MOBY-"GREATEST HITS"

So I was desperate for something new to listen to and help me god I went to my brothers cd collection, I spied a cd called Moby-Songs and thought "well Go and You Make Me Feel So Real" are good, forgetting about all the other old cheesefests, it's like it's 1991 and everyone's invited, except the sensitive guitar ballads which are worth skipping.

"you make me feeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeel so goooooooood so goooooooooood", I didn't even know that one was Moby.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 28 March 2003 12:08 (twenty-three years ago)

yeh 'Move' is a good track, i really loved that when it came out.

stevem (blueski), Friday, 28 March 2003 12:51 (twenty-three years ago)

has it got 'Bring Back My Happiness' on it - Moby's happy hardcore stint, i think he still does it live sometimes

stevem (blueski), Friday, 28 March 2003 12:51 (twenty-three years ago)

every time you touch me is class. as is that mimi goese one ("into the blue"?)

these days I can't listen to moby without thinking of stouffer the cat's moby medley and guffawing

j0e (j0e), Friday, 28 March 2003 12:53 (twenty-three years ago)

There's a remix of "Go" which is actually better than the original, I think it's called "Subliminal Mix". It's more subtle, not so much a dance track, so you can really hear the Angelo Badalamenti influence. And what about "Hymn"? That one always struck the chord for me. That piano - talk about sentimentality! Of course, I was a teenager back then...

Despite all the recent Moby-bashing I've always liked him. Though he's never been a producer genius, I think his tracks have sincerity and emotion which is lacking in much of today's over-produced electronic music.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Friday, 28 March 2003 13:06 (twenty-three years ago)

"Bring Back My Happiness" is SO FUCKING CLASSIC it hurts.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 28 March 2003 13:26 (twenty-three years ago)

the Woodtick mix of 'Go' is the most popular remix - there's also an 'Amphetamix' with some nice extra piano on it

i kinda like the Westbam mix of 'Feeling So Real' too

stevem (blueski), Friday, 28 March 2003 13:32 (twenty-three years ago)

the Instinct compilations are still t3h riz0x0rz1z0rz.

rave Moby > cheesy newage Moby

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Friday, 28 March 2003 21:02 (twenty-three years ago)

I've said it before and now again: "Voodoo Child" is his only truly great track.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 28 March 2003 21:10 (twenty-three years ago)

You can say that all you want, Spencer, and it won't be any truer. :-P

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 28 March 2003 22:40 (twenty-three years ago)

god I hate this comp--it's chosen and sequenced to mirror Play as much as possible, totally overlooks most of his great ravey stuff, is not representative of his early work at all. search all pre-'95 albums and comps. I even like Animal Rights (ducks)

M Matos (M Matos), Friday, 28 March 2003 23:36 (twenty-three years ago)

Animal Rights is half-decent for the instrumentals, esp. "Living."

I've said it before and now again: "Voodoo Child" is his only truly great track.

but, but, but..!!!

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Saturday, 29 March 2003 02:31 (twenty-three years ago)

Matos, what is the best Moby album?

Burr (Burr), Saturday, 29 March 2003 05:08 (twenty-three years ago)

Move, which is an EP--easily his best. Then in order: Everything Is Wrong in its regular form, Play, Everything Is Wrong: DJ Mix Album, Early Underground, Ambient, Moby, Animal Rights, Rare. I don't like 18 much apart from "In My Heart," "In This World," and "The Rafters"--much his worst album to my ears.

M Matos (M Matos), Saturday, 29 March 2003 07:55 (twenty-three years ago)

i always thought i lucked out when i saw mission of burma in nyc and sonic youth were the special guests. sy sucked, but all my friends were like 'thank god we didn't go on the other night, because the special guest was MOBY!' now i suspect that we actually got the short end of the stick.

Dave M. (rotten03), Saturday, 29 March 2003 08:02 (twenty-three years ago)

moby was ace back in the day: go, next is the e (synthe mix), move, hymn, j.breas, mobility, UHF...

crap now, though.

michael wells (michael w.), Saturday, 29 March 2003 19:36 (twenty-three years ago)

stevem (blueski), Saturday, 29 March 2003 19:41 (twenty-three years ago)

did you hear that "get up and get ill" thing on tongy last night? for some reason it was being relayed by some pirate station here and I listened to it in the car, but then just as he was saying who it was the signal fucked up and I missed it. I was well impressed by the track though, by the sounds of it it's going to be as big as anything else this year.

