"Going to California" - Led Zeppelin

--What the fuck? One of the most gorgeous songs up until the shit bridge about wrath of gods and punches on the nose. I always listen to the first two verses and then skip ahead in disgust.

you're insane.

It adds tension to the song. It's relieved when he goes low again on the word "high". Also, it's kind of funny - in a song that practically deifies a woman, he knocks his own macho mystical rhetoric down a peg while singing in his most womanish register. He's so in awe of Joni that he recognizes that his "wrath of the gods got a punch on the nose and it started to flow". He thinks he might be sinking.

The bridge of "Eyes of a Strangers" by the Payola$ really drops the ball by going all Outfield-y. Great song, otherwise.

That should be Stranger, singular.

The "yakety-yak" stuff in "Battle of Evermore" took me even more time to get used to but now both seem indispensable. I think GtC would be much blander otherwise.

"Bobépine"

by Plume Latraverse

Miserable bridge !

"Negative Love" by John Wesley Harding. It's a catchy pop song and then he runs out of idea so there's a swirl of schmaltzy strings and an unnecessary upward key change.

"I'll Be Back" by The Beatles

Pleasant Plains /// (Pleasant Plains ///), Friday, 18 March 2005 19:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, the Beatles had their share of cheesy bridges. I'm tempted to nominate "Can't Buy Me Love."

Ken L (Ken L), Friday, 18 March 2005 19:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Any bridge where the drums drop out or go half-tempo.

Rick Massimo (Rick Massimo), Friday, 18 March 2005 19:37 (twenty-one years ago)

This thread went nowhere
songs that get to the bridge and then completely blow it

Any bridge where the drums drop out or go half-tempo.

No, those are the best bridges of all. The more contrasting the better.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Friday, 18 March 2005 20:18 (twenty-one years ago)

The bridge to "I'll Be Back" is brilliant. On the other hand, the bridge to "Glass Onion" is meh.

I'd suggest that Alter Bridge single...if the song were any good in the first place. But then that bridge just decimates it. I don't think Creed ever got THAT wanky!

Let's keep the afterbirth and throw Ian Riese-Moraine away! (Eastern Mantra), Sunday, 20 March 2005 13:10 (twenty-one years ago)
