Just read a review of this in Signal to Noise - why haven't I heard anything about this? Henry Flynnt's 'rock' band? Doing anti-war songs?? PLEASE tell me this is half as good as it sounds...

one n, and no I haven't heard the Insurrections stuff, but most of the other stuff of his I've heard has been awesome.

it's pretty good. kinda godzian, with country elements. punk as fuck.

By the way, Godz had plenty of country elements

actually reminds me of the Fugs quite a bit. Fugs meets Godz at a square dance during the yippie protests at the stock market?

I have Graduation, Raga Electric, Spindizzy and I Don't Wanna. I'm pretty fascinated by his stuff but I don't love it all. Sometimes I'm like, this is just instrumental bluegrass or whatever, but on the better pieces he goes so deep with it...

following that link I realize I already made the fugs comparison. oh well.

i still think his best one is You Are My Everlovin' / Celestial Power. each song takes up one disc, actually a different version of one of them is the last track on Graduation (I think). but this one i love and consider to be some of the best minimalist, drone, out-there recordings from that period. i've heard the other albums (except Raga Electric) but they pale in comparison.

screw you! "c tune" blows those away! there can be only one 45-minute fiddle and tamboura raga!

i dug "i don't wanna".

I love this record. Sort reminds me of the mephis goons or the godz

I need to get more Flynt. I've only got You Are My Everlovin' / Celestial Power, Graduation, C Tune and Raga Electric (which might be my favorite one). Need the Back Porch Hillybilly Blues ones and this one.

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 15:10 (twenty-two years ago)

haven't heard C Tune, so yeah, screw/bolt/nail me.

I don't really like the insurrections disc, strangely enough.
love the tamboura accompanied stuff and some of the more dynamic "bluegrass" pieces. his writing on psychedelics, la monte young, and other stuff is a+ crackpot amazing.

I think the insurrections disc is fun, I certainly didn't like it as much as I hoped, it's like a cross between the Fugs and the Velvets, but not nearly as good as either.
