colette got an awesome indigo sparkly blue dress from the Kate pile, a good geometric skirt from my pile, a purple top with sparkles that she probably still has not taken off, and Sarah got one complete, matching librarian outfit (also from my pile). Anna got a lot of stuff from my pile (leatherette skirt, purple skirt, Chinese top, rah-rah dress etc), but then we are both quite small.

I got: a good handbag, a black v-neck jumper, a Margo Tenenbaum dress, two string vests, a side-tie top, a strange long-sleeved teeshirt, and a few other things.

suzy (suzy), Monday, 23 February 2004 10:49 (twenty-two years ago)

and you have to wear one of the string vests tonight, since using kate's reasoning, i'm going to be freezing tonight.

colette (a2lette), Monday, 23 February 2004 11:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Haha, you may have swapped clothes, but I made clothes!!! (Okay I still have the sleeves to finish off and the damn neckband but after that I have a fully paid up BABY JUMPER awwwwwwwww)!

I have also started on an ARM WARMER after deciding they were the next big thing on TOTP Saturday.

Sarah (starry), Monday, 23 February 2004 11:30 (twenty-two years ago)

ooh, i really want arm warmers! i looked around the holidays, but didn't find anything i liked, and finally settled on my long, pink, (cheap) cashmere gloves that i love love.

colette (a2lette), Monday, 23 February 2004 11:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Well actually it's more of a toddler jumper innit but who's picky? (Me).

Arm warmers = super easy, you crochet round and round and round and make a hole for the thumb - bish bash bosh you haf an arm warmer. I also have to finish my TIE. Doing long things in double crochet though is REALLY SLOW AND DULL.

Sarah (starry), Monday, 23 February 2004 11:33 (twenty-two years ago)

crochet= beyond my abilities.

i could maybe get around to cutting the ends off some socks, but it's just not the same.

colette (a2lette), Monday, 23 February 2004 11:49 (twenty-two years ago)

wow this sounds so fun! I've been working on arm warmers forever off and on using four needles...I've been dropping a row of purl in every so often for sort of this random lines effect, I hope it doesn't look totally retarded.

teeny (teeny), Monday, 23 February 2004 13:25 (twenty-two years ago)

it was really fun! although i just realised that more than half of the things that i took are sparkly or glittery. which is a little strange...

colette (a2lette), Monday, 23 February 2004 13:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Colette are you a drag queen? But sparkly things are good in moderation.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Monday, 23 February 2004 13:26 (twenty-two years ago)

DPNs = utterly menko, although I do want to figure out how to use them at some point. Random lines effect sounds good too - in crochet you can do this by doing the front-post treble stitch (that would be front post *double* for you yanks though, iirc...!) which creates a rather smashing extremely straight ridge on one side of the fabric.

I learnt it for THE DOG JUMPER (which have still not started yet but oh well)

Sarah (starry), Monday, 23 February 2004 13:27 (twenty-two years ago)

DPOs are mental, that's what's great about them! they look totally impressive and dangerous!

teeny (teeny), Monday, 23 February 2004 13:31 (twenty-two years ago)

generally, it was subtle sparkle (a vest top with two rows of sequins at the neck, a blazer with some silver threads and the infamous blue and silver sparkle dress)

i think the only one that is drag queen appropriate is the dress. it's pretty, and everyone liked it, but i'm not sure it's me. i don't remember the last time i wore dark blue (and gave my last dark blue jumper to suzy yesterday) and it's kind of lacy-crochet thing, which is really pretty but also very girly.

colette (a2lette), Monday, 23 February 2004 13:31 (twenty-two years ago)

This was an excellent idea, Anna. I am very pleased with my new acquisitions, and am looking librarian-tastic today :)

sgs (sgs), Monday, 23 February 2004 13:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Aye, but I need some idiots guide on how to hold them without dropping everything everwhere. They seem to be the 733+35+ way to make s0xx0rs (OHMIGOD I COULD CROCHET A SOXBRA).

Sarah (starry), Monday, 23 February 2004 13:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Right now I am wearing a black top from Colette (I have a top from Target! This seems impossibly trans-antlantic glam to me), jeans and a red chinese shirt-type thing from Suzy.

Anna (Anna), Monday, 23 February 2004 15:08 (twenty-two years ago)

It's so not fair. The sparkley dress never looked good on me, even when I was skinny. But it looks super-hot-amazing on Colette. I wore Colette's whole outfit (apart from the evil boots from hell) and just got laughed up for my inability to walk down stairs. Sigh,

The River Kate (kate), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 01:26 (twenty-two years ago)

hey, nobody laughed at you coming down the stairs, and i was sitting next to you when several people told you how hot you looked in my clothes. and anna and sarah looked great as well. i wonder if pinkpanther is wearing the 'i dream of jeannie' shirt today...

and i think i'll have to get static-guard spray before i wear that dress again...

colette (a2lette), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 16:00 (twenty-two years ago)

one year passes...
Hey all y'all...

So I've been thinking about reviving this thread since I am too poor to shop in the June sales this year and it's been getting me down that I have no new* clothes to wear. I've been thinking of doing another wardrobe purge--some stuff I decided to keep a year ago I now just don't wear, or it doesn't fit, or any of the other reasons that Anna initially listed. I'm not sure what all I would be purging since I haven't had a dig through everything yet. Is anyone else up for doing this again? Maybe next weekend? (Or any other time I can afford a travelcard?) Holla back.

*meaning different

sgs (sgs), Friday, 1 July 2005 12:53 (twenty-one years ago)

How weird - I am wearing your jeans right now, Sarah!

Next weekend there is too much craziness with the Ned visitation and Trig Brother and gig and all.

MIS Information (kate), Friday, 1 July 2005 12:57 (twenty-one years ago)

I would be quite up for this! I was going through my ironing pile realising the reason the pile was so big was because there are loads of clothes I can't be bothered to iron cos I know I probably won't wear them

Vicky (Vicky), Friday, 1 July 2005 13:03 (twenty-one years ago)

That would be fun, esp. as I am moving again.

Anna (Anna), Friday, 1 July 2005 13:09 (twenty-one years ago)

I still wear loads of things from last time. Particular favourites include SGS's green stripey shirt and Suzy's ra ra dress, chinese top and sleeveless polo.

Anna (Anna), Friday, 1 July 2005 13:11 (twenty-one years ago)

i'd be up for it again. was planning on going through my clothes in the next week and taking a load to the charity shop, so it's good timing!

colette (a2lette), Friday, 1 July 2005 14:34 (twenty-one years ago)

sounds good!

lauren (laurenp), Friday, 1 July 2005 15:14 (twenty-one years ago)

I guess ILXB01z only have two or three ratty pairs of [anything] and wouldn't have any desire to do something similar?

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 1 July 2005 16:15 (twenty-one years ago)

im not swapping my clothes mate

charltonlido (gareth), Friday, 1 July 2005 16:20 (twenty-one years ago)

yEAH, THEY'RE ALL BROWN ANYWAY.

MIS Information (kate), Friday, 1 July 2005 16:21 (twenty-one years ago)

i'd theoretically be up for it, mark, but i may have been too ruthless with my wardrobe when i moved to have anything spare. i'll take a look, though.
