hey y'all's-

DO NOT MISS: Saturday 6/19 it's X27 & Breaker! Breaker!'s going away
party for their European Tour & it'll be a ton of fun - with dj Jacob
& friends tearing up the dancefloor with hip hop and funk and soul
till super late. X27 & Breaker! Breaker! are both sweaty sexy coed
rawk and roll. Thanksgiving & Dirty Projectors are playing too - two
of the most amazing and intensely original (& youngest - Portland,
Oregonian Adrian Thanksgiving is 17 years old, Dave DP is like 21)
singing fellas out there.

Dirty Projectors is Dave Longstreth - voiced like a crooner from the
1930's belting out chilling melodies over computer beats.
Thanksgiving is Adrian Orange - like a solo Young People, or an un-
cynical Kurt Cobain, or an un-self-indulgent Will Oldham with
restraint - who can sing. Both of these guys are completely uncliched
intensity and sincerity that you will stand in awe over rather than
wanting to roll your eyes. Plus - The Lords from Virginia are
rounding it all out.

a couple of places listed this show as tonight Fri 6/18, but it's
actulally tomorrow Sat 6/19.

[ X27 ]
"X27 is currently a three-piece headed by the dynamic duo of Chicago
legends Rikkeh Suhtn on Electric Guitar and Boy Voice and Carmen X on
Bass and Girl Voice. In the mid-nineties Rikkeh led the Chicago No-
Wave pioneers Duotron into explorations of microtonal and
polyrhythmic pop music that blurred idiot with brilliance. In X27,
Rikkeh re-creates the prehistoric haunted swamp feel of his childhood
homeland in Mississippi with catchy pop hooks. Carmen's twisted
vocals and Sub-sonic tidal waves on bass drown the screams of
childhood ghosts and rips a gash in the human psyche. Instinct takes
over, time is obsolete... past present and future become one. The
members of X27 spew caveman mojo with screeching sound-these orgasmic
blasts ripping thru metallic skies boasting futuristic electric fear.
X27 put their listeners in a primordial genius state of mind where
they're reduced to single cell ooze, dividing and splitting and
dividing again with each splintering note. X27's brutal assault weeds
out the weak and only the strongest survive. Fans will crawl away
from the speakers battered, bruised and naked but more alive than
ever before." - Narnack Records. Full length out on Narnack.

[ BREAKER! BREAKER! ]
"The dirgy disco beat continues coursing through new indie circuitry
like a spit-slicked finger jamming on a cracked electric socket. Case
in point: Breaker! Breaker!, a lo-fi art punk band pairing vocals
that crackle with forceful dance commanders and riot girl cheers,
adding tinny synths that appear to be a couple clicks away from
shooting sparks and guitars that churn on a spin cycle of effects.
The Brooklyn band's debut on Velocidrecords sounds like it was
recorded in stark basement warmed only by the body heat drummed up in
the songs--so what B!B! lack in a more complicated, textured sound
they make up for with an organic, excitable energy that paints the
trio to be heroes of the DIY dancefloor. And sometimes that's all you
need to get the party started." - Portland Mercury. full length out

[ DIRTY PROJECTORS ]
Dirty Projectors is Mr. Dave Longstreth, 20, of New Haven,
Connecticut - one time pop crooner now crooning over computerised
experimental beats and sampled found sounds. The resulting
transformation is familiar while all the while more textured and
interesting than the straight on pop Dave used to produce. It's still
chilling though, just more restrained and more mature, and way more
out there. "Dwelling within the emotional ambiguities and
contradictions that have always tortured the sensitive ones, the
Dirty Projectors offer songs bursting with melodies that seem to have
been sent from some beautiful and erratic netherworld. The songs
surprise and deceive, constantly defying our expectations of
emotional and musical resolution." - Western Vinyl. Dave has five
full lengthy albums on as many labels. "This is scary, evocative
music, like an Alan Lomax field recording of a dusty, punk troubadour
from the imaginary past; Kid A covered under 80 years of dust and
gloom, only exchange the robots and clones for forests and abandoned
farmhouses. Dave Longstreth is making his own fucked-up version of
American music." - Dusted Magazine

