Happy Mondays. Featuring Rowetta and Bez!

(This is actually true.)

mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 21 January 2005 17:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Is it just for a tour or are they recording new stuff?

Nick H (Nick H), Friday, 21 January 2005 17:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Happy Mondays or Shaun Ryder and some session musicians?

The Horse of Babylon (the pirate king), Friday, 21 January 2005 17:34 (twenty-one years ago)

i heard about a gig of theirs at the Razzmatazz in Barcelona not too long ago...apparently it sucked

manuel (manuel), Friday, 21 January 2005 17:36 (twenty-one years ago)

What reality TV shows have the rest of the band been on? Crimewatch doesn't count

Dadaismus (Dada), Friday, 21 January 2005 17:38 (twenty-one years ago)

how have they decided this when bez is still locked up in the big brother house, eh?

(or is he out? i dunno, i got very bored with it after the second minute.)

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Friday, 21 January 2005 17:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, if you were offered shitloads of cash to do nothing more than wander about on stage aimlessly shaking some maracas would you quibble?

Dadaismus (Dada), Friday, 21 January 2005 17:44 (twenty-one years ago)

not only the Mondays, but........The Farm. with the Clone Roses. (shudder)

zappi (joni), Friday, 21 January 2005 17:53 (twenty-one years ago)

i always confuse bez with that dark-haired guy from 'men behaving badly'. it is not the same guy, is it?

Jay-Kid (Jay-Kid), Friday, 21 January 2005 17:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, if you were offered shitloads of cash to do nothing more than wander about on stage aimlessly shaking some maracas would you quibble?

ah, but bez is pure mad mental, man, so he might.

unlikely, though.

the farm! wow. i had a picture of keith out of the farm on my english folder in lower sixth (1991). another lad in the class had a big picture of gedge. actually, it was admiring gedge's haircut that got me into the weddoes. this is true.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Friday, 21 January 2005 18:02 (twenty-one years ago)

right, well, according to that virtual festivals site the mondays have got a new guitarist called "kav", so ... this ain't the proper mondays. it'll be sean, bez, paul, rowetta and a handful of hired hands, i imagine. boo.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Friday, 21 January 2005 18:04 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't really feel as though it's the Mondays without "knobhead".

KeithW (kmw), Friday, 21 January 2005 18:14 (twenty-one years ago)

exactly. the classic line-up of X, bez, [whatever they called paul], moose, knobhead and, um, gaz.

knobhead! heheh, what a hapless chap.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Friday, 21 January 2005 18:45 (twenty-one years ago)

The Happy Mondays are the reason it's OK to hate British people.

Eppy (Eppy), Friday, 21 January 2005 19:05 (twenty-one years ago)

That comment is the reason it's OK to hate you.

Masked Gazza, Saturday, 22 January 2005 01:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Paul was Horse. And show some respect, it's PD Knobhead.

(I don't remember Day being Moose though)

kit brash (kit brash), Saturday, 22 January 2005 03:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Because he was Cow actually!

kit brash (kit brash), Saturday, 22 January 2005 12:26 (twenty-one years ago)

hey, "cowhead" ... that rings a bell too. but i vividly remember him being referred to as moose.

hang on ...

... right, according to the guru bez, in his legendary tome "freaky dancing", "horseman is dad to X an horse" (p166), which makes sense (kind of) ...

... can't find a bloody thing about any of the rest! ah, here we go.

This time round the cohesion began to go a little awry an then decidedly pear-shaped as X kept stoppin it, turnin on Moose in a fit of frustration, 'Moose, you're not playin that bit!'
'What bit?'
'You know, that bit, ping dring stringy bit.'
'You mean this?'
Moose began to ping dring in a Moosey kind of way.
(p149)

so there we go.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Saturday, 22 January 2005 13:31 (twenty-one years ago)

as if you can trust Bez's memory!

kit brash (kit brash), Saturday, 22 January 2005 14:10 (twenty-one years ago)

OMG! THere R Peeple Who Still Listen Happy MOndays!!!

scott seward (scott seward), Saturday, 22 January 2005 14:53 (twenty-one years ago)

That thread is so hilarious I can't even read it all without laughing so hard I can't read the rest.

PILLS/THRILLS/BELLYACHES PWNZ.

