Don't know if this has been mentioned on any ILM threads, but the Mountain Goats are doing a free in store at Easy Street in Lower Queen Anne on Monday 8/21 11 pm. Be there or be somewhere else.

Seattle August 21, pre-Mountain Goats FAP in Lower QA

I even mentioned you there. :)

haha I just got my internet set up in my apartment today, so I have barely been checking ilx at all for the last few weeks. my search-before-posting etiquette has fallen by the wayside in that time apparently.

A. Lingbert (A. Lingbert), Sunday, 13 August 2006 06:13 (seventeen years ago) link

So hey, we're back. I'd wanted to post this for a while, but yeah:

SEATTLE CROQUET FAP

Jaq and I decided that this coming Sunday (8/20) would work best for both of us. We're calling it 2 p.m. My house. Email me for directions: jergins at gmail dot com. Easy bus access to Phinney ridge.

There will be: food, beer, rum, croquet, music. Who's in? What else?

jergins (jergins), Tuesday, 15 August 2006 22:25 (seventeen years ago) link

I see croquet and i think croquettes. So maybe we'll make croquettes as well.

Karachi Handshake (jergins), Tuesday, 15 August 2006 22:26 (seventeen years ago) link

A., if that's your email, I'll email you..

In case ILX suffers a worse shutdown soon, I will then have everyone's contact info in some form or another for tMG Easy Street FAP thing.. as well as the Sunday Croquet thing.

I won't be here often, due to ILX wonkiness... so contact me! I can be reached at macro at either myspace or 43people dot com, and put a "k" between the "c" and "r". Then I'll tell you my email address.

OK!

OK! Yeah, maybe the group email thing would work better for the time being. Count me in for Monday night.

Karachi Handshake (jergins), Tuesday, 15 August 2006 22:33 (seventeen years ago) link

I got a grill! For free! It's electric. So we're all set for 2 pm Sunday. Lurky McLurkerson, are you coming?

jergins (jergins), Friday, 18 August 2006 19:19 (seventeen years ago) link

YAY GRILL!!! I'm bringing one (1) croquet set, two (2) salads, three (3) bottles of wine, and four (4) lawn chairs.

three weeks pass...
My mother and stepfather are going to be in town the weekend of the 23rd, and they're looking for a cheap hotel (i.e. $60 range). Right now, they're thinking of staying near Seatac Airport because of cost, but they'd rather stay closer. Anyone know of anything in that price range that isn't a complete shithole?

A. Lingbert (A. Lingbert), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 04:39 (seventeen years ago) link

And yeah, weekend rates at short notice makes things more difficult.

A. Lingbert (A. Lingbert), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 04:47 (seventeen years ago) link

maybe our definitions differ, but I really don't thing you're going to find a place that isn't a shithole, or a Euro-style hotel geared to kids, for less than $100 (at the very best), maybe even including places at the airport. given that, I'd recommend checking out this place - http://www.universityinnseattle.com/ (in the University District, not Downtown, but very close to the freeway)

gabbneb (gabbneb), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 05:14 (seventeen years ago) link

Try the Marco Polo on Aurora that we passed in your car that one night. It should be in the $75 range and isn't a hole. probably sold out but worth a try.

Jaq?

We've put people up at the Inn at Queen Anne, which is interesting (used to be small apartments) and on lower Queen Anne. Their sister property is the MarQueen, where Caffe Lladro is - I don't know anyone who's stayed there though. There's also the Mediterranean Inn right down there, but it's more $$.

Jaq (Jaq), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 22:20 (seventeen years ago) link

A., it won't matter.

I'm taking your mom and stepdad out for all night ravin at Decibel Festival. They won't need to sleep.

That said, while it's hardly glamorous, either is a place to stay that has basic motel amenities, and you never know if there are cancellations.. Days Inn or Sixth Ave Inn around 6th-7th and Bell might be worth a try. Right near Denny Way, Belltown, accessible, and all that.

You might have some luck with a bed and breakfast. Some are spendy, but there was one in Fremont for $99, so there may be others for less $.

We're in town to house-hunt that weekend (I start work on 9/25, otherwise I'd join the dow nut for that all night ravin...)

Dude, my mom and stepdad are total e-tards!% Everytime I go to their place, it's like "No, Mom, I don't want see how amazing the door mat feels when you're barefoot."

Thanks for the suggestions guys. A fount of Seattle wisdom you are.

