Both of these classic punk anthems are dear to my heart. But which one do you prefer?

latebloomer (latebloomer), Friday, 16 April 2004 03:18 (twenty-two years ago)

The Saints by a mile.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Friday, 16 April 2004 03:23 (twenty-two years ago)

For me, the Ramones came first, but I have to admit..."(I'm) Stranded" is simply superior.i

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 16 April 2004 03:24 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd have to go with The Saints as well ... just the way Bailey sneers "All right!" in the intro alone has to be one of the top moments of the classic punk era.

Broheems (diamond), Friday, 16 April 2004 03:28 (twenty-two years ago)

what everyone else said

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Friday, 16 April 2004 03:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Friday, 16 April 2004 04:43 (twenty-two years ago)

i guess it's unanimous, huh? i love the ramones but "blitzkreig bop" has never been a favorite. whereas i adore the caught-in-a-wind-tunnel guitar sound on "i'm stranded."

J.D. (Justyn Dillingham), Friday, 16 April 2004 04:57 (twenty-two years ago)

This has to be the most consensus I've ever seen on ILM.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Friday, 16 April 2004 04:59 (twenty-two years ago)

can we lock the thread now? put it on ice?

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Friday, 16 April 2004 05:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Can someone dropload me the saints track? Never heard and now quite curious.
I love Blitzkrieg, so it'd have to be awful damn good.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Friday, 16 April 2004 05:11 (twenty-two years ago)

I just want to say that, as I came to punk in a sort of backwards manner, I was extemely familiar with the Saints before I ever gave the Stooges a good listen, especially Eternally Yours, which I consider, along with the Damned's Machine Gun Ettiquette, the 2 best PUNK albums, or at least my favorite, or my favorite of 1979 or whatever, and it's no coincedence that they share a bass player, but anyway, the point is, wow, the Saint's really copped Search and Destroy by the Stooges!

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Friday, 16 April 2004 06:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Nope. Can't choose between them.

mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 16 April 2004 07:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Consensus be damned.

(I'm) Stranded's a great song but Blitzkrieg Bop wins hands down.

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Friday, 16 April 2004 08:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Mr. Snrub (Mr. Snrub), Friday, 16 April 2004 13:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Stranded is not as good as This Perfect Day, but both better than Blitz Bop.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Friday, 16 April 2004 14:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Blitzkrieg Bop better than Stranded but This Perfect Day better than both

Ben Dot (1977), Friday, 16 April 2004 16:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Ed Kuepper better than most of the universe.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 16 April 2004 17:12 (twenty-two years ago)

I've never really felt "Blitzkrieg Bop" was the best the Ramones had to offer. "Cretin Hop" or "Teenage Lobotomy," maybe...or "Gimme Gimme Shock Treatment" or "Pinhead"....but not "Blitzkrieg Bop".

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 16 April 2004 17:31 (twenty-two years ago)

I can't pick, but have to say that I have probably heard that Saints song a few hundred times, yet can never remember how it sounds, so (even though I've been somewhat obsessed with Aussie punk all the way back to Radio Birdman days, despite the fact that neither Radio Birdman nor the Saints sounded a fifth as punk as Rose Tattoo) I've always been stumped about what's supposed to be so great about it. (Maybe one day I'll actually sit down and LISTEN to it, though, and it'll be obvious.) "Blitzkrieg Bop," on the other hand, is at least half as fun, blitzing, bopping, original, and rocking a record as the oddly similarly titled "Ballroom Blitz" by the Sweet, which preceded it by approximately one year, and was a much bigger hit on both sides of the sea. So, hmmm....am I allowed to pick "Ballroom Blitz" instead?

chuck, Friday, 16 April 2004 17:38 (twenty-two years ago)

I've always been stumped about what's supposed to be so great about it.

Stop trying to dance to it and listen to THOSE GUITARS!!!!

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 16 April 2004 17:44 (twenty-two years ago)

you can't do both?

cinniblount (James Blount), Friday, 16 April 2004 17:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Sure ya can.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 16 April 2004 17:46 (twenty-two years ago)

i'll go for blizbop if only to make it less lopsided and also cuz i luv luv luv sports jams

cinniblount (James Blount), Friday, 16 April 2004 17:47 (twenty-two years ago)

chuck is right, "ballroom blitz" is better. though nothing mentioned on this thread is as good as "oh oh i love her so-o."

J.D. (Justyn Dillingham), Friday, 16 April 2004 18:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Okay then.,...

OPO/POO: THE RAMONES

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 16 April 2004 18:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Elvis Telecom (Chris Barrus), Friday, 16 April 2004 19:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Ramones. "I'm Stranded" seems to go on forever.

dave q, Friday, 16 April 2004 20:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 16 April 2004 20:01 (twenty-two years ago)
