Do you have one? How does it work? Do you ever abuse it?

Well sure, there was this one time that I was able to scam my company's AMEX to the tune of six-thousand.... wait a minute! Is this going to be available publicly on the internet?

Used to have one with my old job, probably will get one with my new job. Basically, it works two ways - expenses you pay out of pocket are reimbursed, expenses you charge on a corporate credit card are taken care of. I never abused an expense account, and never will; doing so is usually grounds for immediate termination.

Haha! Of course I'm not thinking of abusing any potential expense accounts. That part was a joke. Haha!

gygax! I was well within my dining guideline for that, believe it or not!

gygax, do you get air miles?

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Thursday, 22 April 2004 20:02 (twenty-two years ago)

i made my last job pay for my dsl costs because I occasionally telecommuted.

You got dining guidelines, h? How did that work then?

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Thursday, 22 April 2004 20:03 (twenty-two years ago)

um, based on what city you were in, you got a limit on what you could spend for food. Fortunately, San Francisco's limit was pretty high (and my boss then probably wouldn't have cared anyway seeing as he approved the expense).

I know someone who got canned for abusing his. Expense account abuse is pretty much standard in the record industry though.

Do hookers go under 'Meals & Entertainment' or 'Local Transportation'?

I used to work in advertising, and expense account abuse is predictably rife there, particularly among the creatives. I was editing a Cl4rks Sh0es spot for one creative team who had bought just over a thousand pounds worth of P4ul Sm1th shoes in the name of "getting an idea of who the competition are". A friend of mine who worked with me also uncovered some evidence that one very well-known copywriter there (and this was quite a high-profile meeja friendly company, but screw them) had been procuring the services of international "high class" prostitutes and flying them over for fun weekends on the company pound.

haha-

Chronic namedropping and associated crimes

We'll just call him "Copywriter X" at "Company X".

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Friday, 23 April 2004 15:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Seriously, how did he expense that? I do expenses for several invstment bankers and they're mostly justifiable but then I see them taking clients to sporting events or out golfing and I think, 'Swine! Whores!", and gnash my teeth.

Michael White (Hereward), Friday, 23 April 2004 15:24 (twenty-two years ago)

I have no idea, actually. He might have had a company card and maybe the company in question had a delicately euphemistic name.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Friday, 23 April 2004 15:26 (twenty-two years ago)

"Good Friends"

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Friday, 23 April 2004 15:26 (twenty-two years ago)

"Executive Privileges"

If you use your Switch/credit card in most London sex shops, it comes up on your statement/bill as something really bland like "Food Services".

Er, apparently.
