I'm staying in, trying to fend off the advance of a sore throat, so I can go out tomorrow night. It's barely past ten here and I'm just sitting here listening to Automatic by Jesus and Mary Chain and eating an orange.

Gear! (Gear!), Saturday, 29 May 2004 04:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, I'm here at work at the TIME Newsdesk ..all night vampire shift (8pm to 8am)...waiting for my boss to fuckin' split so I can play some music and/or watch something other than CNN/MSNBC.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 29 May 2004 04:27 (twenty-two years ago)

anything interesting going on in the world?

Gear! (Gear!), Saturday, 29 May 2004 04:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Weekend terror warnings. Memorial Day memorializing. Michael Jackson crap. Iraq mess. The usual.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 29 May 2004 04:31 (twenty-two years ago)

IM'ed with Chris, took a nap, watched part of Miller's Crossing, IM'ed with Chris some more with Miller's Crossing on in the background, am now downloading torrents of a 1978 Swedish punk documentary and a 3-CD set of Splodgenessabounds mp3s.

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Saturday, 29 May 2004 04:41 (twenty-two years ago)

And now I'm going to sleep.

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Saturday, 29 May 2004 04:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah man... must have the same bug... been drinking grapefruit juice and listening to 21 SINGLES all day.

Gingerbread (Gingerbread), Saturday, 29 May 2004 04:46 (twenty-two years ago)

OKCupid.com

I hate myself.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Saturday, 29 May 2004 05:32 (twenty-two years ago)

hey at least you can load that thread, my computer crashed if it tries to open one of those big mofos. No insulting Dave Matthews for me, in other words.

Gear! (Gear!), Saturday, 29 May 2004 05:43 (twenty-two years ago)

I guess it would be both embarrassing and bad form to start another thread about it. Euuugh.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Saturday, 29 May 2004 05:44 (twenty-two years ago)

What time is it there?

Gear! (Gear!), Saturday, 29 May 2004 05:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Like 3 am?

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Saturday, 29 May 2004 05:50 (twenty-two years ago)

it's only about midnight here. Not even. How awful.

Gear! (Gear!), Saturday, 29 May 2004 05:52 (twenty-two years ago)

I have to work at 7:45.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Saturday, 29 May 2004 05:54 (twenty-two years ago)

It's about 2:54 AM here. The boss left. Now listening to "Run for Your Life" by ye olde Beatles and wondering why it has to be so damn cold in this office.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 29 May 2004 05:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Dude -- I was just listening to that. I haven't listened to that album in yonks.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Saturday, 29 May 2004 05:55 (twenty-two years ago)

I just finished listening to Gaucho by Steely Dan. Now I feel like some Cuervo Gold.

Gear! (Gear!), Saturday, 29 May 2004 05:56 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm going to bed. I was supposed to learn basslines tonight. Didn't do a fucking one. Ate two peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, though.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Saturday, 29 May 2004 05:57 (twenty-two years ago)

I wonder if I should go out and get a hot dog...

Bryan (Bryan), Saturday, 29 May 2004 05:57 (twenty-two years ago)

A stray cat wandered onto our property tonight, we're taking care of it. Watched Basic Instinct on Encore, now I'm watching Letterman and thumbing through an issue of the Source. Later I'll read some more of Bockris' Warhol Biography. Livin' large....

AaronHz (AaronHz), Saturday, 29 May 2004 06:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Am now listening to "I Wanna Be Adored" by the Stone Roses and wishing it was 1989 again.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 29 May 2004 06:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Just listened to that album the other day for the first time in a whilt, was really digging "Bye Bye Badman". in 1989 I was 9 and didn't know who the SR were.

AaronHz (AaronHz), Saturday, 29 May 2004 06:15 (twenty-two years ago)

You were NINE???? Fuckaduck! I was twenty-two.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 29 May 2004 06:17 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll be 24 next month you old hag.

AaronHz (AaronHz), Saturday, 29 May 2004 06:20 (twenty-two years ago)

I have mix-tapes older than you.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 29 May 2004 06:22 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll bet you do. I still get carded for booze and smokes! hahahaha...

AaronHz (AaronHz), Saturday, 29 May 2004 06:25 (twenty-two years ago)

I am still occaissionally carded for booze....which makes me want to hug the person behind the cash register.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 29 May 2004 06:28 (twenty-two years ago)

I would too if I was pushin 40 mwahahahaha

AaronHz (AaronHz), Saturday, 29 May 2004 06:40 (twenty-two years ago)

is 36 pushing 40? I'd say I'm worryingly in spitting distance of 40, but not yet pushing it.

