So I was imagining a compilation in which each and every song described an unpopular high-school archetype - derogatorily, if possible - and I actually got to thinking I'd like to make said CD.

So, bring your best for the comp - a standard 80 minute. And I'm thinking that the CD might aquire some sort of poignancy if I were able to find songs from my own alternatively misspent adolescence, say 1989-1996. But not exclusively

Beck - Loser
Eels - Beautiful Freak
Garbage - Queer

more?

I hesitate recommending this to anyone, but that damn Crash Test Dummies song "Mmm Mmm Mmm" would fit in well.

Radiohead - "Creep" is perfect for this too.

Gear! (Gear!), Sunday, 20 June 2004 01:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Marc Almond - Beautiful Losers

Amarga (Amarga), Sunday, 20 June 2004 01:53 (twenty-two years ago)

heh, Gear, there's a thread connex. re. the Crash Test Dummies song. When I was like 15 I used to listen to it with the lows and highs cranked and the mids squashed down to try to drown out the vox.

cRaiG (craig!), Sunday, 20 June 2004 07:02 (twenty-two years ago)

just about anything from "the defeated" by new waver fits the bill. weird, upbeat electronic music with sampled dialogues of harassment and nerddom.

peter smith (plsmith), Monday, 21 June 2004 12:51 (twenty-two years ago)

It being the title of a Korn song doesn't make that any less of a possibility.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 21 June 2004 12:54 (twenty-two years ago)

No class, no job
I'm just a victim of society a slob
No ass, no head
I gotta go home and jack off instead

No mind, no kind
My brain is jelly and my memory is blind
No way, no way
I cannot live in a world this gay

scott seward (scott seward), Monday, 21 June 2004 13:02 (twenty-two years ago)

peter smith (plsmith), Monday, 21 June 2004 13:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, what a great song. Given the band name, it must be more than coincidence that it sounds so much like Beefheart. Anybody know the Elastik Band story?

briania (briania), Monday, 21 June 2004 13:26 (twenty-two years ago)

tell me which ones you eventually choose, huh?

doc, Monday, 21 June 2004 15:52 (twenty-two years ago)

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 21 June 2004 16:10 (twenty-two years ago)

allmusic calls the elastik band offensive, doesnt it? when did spazz/spaz change from meaning epileptic/handicapped person to meaning generic freak?

peter smith (plsmith), Monday, 21 June 2004 16:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Nirvana--Negative Creep
Dead Kennedys--Ill In The Head

Stephen Boyle (SBoyle), Monday, 21 June 2004 16:55 (twenty-two years ago)

New Model Army's "Ballad Of Bodmin Pill". One of the best songs ever by one of the best bands ever--fits the bill, too.

The Fall's '10 Points' should obviously be the centrepiece of the CD.

Sara Sherr, Monday, 28 June 2004 05:32 (twenty-one years ago)

"wait - are you serious? theres a korn song called faget?
-- peter smith (plsmit...), June 21st, 2004"

yeah, it's about how jonathan davis (korn's singer) was teased and taunted in high school for being a new wave lovin' sissy.

my own song to nominate would be "Mommy Can I Go Out and Kill Tonight" by the Misfits.

latebloomer (latebloomer), Monday, 28 June 2004 06:39 (twenty-one years ago)
