Wonderwall - old cow, I know

Whilst listening to Ryan Adams' version of Wonderwall, a friend claimed that Oasis got the song from a sixties song, that Oasis basically covered an old song...
She couldn't name the song or artist, but it made me curious, so:
Does anybody here might know which 60s song she's referring too?

it is not a cover but a reference to a soundtrack by George Harrison.

There was a rumor at the time the Mike Flowers Pops version came out that their version was the sixties original, which might be where the story comes from.