Ronan (Ronan), Saturday, 29 March 2003 19:41 (twenty-three years ago)

Next is the E: "Cool World" version > Synthe Mix

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Saturday, 29 March 2003 20:25 (twenty-three years ago)

Ronan, can you elaborate? What is this "Get Up and Get Ill" think of which you speak?

M Matos (M Matos), Saturday, 29 March 2003 21:36 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm surprised nobody ever mentiones "Unloved Symphony" (on the Move 12"). The only Moby tune I ever loved, well apart from the Hybrid remix of Southside.

Siegbran (eofor), Saturday, 29 March 2003 21:45 (twenty-three years ago)

Deep Dish and Puff Daddy-Get Up and Get Ill

Set your face to wow Michaelangelo cos I just found out! It's mentioned by Tricia Romano in the Voice in her Miami piece.

Ronan (Ronan), Saturday, 29 March 2003 21:58 (twenty-three years ago)

'Hymn' is complete shit. I used to FF over that one every time. BORING BORING BORING, just like his current output.

Millar (Millar), Saturday, 29 March 2003 23:35 (twenty-three years ago)

album version of Hymn = dud
"This is My Dream" version = classick

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Saturday, 29 March 2003 23:44 (twenty-three years ago)

all versions of "Hymn" I know of except the "alt.quiet.version" = good-to-grebt

oh yeah Ronan I remember now.

M Matos (M Matos), Sunday, 30 March 2003 06:13 (twenty-three years ago)

nine months pass...
A new Voodoo Child album coming out soon:

http://www.jpnm.net/voodoochild/

He's finally making some dance tracks. Who knows if they're any good.

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Sunday, 25 January 2004 23:45 (twenty-two years ago)

(The sample for track one is not a good omen. But some of the other tracks sound all right, so we'll see.)

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Sunday, 25 January 2004 23:47 (twenty-two years ago)

'honey' is the best. i love that to pieces.

hate the rest pretty much.

piscesboy, Monday, 26 January 2004 16:10 (twenty-two years ago)

two years pass...
that most recent moby compilation has lame and predictable focus on play and the other more recent stuff, however the 'go' 12" (with vitalic remix!!) is wicked. (I forgot how good the original was.)

also this promo is excellent, esp the radio slave mix.

slackety yax (H2-H4), Wednesday, 10 January 2007 23:14 (nineteen years ago)

yeh i liked the Vitalic mix of 'Go' - is he yesterday's man on ILM now?

reverto levidensis (blueski), Wednesday, 10 January 2007 23:54 (nineteen years ago)

I think he has maybe been sucked into the lack of interest vortex that surrounds doing a remix for moby.

slackety yax (H2-H4), Thursday, 11 January 2007 00:35 (nineteen years ago)

Pretty sure I'm the only person anywhere who thought Hotel was a good record.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Thursday, 11 January 2007 00:45 (nineteen years ago)

I still pull out his s/t and Early Underground every once in a while. Everything else just doesn't do it for me. (Except "Porcelain" and "Whispering Wind." Those are good too.)

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Thursday, 11 January 2007 01:06 (nineteen years ago)

I was flipping through... some dance mag probably, and they had moby doing a spiel on each track from the comp. apparently one of the hotel singles was MASSIVE in various places around the world, like 'biggest hit in career' size, but it didn't really sell in the UK or US so no-one noticed.

(xp I'll cosign 'porcelain' too.)

slackety yax (H2-H4), Thursday, 11 January 2007 01:07 (nineteen years ago)

Was Hotel at least better than 18? That shit was terrible. He used the SAME FUCKING DRUM LOOPS that he used on Play.

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Thursday, 11 January 2007 01:10 (nineteen years ago)

Hotel was a straight up pop record (in the Moby sense).

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Thursday, 11 January 2007 01:19 (nineteen years ago)

I think "Feeling so real" is the only Moby song I like.

jimn (jimnaseum), Thursday, 11 January 2007 01:28 (nineteen years ago)