But hey, at least I lived through better eras of music than your acne-speckled ass.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 29 May 2004 06:43 (twenty-two years ago)

So here's a question. If I'm annoyed by people my age and get along better with people in their 30s and 40s NOW, do you think I'll still be annoyed by people my age when I'm your age and have to hang out with people in their 50s and 60s?

ticktockticktockticktock.........

I've never had acne, on my face or my ass. But you're right, current music mostly sucks.

AaronHz (AaronHz), Saturday, 29 May 2004 06:46 (twenty-two years ago)

I dunno, but I'm sure there are some like-minded individuals of your own age group out there that you haven't discovered yet.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 29 May 2004 06:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh I've discovered like minded individuals, we can't stand each other. I don't like to hang out with people even remotely like me, that's the problem.
I didn't expect this to turn into a therapy session, HA!

AaronHz (AaronHz), Saturday, 29 May 2004 06:53 (twenty-two years ago)

"But hey, at least I lived through better eras of music than your acne-speckled ass."

so true! i've realized that most of the stuff in my collection that i truly cherish come from no later than the early 90's. with a few exceptions.

if it makes ya feel better, I DO have acne.

latebloomer (latebloomer), Saturday, 29 May 2004 06:57 (twenty-two years ago)

five months pass...
Revive. EXTREMELY boring night tonight, so I'm staving that off by catching up with some folks in the area and listening to music and etc. First time in a long time I've felt so dull on a Friday.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 20 November 2004 02:39 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm still at work. Watching lots of "+0mmy 1ee" footage for le show. Tonight will be family time, with the parents and brother visiting right before my birthday, ushering me out of my twenties. maybe I'll take my brother out for drinks later or something. Maybe we'll go to Amoeba. Maybe i'll go to get a strip-ed shirt.

Riot Gear! (Gear!), Saturday, 20 November 2004 02:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Dare to dream, sir. And happy birthday. Free next Wednesday?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 20 November 2004 02:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I suggest you guys check out the karate chimp

Magic City (ano ano), Saturday, 20 November 2004 02:59 (twenty-one years ago)

I just finished watching "Pimp My Ride." I'm sad there's not another episode on next, since now I *really* have no plans.

Kenan (kenan), Saturday, 20 November 2004 03:45 (twenty-one years ago)

I think I'm working late next Wednesday, perhaps punishment for having Thursday and Friday off. haw, I can't even celebrate much on Tuesday for the big day, cuz I have to work the next day.

Riot Gear! (Gear!), Saturday, 20 November 2004 03:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Life is fuckin' pain, dude. And we all feel yours.

Kenan (kenan), Saturday, 20 November 2004 03:57 (twenty-one years ago)

i fully intended to go out tonight, but I was out two nights in a row, so now I'm home and staying here. later, I might get high and watch vh1 classic.

kyle (akmonday), Saturday, 20 November 2004 03:59 (twenty-one years ago)

i am sitting here listening to World of Echo about to eat my wife's lunch leftovers while she galavants at fancy pants parties for her work. i may go out to some noise show with gygax, but that's not for another 2hrs and i have no car and am getting lazier by the minute

JaXoN (JasonD), Saturday, 20 November 2004 04:10 (twenty-one years ago)

I should come over and smoke all your pot again. but I'm in my pajamas on the other side of the bay and about to fall asleep from boredom

kyle (akmonday), Saturday, 20 November 2004 04:11 (twenty-one years ago)

don't eat all the liquorice again this time

JaXoN (JasonD), Saturday, 20 November 2004 04:16 (twenty-one years ago)

You damned Bay Area hippies.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 20 November 2004 04:19 (twenty-one years ago)

omg, i'm such a a fucking retard. i stuck my food in the microwave for two consecutive minute stints and it was even the least bit warm and then i realized i had been using the kitchen timer instead of the cook!!

JaXoN (JasonD), Saturday, 20 November 2004 04:20 (twenty-one years ago)

look who's talking longhair!

JaXoN (JasonD), Saturday, 20 November 2004 04:21 (twenty-one years ago)

I have eaten a bunch of impromptu tacos and watched two episodes of Homicide and had a minor argument with my wife about a bee I found in the sink. And it's only 8:30! Great!

