Summer of Love

How did you know when you were in love? Was it as obvious as a broken arm or more subtle than that? How did you know when you weren't?

it was when she broke my arm and punched me in the penis

Some sorta related threads:

Wouldn't it be great if there were a scientific test to determine if you were "in love"?

When do you say you are "in love"?

jesus christ.
didn't mean to beat a dead horse.
but live threads are far more interesting than retired ones, don't you think?
thanks, john. really.

kelsey (kelstarry), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 18:13 (twenty-one years ago)

you can always revive an old one, m'dear.

dyson (dyson), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 18:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, but if a regular started this thread, nobody would blink, would they?

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 18:18 (twenty-one years ago)

or just kill the whole thing, really. i was reading a semi-literary magazine & people write in these stories about these moments when it was clear. i don't think i've ever had it crystalized. jaymc had it crystalized once. wondered how common it was.

kelsey (kelstarry), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 18:21 (twenty-one years ago)

And reading old threads can be very interesting indeed -- opinions shift and other takes come up. Trust me, the search function is your friend!

nobody would blink, would they?

I would have searched and posted the same thing.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 18:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Fair enough, Ned.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 18:22 (twenty-one years ago)

boy do i feel like the nerdy new kid on the block.

kelsey (kelstarry), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 18:25 (twenty-one years ago)

That's what you get for being named Kelsey.

St. Nicholas (Nick A.), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 18:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Kelsey what are your feelings on beards?

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 18:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Because you like the name?

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 18:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Kelsey seems cool and we were all new here once.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 18:35 (twenty-one years ago)

by the way, i've been informed that hstencil has been at a party at my house...

kelsey (kelstarry), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 18:36 (twenty-one years ago)

I am jealous of her esprit de corps.

oh yes, I have! How's it going? I like Kelsey Grammar, btw, he's won Emmys! I wish he still had a beard tho, like in those early Cheers days.

The Cheers cast member I resemble most:

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 18:39 (twenty-one years ago)

1. none of the threads linked are really the same question
2. it's inhospitable to always bust with the "oh we did this!!" unless it's, say, a C/D thread or a recent news event
3. dean's "award" is itself the recipient of the coveted Superfluous Comma award

J0hn Darn1elle (J0hn Darn1elle), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 18:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Why is Grammer's hair green in that photo upthread??

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 18:42 (twenty-one years ago)

um yeah. i mean, john told me that you've been to my house, but i'm afraid i don't remember. & i forgot to email nicholas for the most recent one. sorry!

kelsey (kelstarry), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 18:42 (twenty-one years ago)

thanks john d . . . i appreciate it.

kelsey (kelstarry), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 18:43 (twenty-one years ago)

*rubs eyes*
no... not you ned¡ you've been here since the very beginning of time haven't you¿

dyson (dyson), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 18:44 (twenty-one years ago)

3. dean's "award" is itself the recipient of the coveted Superfluous Comma award

You'll have to take it up with the guy who created the .gif.

deanomgwtf!!!p%3Fmsgid%3D4581997 (deangulberry), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 18:44 (twenty-one years ago)

old threads are often overrated. Sometimes it's good to start anew.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 18:44 (twenty-one years ago)

I tried to think of a serious answer to the question but I can't.

St. Nicholas (Nick A.), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 18:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, kelsey is right. I'd say that I've been in love once, and it did just sort of hit me one day.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 18:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Also, for the record, the next new thread to be starting was going to get that award gif because I am enjoying it for the first time. It just happened that this was a pretty generic thread and lent itself towards a group hata session.

deanomgwtf!!!p%3Fmsgid%3D4581997 (deangulberry), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 18:47 (twenty-one years ago)

st. nicholas, are you the nicholas i know?

kelsey (kelstarry), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 18:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Kelsey I live in NYC now so no more visits. I think the time I came over with Nicholas, I had to drive his car home while he puked out the passenger side window. Unless that was a different crazy jaymc-related party.

(I'll still trounce him at Trivial Pursuit, btw.)

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 18:47 (twenty-one years ago)

This is pretty obvious, but I think love exists on a continuum. Hence it's not strictly "in love" or "not in love," but degrees of love. Maybe the sudden realization of love is due to a rapid movement up the continuum. But that's probably too easy.

No. I know jaymc, but you don't know me. And I don't know hstencil. Well kind of.

St. Nicholas (Nick A.), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 18:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Handy Lexicon

constant erection = in love
constant dejection = not in love no more
constant reflection = locked in the house of mirrors
constant confection = slave in candy factory
constant inspection = quality control #870 in Hanes factory
constant injection = junkie

Michael White (Hereward), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 18:50 (twenty-one years ago)

xpost to NA - You don't know me from beans, sir. We are discussing a much sweeter, less baiter-prone Nicholas.

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 18:50 (twenty-one years ago)

i agree that it's on a continuum.

how can you kind of not know someone? wait. maybe i thought out my own answer.

kelsey (kelstarry), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 18:51 (twenty-one years ago)

I am very sweet, fucknads.
