Just saw Eastern Promise with a good friend. Am enjoying a late meal, a glass of raspy but fine Penascal, and Season Three of "The Cosby Show."

Enjoyed my late meal (I wasn't really hungry -- just some bread and a salad), Polyester is on in the background and I'm vaguely wondering what 'normal couples' do on their boring Friday nights.

We've been watching tv and I folded laundry. I'm sending A. off to bed since he has to get up and run 16 miles tomorrow morning. I should work on homework now. It is hard to get more boring than homework on a Friday night WHEN YOU ARE 35 YEARS OLD. (Well, at least if it's nutrition homework.)

On the other hand, we did eat some yummy pumpkin bread that we made tonight.

Bush's fourth term as president, the administration's desire for crises and predisposition toward fuck-ups leads to the creation of a zombie virus that the government hopes will help replenish troops for its various overseas conflicts. Infected women become super-strong and maintain their intelligence, but the men remain your typical, shambling, mindless undead. So when the virus leaks into a strip club, the place becomes the most popular illegal joint in town. All too often with horror/cult movies, a catchy title masks a low budget and an even lower level of talent, but director Jay Lee (The Slaughter) delivers absolutely everything you could possibly hope for in a film called Zombie Strippers, with a consistently hilarious, brutal, and titillating mash-up of Return of the Living Dead and Showgirls that actually beats out Mark Pirro's Nudist Colony of the Dead for the unofficial title of best naked zombie movie ever. He even manages some George Romero–style social commentary, with zombie-dom as a metaphor for plastic surgery—that star Jenna Jameson's plasticized, pre-zombie face is actually scarier than the final monstrous version only proves the point.

I'm watching Solarbabies:

Set in a post-apocalyptic future in which most of the water has disappeared from the planet, we find a group of children, mostly teenagers, living at an orphanage run by the nazi-ish despotic rulers of the new Earth. The group in question consists of Jason, the group's ad hoc leader played by Jason Patric; Terra, played by Jami Gertz; Tug, played by Peter DeLuise; Rabbit, played by Claude Brooks; Metron, played by James Le Gros; and a little deaf boy named Daniel, played by Lukas Haas.
The group likes to play a somewhat rough competition game of rollerball and are quite good at it. It has given them a unity that transcends the attempts to bring them to heel by the government who tries to influence the children into becoming future soldiers.
While hiding out in a cave, the children find an unusual orb of special power, which in reality is a sentient alien entity called Bohdai. They quickly find he has unusual effects on them, especially Daniel who regains his hearing. They escape from the orphanage (on skates) and try to cross the desert looking for a place they can live free as government stormtroopers and wasteland bounty hunters search for them. They are later joined by fellow orphan, Darstar, played by Adrian Pasdar. Unbeknownst to the children, the government's devious scientific branch desperately searches for Bohdai, bringing danger to anyone who possesses him.

Apparently they "smoke" the coca cola syrup before using it. Very good with whiskey, cherry flavors.

Finished reviewing Consitutional Law today, procrastinating starting in on Evidence, one of my personally weakest subjects during Law School, wife watching Poltergeist II, I finally worked out some computer issues today, so I am back to fully functional.

tonight I spent a couple hours studying for the GRE, helped one of my roommates make a late dinner, ate, read an article about Iceland not having a democratic enough society, did dishes, and am now going to work on my grad school statement and go to bed. Weekend nights like this make me stir-crazy, but I can't afford to go out until I get more work hours.