And I have a disgusting cold.

adam... (nordicskilla), Saturday, 20 November 2004 04:23 (twenty-one years ago)

I want to get high too!

adam... (nordicskilla), Saturday, 20 November 2004 04:24 (twenty-one years ago)

I made a salad out of mustard greens, goat cheese, roasted onions, and steak tips. I ate more than a pound of it. Now I've got to go out to a ghey bar with an annoying girl who's throwing herself a birthday party, and I feel really fat and unlovely.

Remy (x Jeremy), Saturday, 20 November 2004 04:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, I'm back at work (as I am virtually every Friday night) for the overnight. The managing editor left early. My boss is away. It's very quiet. Mercifully no breaking news (as yet). Work is dribbling in in drips and drabs, but lots of downtime (which is nice, as ILX is still humming along). If things really slow down, I have AQUA TEEN HUNGER FORCE VOLUME 3 on dvd and Hugh Cornwell's autobiography, A Multitiude of Sins, and some freelance writing to do. Thrills.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 20 November 2004 04:25 (twenty-one years ago)

how in the world can you argue about a bee in a sink?

kyle (akmonday), Saturday, 20 November 2004 04:36 (twenty-one years ago)

adam, i wanna know what the squabble was over the bee in the sink. that sounds facinating

xpost

JaXoN (JasonD), Saturday, 20 November 2004 04:39 (twenty-one years ago)

MY MOUTH IS ON FIYAH!! MY FOREHEAD IS SWEATING!!

JaXoN (JasonD), Saturday, 20 November 2004 04:41 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll be this won't turn out to be as interesting as it should be

kyle (akmonday), Saturday, 20 November 2004 04:41 (twenty-one years ago)

look who's talking longhair!

Goddamned beardy FREAK

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 20 November 2004 04:43 (twenty-one years ago)

I wanted to cross dress tonight. Instead I'm working on a paper.

Leeeter van den Hoogenband (Leee), Saturday, 20 November 2004 04:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Remy, that sounds like an awesome salad. Goat cheese is some killer shit.

I am having a glass of red wine. I feel almost like I'm doing something. (But I'm not.)

Kenan (kenan), Saturday, 20 November 2004 04:43 (twenty-one years ago)

I wanted to cross dress tonight. Instead I'm working on a paper.

Why not both? Tight little panties make *everything* more fun!

Kenan (kenan), Saturday, 20 November 2004 04:44 (twenty-one years ago)

I wanted to cross dress tonight. Instead I'm working on a paper.

They're not mutually exclusive.

Oh xpost!

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 20 November 2004 04:44 (twenty-one years ago)

I had some goat cheese with crackers earlier, most delicious.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 20 November 2004 04:45 (twenty-one years ago)

You guys are genius!

Leeeter van den Hoogenband (Leee), Saturday, 20 November 2004 04:45 (twenty-one years ago)

I hate required courses. Some things should not be taught in school. Learning should happen elsewhere.

youn, Saturday, 20 November 2004 04:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Youn is very wise (OH LANGUAGE COURSES I HATE YOU).

Hey, Youn, free next Wednesday for movies and merriment with Di and others?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 20 November 2004 04:48 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm heating up some lentil soup. The Wizard of Oz is on TBS. My friend Kristian is accompanying Vaginal Davis for Jerome Kern night at Bricktops, but I just don't feel like driving to West Hollywood.

Jeremy fat? Haw haw, that's a laugh.

Titsy Borgnine, ILX Retirement Home (Arthur), Saturday, 20 November 2004 04:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Now I am watching a video by Jeffrey Zeldman explaining a new CSS technique. I don't quite know why this required a video. But hey, video!

http://www.happycog.com/mov/we1.mov

Kenan (kenan), Saturday, 20 November 2004 04:49 (twenty-one years ago)

nah, I've gained a bit of weight since I got kicked out of the gym a month ago for 'racism' -- calling the fuckhead director 'ineffectual shithead pakistani motherfucker.' after he told me he'd have me arrested for faking my ID, and that I was a liar and a scam-artist. Note: my ID wasn't faked.

Remy (x Jeremy), Saturday, 20 November 2004 04:50 (twenty-one years ago)

I have to work until 8, but I'd be up for doing stuff after that. We need to take Di to Crystal Cove or Laguna beach.

youn, Saturday, 20 November 2004 04:52 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah well i just ate vanilla bean breyers with homeade peanut butter chocolate chip cookie crumbles you stupid fucks, what now

John (jdahlem), Saturday, 20 November 2004 04:53 (twenty-one years ago)

A fine idea! Should we try for Crystal Cove/Laguna on Wednesday, though, or on the weekend if you'll be free then during the day? I have no problem with people heading down my direction on Saturday or something! Hm, hm, more on this via e-mail.

