This is the thread where we make fun of Jonathan Williams.

Could you uh, post who started that thread? I don't think that people should have any expectation of privacy if they just use it to attack people they don't like.

Thanks!

I'll delete the whole thing if you want.

No, I'd rather have the person outed if you can :/

Dr. Eldon Tyrell (ex machina), Friday, 18 March 2005 01:48 (twenty-one years ago)

sorry, can't.

Wasn't exactly that same thing done w. the 'creepy martin' comment made earlier this year on the 'what do you look like in your underwear thread...?' What constitutes the acceptable guideline for outing somebody / confronting them directly after they've been a dick?

Sometimes ips are traceable and sometimes they aren't. This one isn't.

teeny (teeny), Friday, 18 March 2005 13:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Could you post the ip so we can whois it and see where they are?

Dr. Eldon Tyrell (ex machina), Friday, 18 March 2005 15:33 (twenty-one years ago)

it could easily be a proxy, and in any case nothing even in that range matches anything else. I agree with your main point but I feel a little weird about posting ips when there's no way to know if it's really the user's ip or not. You could ask the lizards to ban that IP, though.

Ahh, gotcha.

Remy (octodog.com) (x Jeremy), Friday, 18 March 2005 16:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Remy - to be fair, I only threatened to out Kenan, he actually outed himself after that.

I have no problem whatsoever with doing this, especially when its regulars anonymously attacking other regulars. If anything it will probably dissuade them from doing so, but it'd be nice to have a coherant mod policy on this one.

Its probably Sara Sherr or whatever her name is

Dr. Eldon Tyrell (ex machina), Monday, 21 March 2005 16:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Agreed. And I do think that privately confronting somebody's generally the best policy. It would be nice if there were, like, a first-second-third offense procedure.

1) Private email & delete comment
2) Private email, public outing & delete comment
3) Ban IP range

just as a suggestion. At any rate, it seems to've taken care of itself, at least temporarily.