Bimble, Tuesday, 12 June 2007 14:39 (nineteen years ago)

djmartian, Tuesday, 12 June 2007 14:47 (nineteen years ago)

Does this mean the profits no longer go to his creditors?

stet, Tuesday, 12 June 2007 14:57 (nineteen years ago)

I admit I haven't been catching up on the Factory mailing list for a few months now. My bad.

Bimble, Tuesday, 12 June 2007 15:02 (nineteen years ago)

ugly cover.

funny farm, Tuesday, 12 June 2007 15:51 (nineteen years ago)

i like it, its like a cousin to the live lp

696, Tuesday, 12 June 2007 16:25 (nineteen years ago)

They were supposed to play in NYC on wednesday but canceled.

Spencer Chow, Tuesday, 12 June 2007 17:24 (nineteen years ago)

like the cover, hate the title...

henry s, Tuesday, 12 June 2007 20:38 (nineteen years ago)

who else is in the band? mrs fiendish and i were discussing whether it's worth going to see them, but bez/shaun/rowetta plus mooks != the mondays.

that said, the new stuff is meant to be ace. haven't heard any yet, but will check out myspace etc tomorrow.

grimly fiendish, Tuesday, 12 June 2007 23:52 (nineteen years ago)

its on certain sites..

Herman G. Neuname, Tuesday, 12 June 2007 23:55 (nineteen years ago)

wikipedia suggests it's B/S/R plus kav sandhu on guitar and the rest of his band, sonic audio, making up the numbers. hmmm.

howie B producing the album; ry cooder guesting!

it's very interesting, i gotta admit.

grimly fiendish, Tuesday, 12 June 2007 23:59 (nineteen years ago)

I think Black Grape should reunite.

braveclub, Wednesday, 13 June 2007 00:01 (nineteen years ago)

braveclub and garteh both otm, this cover would make total sense as a live album, Baby Bighead Two

(the live DVD from a year or two ago was really terrible, much much worse than the actual show I saw circa 2000.)

energy flash gordon, Wednesday, 13 June 2007 09:29 (nineteen years ago)

four weeks pass...

well, i can't fucking wait.

andi, Wednesday, 11 July 2007 21:49 (eighteen years ago)

I can.

It's not the mondays without Shaun, Bez, Rowetta, drumbloke and guitarbloke!

Mark G, Thursday, 12 July 2007 08:21 (eighteen years ago)

the mondays without mark day is like the smiths without marr.

pisces, Thursday, 12 July 2007 08:41 (eighteen years ago)

There's something unsettling about having a new Happy Mondays album released in 2007 but I haven't put my finger on it yet, maaaaan.

King Boy Pato, Thursday, 12 July 2007 08:52 (eighteen years ago)

You could say it's TWISTIN MAH MELON MAAAAN!!

King Boy Pato, Thursday, 12 July 2007 08:52 (eighteen years ago)

The album is at least not offensively bad. Although bits of it are. Quite a chunk of it is OK-to-fine.

Scik Mouthy, Thursday, 12 July 2007 08:58 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah, I agree. Pleasant little middle-age Mondays record, not bad.

zeus, Thursday, 12 July 2007 09:50 (eighteen years ago)

The thing is, then you play The Rhinohead or Chicken Yiamas and go "actually, Shaun Ryder's an overweight addled idiot".

Scik Mouthy, Thursday, 12 July 2007 09:55 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah, but 'Rhinohead' is a different class - not just for The Happy Mondays, but almost everything this year.

zeus, Thursday, 12 July 2007 09:57 (eighteen years ago)

actually, Shaun Ryder's an overweight addled idiot"

and thats xactly why im liking this record so much. music by utter idiots appeals to me right now.

no, its not everything i want a monday's record to be. but its ambling, stupid, frenetic and far fetched. im digging that right now.

bb, Thursday, 12 July 2007 13:03 (eighteen years ago)

Another reunion just announced.

We've learned that Shaun Ryder, Paul Ryder, Gary Whelan, Bez and Rowetta Satchell, along with former members Mark Day and Paul Davis (not included in the 1999 reformation) are currently taking bookings for gigs and festival appearances.

It's the Mondays!

Mark G, Friday, 20 January 2012 13:45 (fourteen years ago)

very nice, would love to see these guys again

I mean I know it's shameless to keep milking it so much but as far as I'm concerned the fact that Shaun & Bez & and co are still alive 30 years later gives them the right to do anything they want!

frogbs, Friday, 20 January 2012 14:39 (fourteen years ago)

As opposed to what they used to do?

(he jks..)