A. Lingbert (A. Lingbert), Thursday, 14 September 2006 01:37 (seventeen years ago) link

two weeks pass...
btw they stayed at the Marco Polo ("NICE ROOMS" says the marquee out front under the giant green sign). $70/night. Free suite upgrade with AAA card. Not far from my place. The other places suggested on thread were either too expensive or were already booked for the weekend.

It wasn't too bad. It was functional. It served its purpose. No bugs or anything. They didn't have any major complaints. You could hear with little effort the guy next door because the rooms have a connecting door, and the walls were pretty thin. Also, the entire perimeter of the connecting door was sealed with masking tape. I can't imagine this was a security measure. Maybe it's to keep out smoke? Either way, it looked classy. Also, no outlet in the bathroom.

A. Lingbert (A. Lingbert), Friday, 29 September 2006 02:21 (seventeen years ago) link

I spent last weekend in Seattle. Shameful yuppie furniture run to Ikea in suburban hell south of town, seeing Rainier for the first time, four really good meals, record store in Capitol Hill, just driving around, looking at people and houses and streets and views. Plus we got to stay at my friend's sister's place in some rural northern suburb meaning hot tub on the deck action. All in the same state that I currently live in, albeit a 4.5 hour drive. But that's not too bad, considering I used to live that far from Green Bay, Wisconsin. Seattle's much more fun.

Too bad I could never afford to buy a house there. Holy crap. Who's got that kind of loot?

joygoat (joygoat), Friday, 29 September 2006 03:53 (seventeen years ago) link

We're hoping to have an unpacking party sometime between Friday, Oct. 20 and Sunday, Oct 22. All kinds of things may influence which day this occurs, including work schedules, whether the bus actually runs, and the phase of the moon. All the mimosas and waffles you can eat if you're there early, all the pizza and beer/wine you can drink if you come by later. Come paw through our collection and help us get all these damn books and records back on the shelves. Write for directions and further updates as the variables converge.

Ned, I'm currently somewhere near your town I believe - working 7 days a week though at the Frank Bowerman landfill in Bee Canyon (Irvine?) so I doubt our paths will cross this trip. Hopefully things will be less frantic when I'm back in late Oct/early Nov.

Jaq (Jaq), Thursday, 5 October 2006 01:31 (seventeen years ago) link

Hey Jaq, that weekend is also Matmos In Seattle weekend (as mentioned on the Noise Board Seattle thread STUFF TO DO IN SEATTLE/VANCOUVER). I'll probably have plenty of studying to do, but I'll see if I can maybe come by your place at some point.

Just curious, which northern rural suburb, Joygoat?

Apocalypse '07: Rodney Strikes Back (R. J. Greene), Thursday, 5 October 2006 01:54 (seventeen years ago) link

In-store on Sunday means 1 vote for Friday/Saturday! Also, I'm pretty sure the bus doesn't run on Sunday (we are near the tail end (south) of the 48 route).

Jaq (Jaq), Thursday, 5 October 2006 01:59 (seventeen years ago) link

i'll be there as will lxy, i'd imagine. we could give a ride or two, but we can figure that out as we get closer. and i'd be happy to shelve books. by color plz!

jaq i love how you post on a seattle thread knowing ned will read it

please tell me Bow/Edison, please.

NokiyaUp (jergins), Thursday, 5 October 2006 19:45 (seventeen years ago) link

Hola! I'm doing Matmos thingies with 10 other friends (non-ilxor) that night, although fellow peeps here are welcome to say hi, hang out, and all that. (we're getting to the t-door right when they open basically, so we can get good seats, and have dinner there.)

Jaq, the 7 bus runs in Othello 7 days a week I think... maybe not as close as the 48 would. Don't know your exact location though.

I should be up for a Saturday morning/day thing.

So, beer battered waffles?

0xDOX0RNUTX0RX0RSDABITFIELDXOR^0xDEADBEEFDEADBEEF00001 (donut), Thursday, 5 October 2006 20:02 (seventeen years ago) link

The 42 is a better bet than the 7 I think. With the 7, you'd have to walk through all the construction on MLK. The 42 has a stop at MLK and Othello, and that's maybe 3 blocks from us.

jaq i love how you post on a seattle thread knowing ned will read it

Ned is everywhere :) Shelve by color! Shelve by height! Shelve by the third letter of the author's first name! Each set of shelves can have its own theme. There are over 100 banker boxes full of books; plenty to play with. Mr. Jaq is more particular about the records.

Matmos is also playing a free instore at Easy Street records at 3pm on Sunday.

I am still available the morning of the 21st to help with the moving stuff... and for the waffle beers.

Also, we should all take this to e-mail. I'll be off ilx very soon, but I want to keep in touch with you guys.