Oh, as long as I'm posting this, I've invited Arthur and Remy down here tomorrow night to hang around/have some drinks/etc. -- feel free to join in, Youn!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 20 November 2004 04:55 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm finally home from work(left at 8pm) and eating a leftover fajita!

kingfish (Kingfish), Saturday, 20 November 2004 05:01 (twenty-one years ago)

JaXoN (JasonD), Saturday, 20 November 2004 05:10 (twenty-one years ago)

and i got a 40 of pbr, and my old editor wants me to interview a band over email for a piece due in 3 days!

kingfish (Kingfish), Saturday, 20 November 2004 05:13 (twenty-one years ago)

omg, i'm actually watching that zeldman video.

JaXoN (JasonD), Saturday, 20 November 2004 05:15 (twenty-one years ago)

The real excitement comes in about 5 minutes when I open that brand new box of Boudoirs Lady Fingers. Ooh, just you look out now, you inexcusably delectable things.

jim wentworth (wench), Saturday, 20 November 2004 05:17 (twenty-one years ago)

this video is awful

JaXoN (JasonD), Saturday, 20 November 2004 05:18 (twenty-one years ago)

oops, looks like i'll be interviewing the band over AIM instead!

kingfish (Kingfish), Saturday, 20 November 2004 05:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Trying to get a jump on my freelance stuff --- finding it hard to summon up the enthusiasm to write pithy blurbs for, let's see now...., the Pixies reunion tour, Lars Frederiksen and the Bastards, Cradle of Filth (that one will write itself, actually...as the Crades mercifully lend themselves to ludicrous description), Lapis Lazuli, featuring Kurt Wolf (of Pussy Galore, Boss Hog, and Foetus) and Travis Morrison (ex Dismemberment Plan).

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 20 November 2004 05:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Just say they are all rockists but that they don't honor fire.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 20 November 2004 05:26 (twenty-one years ago)

is that for the new yorker?

teeny (teeny), Saturday, 20 November 2004 05:28 (twenty-one years ago)

yep

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 20 November 2004 05:34 (twenty-one years ago)

My lifelong goal is to insert the words "Honor" "the" and "Fire" into the New Yorker before I'm inevitably dismissed from their good graces.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 20 November 2004 05:36 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm trying to get some freelance work from the local altweeklies, but the editor hasn't sent anything back after the initial response yet

kingfish (Kingfish), Saturday, 20 November 2004 05:43 (twenty-one years ago)

I didn't have to work late like I usually do on Friday nights. Drove home and thankfully, all the roads were open again. I've solved a few missions in San Andreas. Went for a walk. It was the first time I've taken a walk through the neighborhood since the election. I was getting too riled up before, seeing a Bush/Cheney sign in a yard and thinking "NO! NO! NOT THE HOUSE WITH THE RED DOOR AND ROUND WINDOW!"

"She Bangs the Drum" is on iTunes, thanks to Alex's "I Wanna Be Adored" comment from last May up there. I dunno. I think this is definitely music that maybe one had to live through to appreciate. Listening to it now, really for the first time since college, it's hard to get into it.

Boy, it sho' sounds like 1989, though.

Pleasant Plains (Pleasant Plains), Saturday, 20 November 2004 06:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh my gosh, the Stone Roses, yeah! (One more section to go.)

youn, Saturday, 20 November 2004 06:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Went to see Sideways today. It was very good but depressing. Then I came home and helped a friend find a new home theatre projector. She's in Toronto but wasn't having any luck finding a place to see the one she was wanting and I'm handy that way. She was cranky that she was gonna have to drive from Mississauga to Richmond Hill or Markham to see it so I told her I had to go out. So I decided wtf and went out, hoping to go up garbage hill (the only hill in town - it's an old dump that's been covered with dirt and now has trees and grass growing on it) to take some pictures but the gate was closed so I said "FUCK" and drove to the Safeway to get some mustard, bread, butter, a honeydew melon, a carton of chocolate milk, and a Fuji apple. Then I came home and prepared myself a meal of the melon, some of the bread and butter, and a bunch of the roast pork I bought today at a Chinese grocery. The crunchy outside stuff was better hot. Now it's just plasticky. I thought about coming on here and hunting down all of the posters I hate and spewing as much evil at them as I could muster, but decided it wasn't worth it and I'd just be compelled to apologize later anyway. I was just gonna stay away from here forever and even went so far as to delete the ilx bookmarks from my browsers and clear my histories but this place gives me something to do when I'm bored. So yeah, a typical boring Friday night. Aren't you all lucky?

