A question.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 01:47 (twenty-one years ago)

I like Justin swearing. I like the tune. I don't really think Snoop's raps are much cop nowadays.

Ferlin Husky (noodle vague), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 01:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Tim! Don't let the noise dudes read this!

You might be right

who's asking? (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 01:54 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't like it. At all.

The Brainwasher (Twilight), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 02:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Hi Adam.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 02:04 (twenty-one years ago)

I fucking hate this song.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 02:26 (twenty-one years ago)

eh. Top 25.

The Good Dr. Bill (The Good Dr. Bill), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 02:26 (twenty-one years ago)

dudes this song is GREAT. you've never all been so wrong!

who's asking? (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 04:21 (twenty-one years ago)

feh to the Justin haters. between this song and catching a rerun of the episode of SNL he hosted I'm in love with the skinny jackass all over again.

Al (sitcom), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 04:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Definitely top 10 for me! It's basically just Snoop's "Beautiful" meets JT's "Rock Your Body," but I loved both of those songs, too.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 04:25 (twenty-one years ago)

very true!

who's asking? (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 04:29 (twenty-one years ago)

"Signs" is good, don't get me wrong, but nothing will surpass "Hate It Or Love It."

Roadkill Bingo (Roadkill Bingo), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 04:30 (twenty-one years ago)

feh to the Justin haters

If you strike us down we shall become more powerful etc.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 04:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I like it. But it's no single of the year. That still belongs to '1 Thing'!

Roz, Tuesday, 29 March 2005 04:56 (twenty-one years ago)

TURN OFF DA LIGHTS

The Good Dr. Bill (The Good Dr. Bill), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 05:03 (twenty-one years ago)

I get the feeling if I had said "Turn off the lights" someone else would have said "1 Thing."

Roz, Tuesday, 29 March 2005 05:09 (twenty-one years ago)

I think me and Matt Chesnut are the only ones repping for Tweet, actually.

The Good Dr. Bill (The Good Dr. Bill), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 05:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Not until August.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 05:19 (twenty-one years ago)

I love this song! so...summery.

The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 07:54 (twenty-one years ago)

I thought Usher officially banned JT from dancing. Anyway, This song is like a xerox of 2003. I predict I'll dance to this while surrounded by a lot of women.

BARMS, Tuesday, 29 March 2005 08:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Are you serious?

It sucketh. Serious.

maria b (maria b), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 08:33 (twenty-one years ago)

the horns remind me of 'sussudio'

jake b. (cerybut), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 08:58 (twenty-one years ago)

More discussion: searchsearchsearch: The Neptunes

JoB (JoB), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 09:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Nah, the Amerie song is.

It's okay and, as someone observed, it does sound like 'sussudio', which isn't suprising as Pharrel is a big Phil Collins fan.

Jimmy Mcnulty, Tuesday, 29 March 2005 09:54 (twenty-one years ago)

I hated this song before I knew that Justin sang on it but thanks for playing.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 13:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh this song is fucking great, its very much the perfect spring song to me. I'm not sure I quite like how its mixed though, i heard it when i was out last night and it sounds a bit smothered compared to, say, "how we do" where every 'instrument' seems to have its own very well defined sonic space. I donno if i'm making sense.

djdee (djdee2005), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 13:24 (twenty-one years ago)

the horns remind me of 'sussudio'

That's why this is the SINGLE OF THE YEAR so far.

Leon Bluth (Ex Leon), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 13:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Can It be You Send-ed?

Waking Up Onstage at Jumbo's (Bent Over at the Arclight), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 16:54 (twenty-one years ago)

It's okay - not as good as "Drop it Like It's Hot".

o. nate (onate), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 18:44 (twenty-one years ago)

i think nate is otm. i heard this in the pub tonight and thought it was cool. the video is delightfully excessive. but not a *great* track, on first listen.

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 21:44 (twenty-one years ago)

(there was a tv tuned to mtv in the pub, hence i saw the veedeeo)

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 21:45 (twenty-one years ago)

It's good. It's not the best single of the year though.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 21:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I like it a lot more than "Drop It Like It's Hot"

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 21:55 (twenty-one years ago)

HERESY

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 21:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Why?

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 21:57 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't think it's better than "Drop It Like Its Hot" or the remix of "DILIH" actually.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 21:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Just looked at the lyrics. Didn't realize he was rapping on this one, too, about what a cool guy he is because he can hook you up with drugs and because he's a Crip.

So fuck this song.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 22:22 (twenty-one years ago)

hahaha

s1ocki (slutsky), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 22:23 (twenty-one years ago)

hahaha x 2

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 22:25 (twenty-one years ago)

I think the beat for "Drop It Like It's Hot" is one of the best Neptunes beats ever produced. It's nigh-unimpeachable. Snoop could have rapped "Fuck Dan Perry/Boojie bastard needs to die/I'll stick it in his momma/Then I'll shoot it in his eye" and I would have been like, "DAMN THAT BEAT IS HOT".

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 22:26 (twenty-one years ago)

It's no "Bouncin' Back" but it's pretty great.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 22:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Pussy-ass nigga
From a corny-ass town
He can jump up
But I'll hafta beat him down
Thinkin' that he's smart cuz he did the Ivy
Think you can reason while you're on an I.V.?

The Ghost of THAT BEAT WOW (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 22:42 (twenty-one years ago)

I always underrate "Drop It Like It's Hot" (at least in relation to the Neptunes groove for it) because it feels like such a stunt release, like "hey look everybody we still radical things please give us our cred back we're really sorry about that awful Ben Fold Five song we released as N.E.R.D." Which is unfair 'cos it's really fuckin good (though not as good as "Bouncin' Back", true, what is?). My love for the remix and "Let's Get Blown" are less complicated.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 00:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Great song, wish there were more of the keyboard line.

