Whatcha waiting, whatcha waiting for ...

I am currently waiting for the following:

Phone call to tell me if I will soon be full-time employed (I am thinking they would have called by now if I were to be, but who knows...)

The new washing machine to be delivered (hurrah - new washing machine - I am sadly excited by this).

PR person to get back to me and tell me if my request was within the realms of sanity (it isn't, but then again you never know).

The first of these is obv. the one that is looping me into knots.

I am not used to all the waiting things stacking up into one afternoon. I feel slightly like I did as a teenager when I'd spend hours in my bedroom waiting for my life to start.

So Ilx - what are you waiting for?

response from scathing email I sent to 2 managers today, asking them why they are so fucking complacent.

Thanks Nath. Me too.

Anna (Anna), Thursday, 18 August 2005 13:34 (twenty years ago)

I *think* they're called Turkey Brothers. They're from Coatbridge, have played about 20 gigs in 20 years, and once allegedly got The List's single of the week.
This is their first gig in 4 years and, I think, their last ever.

xp

Onimo (GerryNemo), Thursday, 18 August 2005 13:35 (twenty years ago)

Aye, Turkey Brothers

5.30
October
For me to finish this video game that's taking up my spare time, and get on with the rest of my life. But this is the pattern of the last few years, that I'm happiest when I have something to point at and say "That's really holding me back right now, but when it's cleared...". Then when I finish/give up on whatever's been taking all my time, I fill my life aimlessly with tiny bits of the things I thought would occupy me, until I find something else to blame for taking all my time.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 18 August 2005 13:39 (twenty years ago)

Haha yes I thought this sounded familiar.

What are you waiting for?

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 18 August 2005 13:40 (twenty years ago)

"response from scathing email I sent to 2 managers today, asking them why they are so fucking complacent."

Aaaah, you know what they're like, they probably just can't be bothered to reply.

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Thursday, 18 August 2005 13:41 (twenty years ago)

Andrew I read that post as if you had put a date and time on when you are going to finish this game, October at half five.

Ste (Fuzzy), Thursday, 18 August 2005 13:41 (twenty years ago)

motivation to start unpacking or doing laundry or something useful like that. alternately, 1:00 to watch buffy reruns.

and andrew that is so true for me too that it's a bit scary!

Maria (Maria), Thursday, 18 August 2005 13:42 (twenty years ago)

Actually, I just became suddenly inexplicably sad, with the realisation, as I was trying to think up some proper things to be waiting for... and I realised that I wasn't actually waiting for anything. I'm not sure if that's good or bad. Probably bad because I don't seem to be anticipating anything, either.

Win A Lie-Down, Mrs. Davies (kate), Thursday, 18 August 2005 13:48 (twenty years ago)

-i'm anticipating the film 'lord of war'

N_RQ, Thursday, 18 August 2005 13:49 (twenty years ago)

Ste (Fuzzy), Thursday, 18 August 2005 13:50 (twenty years ago)

and 'Land of the Dead' (october)

Ste (Fuzzy), Thursday, 18 August 2005 13:50 (twenty years ago)

(xpost to kate) that may be good if it means you're content! or just that you need to make some weekend plans, maybe.

i'm very nervous about the feeling of waiting sometimes, when life is almost perfect and i'm waiting for one or two last things. it's a very foolish feeling, because this IS life and if i ever do get all my ducks in a row, i'm sure i'll feel like i'm waiting for something else. that's a different sort of waiting, though.

Maria (Maria), Thursday, 18 August 2005 13:53 (twenty years ago)

For the first time in maybe forever I am not really waiting for ANY forthcoming music (i.e. new albums from bands i like or whatever) or films that eagerly. This is a little unsettling.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Thursday, 18 August 2005 13:58 (twenty years ago)

I'm hardly content... it's more like I have trouble getting a care on.

Things I should be anticipating:
1. My "sisXt0r" visiting next week, hanging out with her and her rock star friends, going to festivals and gigs and stuff
2. Shimura Curve gig in a few weeks

errrrrrr....

3. To The Ends Of The Earth coming out on DVD, so I can stop motion pretty Captain Anderson screen grabs WHENEVER I LIKE!!!

