what, true believers, do you say about all this wallpaper buzz?*

*actually there is no buzz.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Thursday, 27 October 2005 03:34 (twenty years ago)

i've been waiting for a world series sweep thread and this is all that is new since the sox won??

(my walls are just plain white)

nein Socken (nein Socken), Thursday, 27 October 2005 03:37 (twenty years ago)

Oh, for a second I was really imagining a buzz around wallpaper - sort of like the NYC cupcake "craze"

Hurting (Hurting), Thursday, 27 October 2005 03:37 (twenty years ago)

did you see that second out by uribe in the top of the 9th?

i'm surprised one of those chicago fans didn't pull another bartman.

nein Socken (nein Socken), Thursday, 27 October 2005 03:39 (twenty years ago)

I really don't understand how it is that I didn't even know that the World Series was going on until today, let alone that the White Sox (a childhood favorite team of mine) were in it and winning. I mean I haven't followed baseball for like 8 years, but I do go out of my house from time to time.

Hurting (Hurting), Thursday, 27 October 2005 03:41 (twenty years ago)

i always wondered whether donna got any of her stuff printed up, like she was talking about in who designs wallpaper / fabric patterns?

xpost i did not see that out. i think i was asleep. or something. i'm glad for the southside that the white sox won, but man what a snooze. game 2 was everything you could want, but everything else... it was like this game ain't still on right.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Thursday, 27 October 2005 03:43 (twenty years ago)

this might make a nice wallpaper

why doesn't anybody give a shit about wallpaper?

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Thursday, 27 October 2005 18:25 (twenty years ago)

i like wallpaper a lot. homes with wallpaper always look more homey to me, but the wallpaper available in stores is straight up heinous.

i could add another word and write that sentence again, but it would be fruitless.

there's a store in new jersey that sells every wallpaper design imaginable. someday i'll remember the name of it and where it was.

jagged little filly (Jody Beth Rosen), Thursday, 27 October 2005 18:34 (twenty years ago)

i dunno, jagged, my imagination is pretty huge. and it has been stretched to accomodate the outlandish rococoisms of this freak:

ok....

there IS a real buzz around wallpaper, in fact. there are so many incredible designs coming out.

i was about to start a thread about it because i found an incredible finnish wallpaper company recently who still produce designs originating from every decad since the 1920's.

here's a 70's design:

http://www.tapettitalo.fi/tap/kirsikkapuu.jpg

and a couple of 50's ones:

http://www.tapettitalo.fi/tap250/64306_250.jpg http://www.tapettitalo.fi/tap250/69732_250.jpg

these are the sorts of designs that are being aped by alot of wallpaper manufacturing companies at the moment. although i cant imagine anyone else produciing a wallpaper like this:

http://www.tapettitalo.fi/tap250/68230_250.jpg

or this amazing design :

http://www.tapettitalo.fi/tap250/69206_250.jpg

anymore.

although some companies are still doing some really original and exciting desings like these cole and son ones:

or this Kuboaa one, in the greenish yellow that i'm saving up for:

oh man i remember in my parents dining room when i was a kid they had this solid burgandy paisley wallpaper with gold accents that was also FUZZY, like had raised felt on the paisley swirls or something. that was some far out shit.

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Thursday, 27 October 2005 18:51 (twenty years ago)

i have never lived in a house with wallpaper. i have friends who have dug up some pretty wild designs when scraping down the walls on new homes, though. like "who the hell were these crazy people."

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Thursday, 27 October 2005 18:58 (twenty years ago)

i did have wallpaper buzz recently - after finally bringing my camera to a bar in oakland which has the best wallpaper i've ever seen.

i'll post it later you WON'T be disappointed.

nein Socken (nein Socken), Thursday, 27 October 2005 19:03 (twenty years ago)

however!

I am going for this woodland mural across my wall - it's 8'3"high x 13'8"wide and comes in strips like regular wallpaper.

jed_ (jed), Thursday, 27 October 2005 19:10 (twenty years ago)

wow!!

i guess i can't be too surprised that a glasgow boy is a little sick of the deco stuff

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Thursday, 27 October 2005 19:17 (twenty years ago)

my childhood dentist had that (a) woodland mural!

it was like being trapped in a magical crazy land of dragons and scary clowns while waiting to have teeth drilled.

nein Socken (nein Socken), Thursday, 27 October 2005 19:21 (twenty years ago)

:)

just by chance that mural is amost the exact size of my wall (the wall is slightly smaller) and i like the idea of staring at it while i lie in bed.

i want the kuboaa one above for my lounge but it's v expensive - around £40 per roll and i need 3.

jed_ (jed), Thursday, 27 October 2005 19:21 (twenty years ago)

or what about this one?

jed_ (jed), Thursday, 27 October 2005 19:23 (twenty years ago)

i like this one but it's not quite big enough

jed_ (jed), Thursday, 27 October 2005 19:26 (twenty years ago)

have you seen this, jed_? - http://www.single-tapete.de/htmlsite/english/diy_index.html

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Thursday, 27 October 2005 19:32 (twenty years ago)

I think the second mural one is in nick's old flat's livingroom or one very like it is

it a great idea but I don't know if I'd choose it, if I had somewhere I could wallpaper

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 27 October 2005 19:46 (twenty years ago)

wallpaper, in general, that is

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 27 October 2005 19:49 (twenty years ago)

good site, Tracer. pretty expensive though. also if i choose some image of my own for a wall i'd probably end up hating it.

jed_ (jed), Thursday, 27 October 2005 19:56 (twenty years ago)

Well it ALL seems like an enormous pain in the tuckus.
