people are often putting down subgroups by using stereotypes.

yesterday Trayce admitted she was a dirty hippy goth.

are you one of those stereotypes? or are you, like, a totally unique person?

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Wednesday, 23 March 2005 22:22 (twenty-one years ago)

I am a totally unique stereotype.

M. White (Miguelito), Wednesday, 23 March 2005 22:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Eisbär (llamasfur), Wednesday, 23 March 2005 22:27 (twenty-one years ago)

I am the stereotype:

Every female on the net is really a fat lonely loser.

kate/thank you friendly cloud (papa november), Wednesday, 23 March 2005 22:27 (twenty-one years ago)

i actually missed the whole thing about Trayce eisbar...maybe she admitted she was a dirty hippy role player not a goth.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Wednesday, 23 March 2005 22:28 (twenty-one years ago)

I am your stereotypical grim, devil-may-care, liberal-arts-educated, class-confused, cynical, happy-go-lucky, penetratingly-intellectual, baby boomer liberal demi-socialist... on my good days.

Great, Brave, True, Strong...adam levine (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 23 March 2005 22:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, exactly, you know, I'm one of those intellectual young north Floridian proletarians whose moods naturally vary from one extreme to another, the sort who loves everything musical/socio-political/historical/theoretical, whose sexuality runs rampant under an unintentional surface of repression, the type who are iconoclastic blasts of anarchism at their most inspired, but can easily be mellow without reserving anything. Yeah, I'm that sort of guy...

What we want? Sex with T.V. stars! What you want? Ian Riese-Moraine! (Eastern Ma, Wednesday, 23 March 2005 22:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Blossom in Paris (Jody Beth Rosen), Thursday, 24 March 2005 00:03 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm trying to figure out whether I'd rather be a "liberal Christian" or a boring ol' atheist, and a "liberal" or a "libertarian," and a "lazy, entitled, pretentious child of the suburbs" or a "social activist" of some sort. But I'm definitely a pathetic nerd!

Maria (Maria), Thursday, 24 March 2005 00:08 (twenty-one years ago)

does adam really have floppy hair? can anyone confirm?

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 24 March 2005 01:55 (twenty-one years ago)

i am two stereotypes:

1. late-20s single career-driven woman from (renounced) catholic background whose family and smug coupled friends CONSTANTLY berate with 'ticking clocks' and 'make your mum and dad proud' lectures about getting loved and preggersed up.

2. nerdy mature aged student who always without fail has her assignments finished on time, does all the preparation for tutorials, sits in the front row and answers all the questions, and works in the uni library.

gem (trisk), Thursday, 24 March 2005 01:56 (twenty-one years ago)

i can't actually think of a stereotype that fits (maybe a few mixed together). this is not because i am unique and interesting but because I am THAT boring!

ryan (ryan), Thursday, 24 March 2005 02:02 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm sure i fit into some stereoype but i'm not sure which one.

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Thursday, 24 March 2005 02:04 (twenty-one years ago)

dave q (listerine), Thursday, 24 March 2005 03:07 (twenty-one years ago)

I guess I'm occasionally "the black guy at the indie show" but I think I need an unwieldy afro or a soulpatch to really live up to that, plus if another black guy shows up he really ruins it for both of us(see: Not Another Teen Movie).

poser.

Remy (x Jeremy), Thursday, 24 March 2005 05:34 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm actually a really stereotypical computernerd. I like gaming, designing web pages, Futurama, Babylon 5 and They Might Be Giants. I collect Invader Zim and Lenore toys. I have thick nerdy librarian glasses. I actually find network architecture and new broadband tech interesting.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 24 March 2005 05:37 (twenty-one years ago)

*picks nose*

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 24 March 2005 05:37 (twenty-one years ago)

ooh! that's a good idea for a thread (it's not directed at you, Kenan!) -- I haven't used that word since elementary school!

