Most ridiculous purchasable ringtone ever.

Admittedly, I don't buy these things anyway, but tonight I saw an ad in which one could purchase REM's "Everybody Hurts" for their phone.

Bling Mope. What the fuck?

John Justen (johnjusten), Monday, 28 March 2005 06:47 (twenty-one years ago)

I think the most ridiculous one is that Sir Mix-A-Lot one where he does a new phone-themed rhyme over the "Baby Got Back" instrumental that was advertised on TV a lot for a while there.

Al (sitcom), Monday, 28 March 2005 07:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, that was actually my second choice.

As a questionable public service I offer this-

haha awesome

Al (sitcom), Monday, 28 March 2005 07:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Hey, I overheard the most amazing ringtone the other day: A fucking bell! Sounded exactly liek an actual no-nonsense bell, like you used to find inside a telephone.

[Which reminds me of this awful pseudo-Steven Wright joke I always use when given an opportunity: If the telephone was invented by Alexander Graham HORNE, rather than Alexander Graham Bell, would he've designed phones to HONK, rather than ring?]

Myonga Von Bontee (Myonga Von Bontee), Monday, 28 March 2005 07:46 (twenty-one years ago)

You know the Crazy Frog one that's all over the place? And the Sweetie the Chick one that's just as bad? Yesterday I saw an ad for Crazy Frog vs Sweetie the Chick, which looks and sounds like the true definition of hell on earth.

ailsa (ailsa), Monday, 28 March 2005 08:40 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't understand Crazy Frog - what is it exactly? Please tell me it's more than you can just download that frog yammering away as your mobile ringtone?

dog latin (dog latin), Monday, 28 March 2005 08:46 (twenty-one years ago)

No, I think that's about the size of it, though I don't profess to be an expert. Watch any cable music station for about ten minutes and you'll want to hurl your remote through the telly.

ailsa (ailsa), Monday, 28 March 2005 09:02 (twenty-one years ago)

wow, i've managed to miss "sweetie the chick". i'm obviously officially old.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Monday, 28 March 2005 12:27 (twenty-one years ago)

You haven't been watching VH1's "500 best British songs" all weekend then? It's been on every bloody ad break and it's making me want to hurt myself.

ailsa (ailsa), Monday, 28 March 2005 12:32 (twenty-one years ago)

I am somewhat ashamed to admit that I drunkenly bought the Sir Mix-a-Lot one the other night, and all my friends took turns calling me to hear it. It got progressively less funny as the night went on.

I'm still disgruntled that I spent all that money on the Sidekick II and can't even upload a decent ringtone to it. I can't even download Old Phone!

Daniel Cohen (dayan), Monday, 28 March 2005 12:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Hey, I overheard the most amazing ringtone the other day: A fucking bell! Sounded exactly liek an actual no-nonsense bell, like you used to find inside a telephone.

That's actually one of the default ringtones on my Sony Ericsson (I think it's a T610). This phone comes with like 20 of them, and none of them sound like a normal digital phone ringing. Either you pick one of the 19 lame little songs, or you have that bell one which is probably the most obnoxious IMO.

sleep (sleep), Monday, 28 March 2005 13:37 (twenty-one years ago)

spinal tap: big bottoms.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 28 March 2005 13:58 (twenty-one years ago)

They're all ridiculous.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 28 March 2005 14:35 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't think there's any way a ringtone can get more ridiculous than the monstrosity I have on my phone.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 28 March 2005 14:40 (twenty-one years ago)

I downloaded "Freddie's Dead" as a ringtone a few months ago. I no longer use it.

Funny thing about the ringtone commercials: for the Snoop Dogg one, they asterisk and bleep out the word "Gin". WHAT THE FUCK?

Stupornaut (natepatrin), Monday, 28 March 2005 15:05 (twenty-one years ago)

J.J.said he was mystified, because people asked about having "Lost" ringtones, and he was thinking, "what, one note?" Jorge said "yeah, you hang it up and it goes 'dooooong!'"

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 28 March 2005 15:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Sweety Showtime owns this thread -- that Jamster thing all over Myspace and AIM and Yahoo! Mail.

What we want? Sex with T.V. stars! What you want? Ian Riese-Moraine! (Eastern Ma, Monday, 28 March 2005 17:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Ringtones make me hate music. When I am Supreme Emperor of Earth, all mobile devices will have one setting, vibrate.

Austin S (Austin, Still), Monday, 28 March 2005 19:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Kinky!

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 28 March 2005 19:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Why, whaddaya know! I'm sitting here in the library and I just heard a square wave version of "Tocatta and Fugue in D Minor" go off at approximately 130 dBs!

Austin S (Austin, Still), Monday, 28 March 2005 20:16 (twenty-one years ago)

The most ridiculous ringtones are all found in those new sample based mobile phones.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Monday, 28 March 2005 23:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Inspired me to create this thread:
What is your ringtone?

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Monday, 28 March 2005 23:06 (twenty-one years ago)

I have "Yeah" (Usher and friends), because it has a synthy sound and the old-timey phone ringing sample is actually IN THE REAL SONG!

schwantz, Monday, 28 March 2005 23:25 (twenty-one years ago)

The ringtone of Cage's 4'33" is pretty ridiculous.

Ferlin Husky (noodle vague), Monday, 28 March 2005 23:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Wow, Dan, your ringtone must be bad, because (no lie) I tried to go to the link and it crashed my browser with an infinite loop of "Javascript error".

Your ringtone holds dark evil power...

John Justen (johnjusten), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 01:07 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm making my own ringtones by cropping audio files. Right now I clippsed part of that "JUST SHAKE YOUR ASS BITCHES LEMME SEE WHAT U GOT" song out of a Kid 606 mix...
