Words you have difficulty typing

I'm a pretty fast typist, but for some reason certain words just stop me in my tracks. Like 'finance' and 'manager'. I always end up typing 'finanace' and 'manger'. WTF?

There's no logical explanation, they just don't rattle off my fingers as unthinkingly as everything else.

There may be a thread for this somewhere else but I can't find one, yo.

Englightenment.

I always have to go back and correct it to stop it turning into English. Like I did not up there, except I'm going to leave it to prove I have trouble with it.

Enlighsiment. Englightenment. Englishtment.

ARGH!

I thought this was going to about words you have moral difficulty typing. One place I worked, the publisher wrote out his weekly editorials in longhand and had the receptionist type them up. But the receptionist was a pious woman who frowned on all the bad language in the office, and when the publisher used an occasional "damn" or "hell," she would just type dashes and leave them for the editors to fill in later.

gypsy mothra (gypsy mothra), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 15:26 (twenty years ago)

See, there are lots of words I have difficulty *spelling* - such as necessity - but Enlightenment is one of the few that I'm fine writing longhand, but just can't type.

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 17:53 (twenty years ago)

for some reason whenever I have to type "soul" it ends up "sould." Yeah, I know it makes no sense.

zaxxon25 (zaxxon25), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 17:58 (twenty years ago)

"Mnemonic", it's impossible I swear. You'd think that this is a word that would be used infrequently, but I write software in an industry where this is used a lot. Gah. Go on try it, it's impossible.

"i love you will you marry me?"

typical man can't bring myself to type that even though we've been seeing each other for 7 years and the pressure's really on from family and friends etc.

andrew m. (andrewmorgan), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 21:10 (twenty years ago)

when typing obits at the speed of sound:

"Throckmorton" from today's paper is my new favorite name of the moment.

Pleasant Plains /// (Pleasant Plains ///), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 21:11 (twenty years ago)

Despite the fact I've lived and worked there for years, I can't type Paisley. I get as far as the "ai" and then continue by typing my name instead.

I also consistently mis-type Aberdeen as Abderdeen, but I have no idea why that is.

I once tried to post to Sinister about the Trash Can Sinatras and ended up typing then deleting my references to the Trash Can Sinisters about fifteen times. Serves me right for being twee.

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 21:16 (twenty years ago)

Nietzsche: the letters z and s give me awful trouble, the Niet and che bits are okay.

estela (estela), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 21:31 (twenty years ago)

Oh ya, there's this one EVERY FREAKIN' time: Brian comes out Brain. Half the time I don't notice, but he does. Arrrgh.

Wiggy (Wiggy), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 21:34 (twenty years ago)

PP have you read "a short history of a small place"?

oops (Oops), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 21:55 (twenty years ago)

No, I haven't. Is it any good? I get skittish about those Southern "must-read's".

I also can't type most of my passwords correctly the first time.

Pleasant Plains /// (Pleasant Plains ///), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 22:12 (twenty years ago)

CONSTITUTION IS THE HARDEST WORD TO TYPE, TRY IT!

oh this is so true. two semesters of constitutional (contstiutoinal) law have made me hate this word. now i'm thinking of doing my honours in it as well. i think i might have to allocate a keyboard shortcut on my laptop.

gem (trisk), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 23:27 (twenty years ago)

What word(s) do you hate hate hate typoing out?

Leeeeeeee (Leee), Wednesday, 24 August 2005 05:53 (twenty years ago)

Wednesday

Ste (Fuzzy), Wednesday, 24 August 2005 07:14 (twenty years ago)

'friend' usually ends up as 'firned'
'unknown' is better now i had to type it hundreds of times in a week

i think a lot of this stems from a desire to type with alternating hands, if you see what i mean, one character with the left, one with the right etc.

when i'm typing unix command lines "| tee" usually comes out as "| tess". i don't know why. tee would be easier to type.

koogs (koogs), Wednesday, 24 August 2005 07:46 (twenty years ago)

I always find when I type quickly, that I get the word "Grout" wrong, and end up substituting the last letter p for a t, for obvious reasons...