Remy (x Jeremy), Thursday, 24 March 2005 05:39 (twenty-one years ago)

apple using, short dark hairing, private art school attending, noise listening, bright color wearing, harp playing, vegan, vinyl loving, wealthy parented, theory-based majored, thrift store shopping, delirium drinking, chicago undergrad.
i never realized i was so hate-able.

Holly (an appletross), Thursday, 24 March 2005 06:36 (twenty-one years ago)

You could've just said "private art school attending."

Not hatable, though.

sunburned and snowblind (kenan), Thursday, 24 March 2005 07:49 (twenty-one years ago)

1. underachieving gen-xer with a shitty attitude and a potty mouth. yup.

2. "arrogant, latte-sipping northeastern elitist." i fear that i come off like that in some of my more recent posts. though my paycheck ain't elitist. and see stereotype #1!

Eisbär (llamasfur), Thursday, 24 March 2005 07:56 (twenty-one years ago)

I think my thing is that I started out life as such an unpleasant stereotype. I was a hick, my family were hicks, we lived in a trailer, ate Hamburger Helper for weeks at a time, I never got new clothes, etc. I imagine most of the reason I hate the South so much is because my life was so rotten there. But you don't want to abandon your "roots," you know? So after I felt I owned enough Sonic Youth albums and satisfied the basic criterion for that particular stereotype, I moved on to Willie Nelson albums, as a sort of surrogate Texas lifestyle that wasn't as shitty as my parents' but was still "real." And then I went through a long hip-hop phase. And now all of these phases are running kinda concurrently, since none of them ever ended, and I don't really know who I am exactly, but I'll be damned if I'm that little boy who grew up in a trailer.

sunburned and snowblind (kenan), Thursday, 24 March 2005 08:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Ahem. Except that I am.

sunburned and snowblind (kenan), Thursday, 24 March 2005 08:03 (twenty-one years ago)

i hope you still wear overalls with no shirt underneath.

Holly (an appletross), Thursday, 24 March 2005 08:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Yup!

sunburned and snowblind (kenan), Thursday, 24 March 2005 08:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Holly (an appletross), Thursday, 24 March 2005 08:07 (twenty-one years ago)

heh... I just took a photo and called it "hick.jpg." I don't look as much like a hick as you probably wanted, though.

What stereotype am I? Quick, tell me!

sunburned and snowblind (kenan), Thursday, 24 March 2005 08:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Holly (an appletross), Thursday, 24 March 2005 08:17 (twenty-one years ago)

I've settled, I guess. Damn.

sunburned and snowblind (kenan), Thursday, 24 March 2005 08:20 (twenty-one years ago)

i'd have more respect for you in overalls with no shirt, sort of. well, only in a novelty sort of way.

Holly (an appletross), Thursday, 24 March 2005 08:21 (twenty-one years ago)

I do not own overalls. I have been known to remove clothing and post pics here, though.

sunburned and snowblind (kenan), Thursday, 24 March 2005 08:22 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm glad you do not own a trucker hat, that's not even trashy these days.

Holly (an appletross), Thursday, 24 March 2005 08:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Holly (an appletross), Thursday, 24 March 2005 08:28 (twenty-one years ago)

That's the guitarist from Southern Culture on the Skids. He's great. One of the best shows I've ever been to. They threw fried chicken into the audience and held a limbo contest.

sunburned and snowblind (kenan), Thursday, 24 March 2005 08:29 (twenty-one years ago)

fried chicken and limbo = disaster
zombies and limbo= PARTY

Holly (an appletross), Thursday, 24 March 2005 08:31 (twenty-one years ago)

You rich elitist. "Well la-di-da! I don't like fired chicken!"

sunburned and snowblind (kenan), Thursday, 24 March 2005 08:33 (twenty-one years ago)

fried, even.

sunburned and snowblind (kenan), Thursday, 24 March 2005 08:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Hi, Holly. Why don't you come to FAPs?

sunburned and snowblind (kenan), Thursday, 24 March 2005 08:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Holly (an appletross), Thursday, 24 March 2005 08:41 (twenty-one years ago)