Bryan (Bryan), Saturday, 20 November 2004 07:14 (twenty-one years ago)

I came back from the Beauty Bar after an hour; it was miserable. I paid $7.00 for a scotch and soda. The scotch was bad and the soda was flat, the ice was voluminous and the bartender was bitchy. The walls were pink and Antonioni's Blow Up was being projected on a sheet hung from the ceiling. The projector, unfortunately, had been bumped and projected only about one quarter of of the movie on the sheet. I spent 40 minutes watching the lower left half of the film, which mostly consisted of David Hemmings' starkly-white trousers, and making snarky faces at bitchy indie grrls with lopped-off ratbitten haircuts and beerguts they would, without provocation, call twee. I got really really hot and had a tremendous flash-migraine, then I went in the alley and puked. Now I am home and here.

Remy (x Jeremy), Saturday, 20 November 2004 07:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Fucking bee. Fucking sink.

adam... (nordicskilla), Saturday, 20 November 2004 07:25 (twenty-one years ago)

nba fight not boring

kingfish (Kingfish), Saturday, 20 November 2004 07:47 (twenty-one years ago)

The office is largely empty now, and I am BLASTING "DIck Johnson" off Dial 'M' for Motherfucker by Pussy Galore as a result. This would be an entirely swell way to get fired at any other hour of the day.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 20 November 2004 08:01 (twenty-one years ago)

i wish i were married. i want to just hang out with my husband. instead im hanging out with my sister and drunk.

jill schoelen is the queen of my dreams! (Homosexual II), Saturday, 20 November 2004 08:09 (twenty-one years ago)

What time are you meeting up tomorrow, Ned? As for Crystal Cove/Laguna, Sunday would be good for me, but not Wednesday or Saturday.

youn, Saturday, 20 November 2004 08:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Condoleezza Rice never married and look at how happy and accomplished she is! (Cue Edwyn Collins drawling "...consolation prize...")

youn, Saturday, 20 November 2004 08:18 (twenty-one years ago)

I have now moved beyond Pussy Galore, and am currently cranking vintage Talk Talk ("Today" off of The Party's Over). The synth drumming I am engaging in right now could make a statue cry tears of hot blood.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 20 November 2004 08:23 (twenty-one years ago)

air-synth drums, that is.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 20 November 2004 08:23 (twenty-one years ago)

im watching THE PRINCE AND ME because i rented it four months ago and still have not viewed it. HERE IT GOES HURRAH LOL

tonight was crispy bean curd & baby bok choi at the vegetarian restaurant, and a double feature of walking tall (1973) and walking tall (2004).

don't blame me, i voted for ram jam (Jody Beth Rosen), Saturday, 20 November 2004 08:34 (twenty-one years ago)

I stayed home and worked on an overdue remix, made some banks of violin samples and rubber band noise cut-ups, sequenced the samples, and edited the sequence, all the while trying to simultaneously watch my DVD of "Birth of A Nation". Multi-task City, USA! Time to go to sleep, wake up, and mix that bad boy down . . .

Drew Daniel (Drew Daniel), Saturday, 20 November 2004 10:11 (twenty-one years ago)

What time are you meeting up tomorrow, Ned? As for Crystal Cove/Laguna, Sunday would be good for me, but not Wednesday or Saturday.

Oops, hopefully you'll catch this answer! I'll drop an e-mail, but the idea is to do something in the evening -- a number of good bars and places to eat and just hang out in my neck of the woods, I was going to hold it open.

Sunday for Crystal Cove/Laguna could be fun indeed! I'll run it by folks.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 20 November 2004 14:53 (twenty-one years ago)

one year passes...
going to a 24-hour laundromat on a friday night. allah has forsaken me.

HAKKEBOFFER (eman), Saturday, 7 January 2006 06:09 (twenty years ago)

Ha, you weren't the only one-- I finished up my laundry at home at about 11 PM, then headed out to see the midnight showing of The Big Lebowski by myself because all my friends had forsaken me. But the theater was packed with loud drunks who laughed at all the funny bits, so at least I had a good time while I was there.