I saw some video/audio collabos at the Issue Project Room. First one included Bradford Reed, creator of the pencillina playing that as well as a drumset, and that was cool. The second one was boring and the third one also seemed boring so I left. $15 admission plus $5 for a can of sly fox = $20 I could have spent better.

had a quick dinner (shrimp tempura skewers w/ mashed potatoes) with the bf and now i'm home listening to the loud drunken ne'er-do-wells outside. i would close the windows but i'm enjoying the fresh air. it's funny how there are different kinds of drunks: when i imbibe i'm quiet and happy like a contented baby with a bottle.

there's a cat that's been mewling outside for several hours now. it's probably hungry, but i don't have anything it could eat. and even if i did, it would probably expect me to feed it every day.

i usually get quieter, drunker. feral cats can fend for themselves, especially in the city. my cat is so fat, i think i'm going to take a tip from the 'help name my cat' thread or whatever and re-dub him 'king tubby.'

this winter, i am hibernating

i braised a big hunk of meat and made some gravy for it. will serve it with tj's polenta/spinach/cream sauce side dish. it's raining so tonight's entertainment is contingent upon whatever's around the house.

also: drinking a can of oranjeboom right now, and watching jeopardy!

I am stuck in my apartment because it's snowing like a bastard. My only hope is that it will snow enough that my boss won't show up at my front door tomorrow with a shovel offering to "help" me excavate my car so I can come in to work and I can have a proper two-day weekend for the first time in over two months.

i am making pasta alla norma (quinoa spaghetti, and i added zucchini) and watching 30 rock and drinking seltzer.

I'm drinking cheap lone star and trying to find out about Cumbia. I'm turning up next to nothing on finding actual recordings.

i worked til 8:30ish, left early to see a friend play. show was good except for douchebag ppl talkin' loud during the folk show. w/e. drank. got kinda bummed; my boss called me to bitch about someone being down in the basement unattended, which was common practice w/ the old manager/douchebag. oh well. and some of z@ch's songs are sad songs. now home listening to records, ate some pizza.

I am jealous, I had a frito pie for dinner.

Went to dinner at a crazily old-school restaurant with people from work, completely empty at 7pm on a Friday night, ate filet mignon and bananas Foster flambeed tableside. Explained to the Israeli guy from work that gays weren't allowed to serve in the US armed forces. He thought I was putting him on. After dinner bought a gym membership and walked on the elliptical while listening to "This American Life." When I got home my wife and kid were already asleep. So I'm catching up on e-mail and working a bit and then might sit and leaf through the coffee-table book I got from the library of historical photos of my city. So it's actually been a sort of boring but pleasant Friday night.

Unofficial workplace poker tournament tomorrow morning followed by two days of band recording. It's also raining out now. By all respects I should be hanging in and getting some sleep, but I'm heading out to Malibu to meet friends for karaoke.

Hanging out with some friends and a puppy and having a couple beers. They went to see Patton Oswalt but I had to work. Boooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

I think I have misjudged sardines. I tried fresh ones recently and they had this nice briny ocean taste that made me want oysters. I've been craving them ever since.

sardines stuffed with capers and raisins, dredged in flour, and fried in olive oil are outstanding, at least as served at gennaro on the upper west side of new york city.

finished up my 2nd-to-last day of work, said goodbye to anyone i won't see tomorrow, handshakes and hugs, left the officer around 11 p.m. with a box of stuff i cleared out of my desk. now drinking wine, listening to freddie hubbard and thinking about all the stuff that has to get done in the next three weeks.

i have . . . Dunkin Doughnuts (just finished a hot chocolate, still have a coffee roll & a doughnut), some ice cream cones, etc. mostly not healthy stuff

and i'm re-visiting Staind, whom i've barely listened to in years. high school me would be proud

been home from work for about half an hour, exhausted. went to make a peanut butter & jelly sandwich but found my last four slices of my bread had gone moldy. don't really have the enthusiasm to make some chicken or quesadillas or eggs, which are my other grocery options.

Did gardening, ran errands, zoning here listening to Kraftwerk live in 1974 and reading Simon Winder's Germania, which is pretty good stuff.

i miss my old chinese-delivery hole in the wall back in brooklyn. i'd put in the order and the food would arrive at my doorstep 15 minutes later, courtesy of a sweaty guy on a bicycle. wuv.
