Meaningless Grammy Awards

More here

The Grateful Dead won their first ever Grammy in a competitive category (Best Boxed or Special Limited Edition Package)!

If you count their 2007 Lifetime Achievement Grammy, they are now tied for Grammys with Wet Leg 🥰

Beyoncé won best dance/electronic music album for RENAISSANCE during the 65th Grammy Awards in Los Angeles Sunday. The prize gave her 32 Grammys, the most of any artist in the awards' history.

"unknown blues singer" - great find

Hey, Raitt! I got a news complaint

sanguisug boggy bogg (Neanderthal), Monday, 6 February 2023 18:19 (one year ago) link

I remember some believing that AOTY winner Nick of Time benefitted from the other nominees splitting their votes (the Traveling Wilburys album and Tom Petty's Full Moon Fever were favorites, and on top of that you have a Don Henley album that greatly benefitted from some of Petty's Heartbreakers). I guess the same thing happened this time around.

birdistheword, Monday, 6 February 2023 18:41 (one year ago) link

(less similar this time around, but maybe they split the "younger" votes while the middle-aged and above became a rock solid voting bloc)

birdistheword, Monday, 6 February 2023 18:42 (one year ago) link

I just think the 10 nominees thing now means the top winners are more of a crap shoot than ever before

i noticed that gangsta boo didn't make the in memoriam, were there any other notable slights?

sault bae (voodoo chili), Monday, 6 February 2023 23:06 (one year ago) link

According toRS:

it felt particularly egregious to overlook Three 6 Mafia’s Gangsta Boo and Low singer/drummer Mimi Parker — two hugely important, dearly beloved artists who apparently didn’t merit a mention. If that wasn’t bad enough, they also left out Aaron Carter, Procul Harum’s Gary Brooker, Sixties folk singer/songwriter Bobby Neuwirth, singer Lucy Simon, Nazareth frontman Dan McCafferty, and drummer Alan White, who played in both Yes and John Lennon’s Plastic Ono Band. The guy played on friggin’ “Imagine.” Like everyone else listed here, he deserved a special Grammy moment.

(I recall Mimi Parker was included in the RRHOF Induction Ceremony's "In Memoriam" segment... so the Grammys apparently didn't even think to at least reference that as a starting point.)

(or, even worse, decided she didn't make the cut)

eleven months pass...

Anyone pregaming(?)

Most of my favorites are being shut out in the early awards… though I will note that Grammys have gone to ILM faves “Padam Padam”; Tyla (“Water”); and Wet Leg (for remixing a Depeche Mode song)

xxpost Oh no, girls stealing awards from real rock groups like Arctic Monkeys and Foo Fighters

Beyond Goo and Evol (President Keyes), Sunday, 4 February 2024 23:11 (four months ago) link

I was rooting for Olivia, but go off. “Not Strong Enuff” is barely a rock song, by any measure

jake morgendorffer core (morrisp), Sunday, 4 February 2024 23:12 (four months ago) link

also it sucks

jake morgendorffer core (morrisp), Sunday, 4 February 2024 23:12 (four months ago) link

I fondly remember the days when ILM rightly didn't give a shit about this nonsense

imago, Sunday, 4 February 2024 23:13 (four months ago) link

I joined in 2006. Don't remember much Grammy chat before the late 10s.

But idk I'm the Grinch, enjoy your silly awards show

Molly Tuttle rightfully won best bluegrass album in a year with a lot of great bluegrass albums.

She might front the best band on the planet right now.

new Taylor Swift album in April called The Tortured Poets Department

Reaction shots of Olivia Rodrigo and Ed Sheehan suggest they're not amused.

guessing it's another Antonoff/Dessner-produced album based on that lol title

Murgatroid, Monday, 5 February 2024 02:34 (four months ago) link

I'm not watching, but apparently Killer Mike just got arrested and escorted out of the Grammy's for something unrelated to the awards ceremony.

Cool to hear "Makeba" by Jain in a commercial. Hell yeah!

Honestly, Miley too… maybe I’m projecting, but I feel like they were all “wtf is this shit” with her big “announcement”

Tracy Chapman and Luke Combs was ok, i sort of wish it was only Tracy as they featured Luke too much

Bee OK, Monday, 5 February 2024 03:03 (four months ago) link

SZA with killing men was over the top

This Jay-Z speech is … quite a ride

badpee pooper (Eric H.), Monday, 5 February 2024 03:08 (four months ago) link

The Jay-Z speech was fun. Also, this Joni Mitchell performance was really good.