Chris F. (servoret), Saturday, 7 January 2006 11:37 (twenty years ago)

one year passes...

*zones, nods off* I'm sorry, what?

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 22 September 2007 02:32 (eighteen years ago)

Just saw Eastern Promise with a good friend. Am enjoying a late meal, a glass of raspy but fine Penascal, and Season Three of "The Cosby Show."

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Saturday, 22 September 2007 03:06 (eighteen years ago)

Enjoyed my late meal (I wasn't really hungry -- just some bread and a salad), Polyester is on in the background and I'm vaguely wondering what 'normal couples' do on their boring Friday nights.

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 22 September 2007 03:22 (eighteen years ago)

they go to a movie, eat dinner, have sex, and then talk about all the shopping they're gonna do tomorrow morning.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Saturday, 22 September 2007 03:27 (eighteen years ago)

Step three ain't so bad.

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 22 September 2007 03:29 (eighteen years ago)

only if it involves you, honey bumpkins

the sir weeze, Saturday, 22 September 2007 04:03 (eighteen years ago)

"Normal couples" apparently don't have kids because it costs $$$$ for a sitter for a lot of that activity.

We've been watching tv and I folded laundry. I'm sending A. off to bed since he has to get up and run 16 miles tomorrow morning. I should work on homework now. It is hard to get more boring than homework on a Friday night WHEN YOU ARE 35 YEARS OLD. (Well, at least if it's nutrition homework.)

Sara R-C, Saturday, 22 September 2007 04:12 (eighteen years ago)

On the other hand, we did eat some yummy pumpkin bread that we made tonight.

Sara R-C, Saturday, 22 September 2007 04:12 (eighteen years ago)

I ate ice cream and smoked a lot of cigarettes, read that silly book Belle du Jour about the (surely fake?) prostitute in London, and yelled at Bill Maher on tv. Sadly that means I did not ride out and see Yerac & Lauren, but c'est la vie, or something.

Laurel, Saturday, 22 September 2007 04:16 (eighteen years ago)

I just looked up saccharine at Wikipedia. Whee!

I'm sure your feet are fine, Laurel (and Ned).

belle du jour the film is worth seeing

jergïns, Saturday, 22 September 2007 04:55 (eighteen years ago)

Do boring ass saturday mornings count because I'm in the future?

Trayce, Saturday, 22 September 2007 05:04 (eighteen years ago)

Glad you're here, it definitely counts - but I prescribe a Saturday morning nap if it's boring and you have the opportunity. I will envy it if you do!

Sara R-C, Saturday, 22 September 2007 05:14 (eighteen years ago)

get bent, Saturday, 22 September 2007 06:45 (eighteen years ago)

cried alone in my room about having no friends in a foreign country, until one of the german roommates said "hey want to go to a bar or something?" so we found a street with bars, and a street with prostitutes, and had a few drinks on the street with bars, and it was a lot better than sitting around crying. hoping either something fun occurs tonight, or i am less depressed.

Maria, Saturday, 22 September 2007 10:16 (eighteen years ago)

Mine was great! I had takeaway curry and read some George Orwell and watched a documentary about Factory on BBC4.

Madchen, Saturday, 22 September 2007 10:28 (eighteen years ago)

Aw Maria :(

Madchen, Saturday, 22 September 2007 10:28 (eighteen years ago)

Which Orwell did you read Madchen?

That is a shame Maria, if you get to Dublin there are lots of ILXors, bars and prostitutes.

Last night I played "Acrowars" pretty much all night, after watching Ireland lose badly at rugby to France.

I'm going to fold laundry and then continue to not clean the kitchen and dining area. I don't know why I invited guests over for a big meal tomorrow night, but I did. I even promised to get the holiday china out.

This night is NOT going to get less boring.

Sara R-C, Saturday, 8 December 2007 05:37 (eighteen years ago)

R, glad you made a great b-day for your b-friend. Eh, 1500 wds ain't nothing, but, then again, after two work shifts, blah.

J, who the fuck is vinnie colaiuta?

g, sorry the date warn't better. Coulda been worse I s'pose.

S, you are smart.

I am going to be dumb and go out, even though by the time I get to where I wanna go, the night will be over or whatever. I was about to doze off, and then I got a sudden and intense attack of the blues and weird nostalgic heartache, which woke me right up, and now I'm thinking that a walk outside in the cold will do me good. Maybe I'll be regretful tomorrow, but whatever. At least it's too late in the night to end up spending very much dough.

dell, Saturday, 8 December 2007 05:50 (eighteen years ago)

Ah, a drummer dude. I will have to look into that more. Not to mention that some solo Jeff Beck is intriguing to me.