But it's not like I'm waiting or anything.

Win A Lie-Down, Mrs. Davies (kate), Thursday, 18 August 2005 13:59 (twenty years ago)

We at BearWatch are awaiting confirmation of a bear sigthing in the area. The bear is a grizzly and is considered extremely dangerous. The bear can be easily identified by a distinct hairless patch around the genital area, giving them the appearance of being bigger than they really are. The bear is male. Please be on the lookout and don't travel alone. I repeat, the bear is male.

andrew m. (andrewmorgan), Thursday, 18 August 2005 16:18 (twenty years ago)

achh. I am waiting for...I don't know what. Inspiration? To feel something other than complacency, malaise and ennui. I am not sad really but not happy in the way that I was as a kid. I think I miss that feeling of carefree, excitement at just waking up in the morning. Now it is just so hard to get out of bed in the morning because every day is the same. Maybe waiting for new television season, since I love television. How dull do I sound? Ick.

Wiggy (Wiggy), Thursday, 18 August 2005 16:20 (twenty years ago)

Code to compile. And then I go home.

Win A Lie-Down, Mrs. Davies (kate), Thursday, 18 August 2005 16:21 (twenty years ago)

I am waiting to be laid off. I've been waiting on this for several months now, and as it continues to not happen I'm getting irritable about it. They are still paying me; they want me to stay on. Yet. There is so little actual work to do and that is making the days unbearable. Is it better to jump off the boat or be pushed?

I'm also waiting for the water to be hot for more tea.

Jaq (who is not a balding Frenchman) (Jaq), Thursday, 18 August 2005 16:49 (twenty years ago)

I am waiting, agonisingly and desperately waiting, to be healthy again!!!! gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah.

I am also waiting in similar pain to see my girlfriend, in either Dublin or Edinburgh, hopefully sometime in the next few weeks.

I am waiting for my thesis result.

The first two are really combining to make me miserable.

"I am waiting to be laid off. I've been waiting on this for several months now, and as it continues to not happen I'm getting irritable about it. They are still paying me; they want me to stay on. Yet. There is so little actual work to do and that is making the days unbearable. Is it better to jump off the boat or be pushed?"

Been there, done that, have the T-shirt in a variety of different colours and designs.

Shortest answer I can give: depends on your financial position, how many other jobs there are out there (it's nearly always easier to get a job when you've already got a job than when you haven't, unless the prospective employer happens to be desperate for someone who cam start immediately, and you're in a far better bargaining position re: your next package), and what the redundancy package is like / what you can persuade your employers to offer you to make you stay (my last employers were so anxious to have me hang around to the bitter end to wind the business up that they paid me several times more redundancy than I was contractually entitled to!).

NB also in the UK you can receive up to £30k redundancy payment TAX FREE - although you do need to be careful what you do with it when you get it, or you could end up shooting yourself in the foot re: claiming any sort of unemployment benefit!).

If in doubt, consult a good accountant - or better still a very naughty one like me.

MY FUCKING SALARY WHICH SHOULD HAVE BEEN IN TODAY BUT WILL BE A DAY LATE BECAUSE MY FUCKING BANK FUCKING FUCKED UP AND MY WEEKEND IS THEREFORE FUCKED UP FUCK

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Friday, 19 August 2005 08:03 (twenty years ago)

I'm not waiting for anything, I'm too busy doing things in preparation for upcoming stuff. I need to read textbooks for a course I start in mid-Sept, I need to sort posters and music and words for my clubnight next Friday, I need to sort out stuff for a DJing gig tomorrow night and perhaps a party afterwards, I need to speak to my editor, I need to reply to a bunch of emails, I need to sort out bills, I need to move out. It's good being busy though.

If I'm waiting for anything then I suppose right now I'm waiting for not-goodwin to come over and ask if I'm getting a brew. And I'm kinda waiting til lunch so I can go and sit on the bench outside the library and listen to the new Rachel Stevens and Tatu songs again.

Affectian (Affectian), Friday, 19 August 2005 08:32 (twenty years ago)