[ THANKSGIVING ]
Portland, OR's Adrian Orange has been playing shows since he was 10
years old, writing songs since before that, but do not take him for
another Connor Oberst or Ben Lee or even a Dave Longstreth. With an
almost possessed intensity, Adrian writes and sings songs with a
healthy touch of morbidity and overwhelming passion, pared down to
just downward strums on bar chords - stretched together by haunting
lyrics that belie more meaning than his unpretentious delivery could
lead you to believe. be not afraid - there's no emo here though,
these are anthems. For comparison's sake, think a solo Young People,
or an un-cynical Kurt Cobain, or an un-self-indulgent Will Oldham
with restraint - who can sing. Completely uncliched intensity and
sincerity that you will stand in awe over rather than wanting to roll
your eyes, Adrian Orange is a rare singer and songwriter who
effortlessly and uniquely sings and writes songs that sound nothing
like a singer-songwriter. Full length on Phil Elverum's new label
forthcoming.

Todd P, Friday, 18 June 2004 15:22 (twenty-two years ago)

every tiny shit NYC show doesnt have to pimped on this board...

anyone on this board that would go to to this show, probably knows about it ALREADY.

I'm just saying.

ddb (ddb), Friday, 18 June 2004 15:36 (twenty-two years ago)

sorry Todd dude I'll be at Trad Gras.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 18 June 2004 15:36 (twenty-two years ago)

maybe there should be a separate PIMP MY SHOW board.

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Friday, 18 June 2004 15:39 (twenty-two years ago)

there are enough frivolous threads on this board that clogging it further is hardly a big concern of mine - I mean seriously, at least I'm actually talking about music here.

besides, this kid Adrian Orange who's playing is someone y'all will all be talking about like there's no tomorrow come next year.

todd p, Friday, 18 June 2004 16:04 (twenty-two years ago)

does he hang out with shmevendra badfart?

cutty (mcutt), Friday, 18 June 2004 16:06 (twenty-two years ago)

maybe 30 years from now I'll care. I dig old crusty Swedish psych dudes.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 18 June 2004 16:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Frivolous is one thing...but PIMPING is another.

at least I'm actually talking about music here.

How is C&P'n show information with reviews from other people, YOU TALKING ABOUT MUSIC?

besides, this kid Adrian Orange who's playing is someone y'all will all be talking about like there's no tomorrow come next year.

I'll bet you $100 I won't be.

ddb (ddb), Friday, 18 June 2004 16:10 (twenty-two years ago)

I think people should post whatever the hell they want, including todd p shows.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 18 June 2004 16:11 (twenty-two years ago)

I bet you $200 that you have more time on your hands any given Friday night to sit and bitch about minutia and play with your internet connection than I do.

Todd P, Friday, 18 June 2004 16:12 (twenty-two years ago)

you're gonna owe me $300 now.

ddb (ddb), Friday, 18 June 2004 16:13 (twenty-two years ago)

btw, I forgot to address the statement that I hadn't talked about music in this email-

I wrote the meat of the descriptions of both Thanksgiving and Dirty Projectors, both folks that I admire a lot. Plus I wrote the recommendation at the top of the page for the whole show. Hardly just cutting and pasting, it takes time to write those blurbs, and I don't have a lot of it. I sincerely hope folks do come to this show, and I don't really give a fuck about whatever internet decorum I break getting the word out. Not because it serves me especially (I do my show thing as charity - no profit) but because the music is really worthwhile.

as for the !!! party, that'll just be a helluva good time, thrown by folks with really good taste & music knowledge & record collections whose band happens to be getting really popular at the moment - a rare bit of justice in the music world that's worth celebrating I think.

Todd

Todd P, Friday, 18 June 2004 16:45 (twenty-two years ago)

ddb (ddb), Friday, 18 June 2004 16:48 (twenty-two years ago)