OK, bye people. Enjoy.

technically mine was probably less boring to me personally than several other evenings I've spent out on the town recently, I mean I'm drinking good beer I can't get at any bar, sort of chatting online with interesting people, consuming new and interesting teevee and songs and shit, plus getting stuff done, I mean really, it's a wonder anybody leaves the house except to get laid.

oh.

right.

being home is boring so far. watching late-night cable tv (kiss unplugged, a time-life infomercial starring air supply, some short film on sundance where people on the street call the white house comment line on a payphone and leave messages for the president). drank some grape juice and took a claritin. it's cold out.

Went to the office Christmas party held at my publisher's house, out in the new western part of the city. Kinda weird, his house is easily worth 6-7 times what my place is worth, and still, our backyard is bigger.

(Our kitchen, however, is not.)

I'm up early after a restless night, having that re-occurring dream where I'm trying to get the band to play right and all I'm doing is "shredding" on the bass with no one really paying attention to us.

Kinda like what I do here sometimes.

I am going to see Jenna Jameson in the future-classic of cinema ZOMBIE STRIPPERS, playing at the NuArt

Everything You Could Hope For in a Movie Called Zombie Strippers
Sometimes titles don't lie
by Luke Y. Thompson
April 15th, 2008 12:00 AM

During George W. Bush's fourth term as president, the administration's desire for crises and predisposition toward fuck-ups leads to the creation of a zombie virus that the government hopes will help replenish troops for its various overseas conflicts. Infected women become super-strong and maintain their intelligence, but the men remain your typical, shambling, mindless undead. So when the virus leaks into a strip club, the place becomes the most popular illegal joint in town. All too often with horror/cult movies, a catchy title masks a low budget and an even lower level of talent, but director Jay Lee (The Slaughter) delivers absolutely everything you could possibly hope for in a film called Zombie Strippers, with a consistently hilarious, brutal, and titillating mash-up of Return of the Living Dead and Showgirls that actually beats out Mark Pirro's Nudist Colony of the Dead for the unofficial title of best naked zombie movie ever. He even manages some George Romero–style social commentary, with zombie-dom as a metaphor for plastic surgery—that star Jenna Jameson's plasticized, pre-zombie face is actually scarier than the final monstrous version only proves the point.

Surmounter, Saturday, 19 April 2008 01:57 (eighteen years ago)

I'm watching Solarbabies:

Set in a post-apocalyptic future in which most of the water has disappeared from the planet, we find a group of children, mostly teenagers, living at an orphanage run by the nazi-ish despotic rulers of the new Earth. The group in question consists of Jason, the group's ad hoc leader played by Jason Patric; Terra, played by Jami Gertz; Tug, played by Peter DeLuise; Rabbit, played by Claude Brooks; Metron, played by James Le Gros; and a little deaf boy named Daniel, played by Lukas Haas.
The group likes to play a somewhat rough competition game of rollerball and are quite good at it. It has given them a unity that transcends the attempts to bring them to heel by the government who tries to influence the children into becoming future soldiers.
While hiding out in a cave, the children find an unusual orb of special power, which in reality is a sentient alien entity called Bohdai. They quickly find he has unusual effects on them, especially Daniel who regains his hearing. They escape from the orphanage (on skates) and try to cross the desert looking for a place they can live free as government stormtroopers and wasteland bounty hunters search for them. They are later joined by fellow orphan, Darstar, played by Adrian Pasdar. Unbeknownst to the children, the government's devious scientific branch desperately searches for Bohdai, bringing danger to anyone who possesses him.

Surmounter, Saturday, 19 April 2008 02:04 (eighteen years ago)

Apparently they "smoke" the coca cola syrup before using it. Very good with whiskey, cherry flavors.

Also, this place had a white russian on the food menu -- Rice Krispees added.

surmounter, nah. she is just very tight w/her family, so they will be there as a matter of course. no, I haven't met them before. from what i know of her father, apparently he told one of her gay friends that he really liked him b/c he wasn't one of those "faggy" gays or some such. so, yeah. it will be fun. given that I don't have sleeves of tattoos engulfing both arms, he will probably try to pin me as being a stand-in for a live action version of the cast of the powderpuff girls or something.