Zed Szetlian (Finn MacCool), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 01:09 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah it seems like the neptunes put their energy into making a relatively 'conventional' number with a straight beat, horns, familiar-sounding bassline etc rather than going radically minimal/skronky. the result is that i cant get it out of my head (i was whistling/singing the hook and got that stuck in the head of a friend who hasnt even heard the thing). if you dontlike this you dont like fun LOLOLOL *explodes*

jake b. (cerybut), Thursday, 31 March 2005 03:56 (twenty-one years ago)

This is a great song. I can't decide if I like it better than Lets Get Blown or not. I think they each have their right place and time.

And word to Zed on "more of the keyboard line".

Johnny Badlees (crispssssss), Thursday, 31 March 2005 04:18 (twenty-one years ago)

the first time i heard it i was like : hum, i already know this song, don't i ??
i really like it. there's nothing new, original, whatever but it's just...fun. far from being genius or even best single of the year but you just feel you're gonna hear it a lot before the end of the summer...
and i can't wait to hear it again (i'm at work)?

AleXTC (AleXTC), Thursday, 31 March 2005 15:49 (twenty-one years ago)

I wasn't really feeling 'Let's Get Blown' but the Lil Jon track on the album, 'Step Yo Game Up', features a quite brilliant guest verse from Trina and must surely be the next single. Drop It Like It's Hot/Signs/Step Yo Game Up make a pretty unimpeachable triptych.

The Lex (The Lex), Thursday, 31 March 2005 16:02 (twenty-one years ago)

I think me and Matt Chesnut are the only ones repping for Tweet, actually.

It doesn't do anything for me.

Lyra Jane (Lyra Jane), Thursday, 31 March 2005 16:26 (twenty-one years ago)

so average

willsmith'switch'isbetterthanthisone, Tuesday, 5 April 2005 11:05 (twenty-one years ago)

the more i listen to it, the more i like it. it's like prince meets michael jackson meets phil collins !

AleXTC (AleXTC), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 11:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Totally. Which is probably why a lot of people hate it, but I love it.

Leon Bluth (Ex Leon), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 12:18 (twenty-one years ago)

I heard the "Drop It Like It's Hot" remix on the radio a few days ago and remembered that I really do like my music batshit insane.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 12:32 (twenty-one years ago)

I think "Drop It Like It's Hot (Remix)" is even better than "Signs," yeah.

Video for this one is spot on, also.

The Good Dr. Bill (The Good Dr. Bill), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 12:35 (twenty-one years ago)

I always underrate "Drop It Like It's Hot" (at least in relation to the Neptunes groove for it) because it feels like such a stunt release, like "hey look everybody we still radical things please give us our cred back we're really sorry about that awful Ben Fold Five song we released as N.E.R.D."

this is a bit involved: it's easier to think that the neptunes make some good tracks, and some bad, and not worry about the cred so much (which was blown well before the last nerd album surely?). thus 'DILIH' is classic, 'signs' a bit of a retread, 'that ben fodls five track' dire.

N_RQ, Tuesday, 5 April 2005 12:44 (twenty-one years ago)

I like this a lot, but I think that has quite a bit to do with my enjoyment of the video. Had I just heard the song on the radio, I might not have paid it much mind.

On a totally unrelated subject: maybe the “Mr. Brightside” vid would have done more for me had the dude who played Finch in American Pie stood in for the singer.

Raymond Cummings (Raymond Cummings), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 13:03 (twenty-one years ago)

"this is a bit involved: it's easier to think that the neptunes make some good tracks, and some bad, and not worry about the cred so much (which was blown well before the last nerd album surely?). thus 'DILIH' is classic, 'signs' a bit of a retread, 'that ben fodls five track' dire. "

No I don't care about the Neptunes cred at all - but "Drop It Like Its Hot" can sound a bit more forced to me because it came right off the back of their most uninteresting stretch. I did suggest I was being unfair, I think.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 13:21 (twenty-one years ago)

I like this a lot, but I think that has quite a bit to do with my enjoyment of the video.

yeah, i agree with this. it's weird cos if you think of it the video's got nothing special/never seen before. it's just like the song : cool and fun.
almost makes you feel cool just by watching/listening to it !

AleXTC (AleXTC), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 15:07 (twenty-one years ago)

EXACTLY.

Raymond Cummings (Raymond Cummings), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 15:39 (twenty-one years ago)

"Let's Get Blown" video had the same effect I think!

Lethal Dizzle (djdee2005), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 18:36 (twenty-one years ago)

haha I read Tim F's Ben Folds riff and thought it was Tim Ellison! I thought, "Gee, that's really out of character"!

Matos-Webster Dictionary (M Matos), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 18:51 (twenty-one years ago)

No video could have saved "Let's Get Blown".

The Good Dr. Bill (The Good Dr. Bill), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 18:56 (twenty-one years ago)

"wait" by the ying yang twins is a top 5 contender.
im really only posting this as a chance to ask anyone with an a capella version of "wait" to either yousendit or gmail it to vaguelythuggish.

nicholas de jong (nicholas de jong), Sunday, 26 June 2005 13:49 (twenty years ago)

I should note I mean the best Snoop Dogg single off of this album. I probably prefer "Gin & Juice" and "What's My Name" overall.

miccio (miccio), Sunday, 26 June 2005 14:05 (twenty years ago)

this song should have been a classic, but isn't. i suggest that all parties involved are going through the motions and are capable of better.

6/10

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Sunday, 26 June 2005 14:13 (twenty years ago)