Flying to Israel tomorrow. Spent the evening packing, doing laundry, roaming the mall trying to find a non-hideous pair of shorts (which I GUESS I found) and a simple pair of nice-looking, non-Conversey canvas shoes, which I could not find.

Hurting 2, Saturday, 19 April 2008 03:24 (eighteen years ago)

trying to find a translation of a hebrew review of my roommates' band.

so bored. i watched a tracy morgan dvd, changed a bass drum head, and digested some ill-advised, overpriced mexican food.

supposed to go out tonight, but a) have not heard back from friend, and b) he's hanging out with a bunch of dudes he went to college with anyway, so i'll probably feel 5th wheelish anyway.

Jordan, Saturday, 19 April 2008 03:27 (eighteen years ago)

I know some Hebrew. Definitely not fluent.

Hurting 2, Saturday, 19 April 2008 03:27 (eighteen years ago)

If you send it to me, I can have the lady look at it. Might not get around to it until we come back, but worth a shot.

jordan: you are young and healthy and single; you have no earthly reason to go out unless there are girls. Not to sound mercenary or anything, but srsly.

"Oh, hung out in a room full of sausage, made small talk..."

NO!

kenan, Saturday, 19 April 2008 03:31 (eighteen years ago)

hahaha i know in the back of my head i had a similar thought. i mean it's one thing if all the guys are your buddies. but if you're 5th wheeling i feel a girl buddy is needed

I can't make out much of it. Little slivers about them being a band from Brooklyn, something about them singing "ironic" songs that also involve a bunch of other stuff including mythology? There's a comparison to "Of Montreal" in there.

What kind of game do you want to make Ste?

Jarlrmai, Friday, 30 May 2008 22:17 (eighteen years ago)

at the moment it's heading towards being a zombie sim, rather than a proper game, where the focus is on hiding and avoiding hoards of zombos. it could develop into something entirely different though.

I want puzzles in it though, like in the old adventure games, something like indiana meets the living dead. perhaps.

Ste, Friday, 30 May 2008 22:25 (eighteen years ago)

Drinking a mountain dew, watching my fish. Maybe something else? Finish the book I'm reading, do some crosswords. Try and figure out the 843,279 things I must be overlooking re: wedding prep.

It's only 4 p.m. so there are my mundane afternoon & evening plans.

I always wanted Nethack/Xcom meets Zombies.

Turnbased, pseudo random, zombie survival with RPG elements.

Jarlrmai, Friday, 30 May 2008 22:29 (eighteen years ago)

yes to zombie sim. if you make it so another player can direct groups of sluggish zombies = a game that needs to be made.

Explained to the Israeli guy from work that gays weren't allowed to serve in the US armed forces. He thought I was putting him on. After dinner bought a gym membership and walked on the elliptical while listening to "This American Life." When I got home my wife and kid were already asleep. after this, i dropped her off at alta so she could find a white hairbrush. while she shopped, i drove over to a nearby half price books and looked at greasy comics. on the way out, i bought an r. stevie moore LP. then i picked her up, and we went to the tacoma mall because alta did not have a suitable hairbrush.

in the mall, i used the men's room while she went to sephora. while otherwise occupied, i considered unmatched raw plywood as a substitute for stone tile in commercial design applications. when i was done, i washed up and dried my hands in one of those mitsubishi jet towel things they're putting in everywhere. they promise germ-freedom, but i have my doubts. everybody seems to touch the edges. i met her in the mac store, and then we came home.

from 9:00 to 10:30 we watched 30 rock episodes on demand and drank ikea brand pear cider. she curled my hair to test out these wax-filled ionic something hair curlers she had purchased at alta. the results looked okay, but the curl fell out rather quickly. now i'm looking at a screen.

touch fuzzy, get dizzy (boy_slayer), Friday, 10 May 2013 22:09 (thirteen years ago)

it's friday. up in my old bedroom (home from A2) and drinking with my girls (sundays, madonna, innocence mission, etc.) smoking in the rain. one last time before monday. then, then, preparing for LSAT and those things. give me until monday. just sent my little (special needs) sister to prom. she's beautiful. getting drunk with CARPET beneath my feet. getting drunk quietly in my old bedroom. my old BLUE bedroom. showing A papers to my mom (which she takes for granted). Preparing for Columbia. listening to that Nottee single.

Ask me about Sung Women, mofos (kidding, it's all good mofos).

Finally having CARPET beneath my feet is so chill! No more rough and ready hardwood floors; which, by the way, lovers avoid like lava.
