Rob Mazurek's Mandarin Movie - Should I go see them?

Hurting (Hurting), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 04:27 (twenty years ago)

no.

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 04:34 (twenty years ago)

why do people always ask whether they should go see something? go, it's probably not expensive, and if it sucks you can leave. sheesh.

that approach would cost me €24 in entrance fees alone, next weekend

unconscious, honey (FE7), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 04:38 (twenty years ago)

OBVIOUSLY THAT DOES NOT APPLY IF IT IS AN EXPENSIVE SHOW.

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 04:40 (twenty years ago)

Well yeah, but the point was that it's an out-of-the-way hassle show so I want to know if it's really worth going to and if anyone has actually heard this band.

Hurting (Hurting), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 04:43 (twenty years ago)

hurting, you ask too many questions. be more zen, dude.

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 04:43 (twenty years ago)

three shows! all of which possibly suck. xpost

unconscious, honey (FE7), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 04:44 (twenty years ago)

oh fe7affe i thot you just went to expensive techno shows or something. nevermind.

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 04:46 (twenty years ago)

So I told her the dog was named "Free Show"...

sexyDancer (sexyDancer), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 13:43 (twenty years ago)

there was a band in Albany when i was in high school called "Free Beer and Chicken" and i loved and hated them for it.

though i never saw them.

as for this:

Joel had a point. Hurting might have mentioned his potential conflict earlier on.

Its over now.

There is peace in the valley.

And I am the greatest person fuckingever.

bb (bbrz), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 14:32 (twenty years ago)

Cool. So you guys should come see my band at Sin-e on Nov. 1. It's a benefit for Reprieve - an org that helps poor people facing the death penalty and their families.

It's only $10, after all, and if it sucks, you can just leave.

Hurting (Hurting), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 19:27 (twenty years ago)

dude, unless you're paying me to care about your life, i really don't care about your life. dig?

This is so goddamn stupid.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 19:51 (twenty years ago)

I mean, no one's asking you to post, hstencil!

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 19:52 (twenty years ago)

actually, it was a question addressed to no one in particular. dumbass.

yes, i am the only ilx poster ever:

1. abrupt
2. sarcastic
3. perhaps even mean, in my comments.

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 20:10 (twenty years ago)

thank you for admitting that. that is the first step.

sub-dwayne nelson (dr g), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 20:24 (twenty years ago)

and you're a bowl of cherries, pal.

haaaaaa

cutty (mcutt), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 20:32 (twenty years ago)

It's not just that you were abrupt and sarcastic, it was that it seemed so unprovoked and deliberate.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 20:33 (twenty years ago)

dude, unless you're paying me to care about your life, i really don't care about your life. dig?

DIG?

sub-dwayne nelson (dr g), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 20:33 (twenty years ago)

DIG

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 20:33 (twenty years ago)

i have no illusions that you give a shit, dean.

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 20:34 (twenty years ago)

Also, I mean, anyone could post that on every single thread on ILX -- "why are you asking questions about music? who cares?" -- but what would that accomplish?

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 20:35 (twenty years ago)

that wasn't why i posted that. people can ask questions about music. hurting just seems to always ask questions like "should i go to this show?" then he never does. and anyway, who appointed you captain save-a-hurting, jaymc? dude can defend himself (and did just fine).

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 20:37 (twenty years ago)

CMJ Nicolai Dunger/Sufjan Stevens Friday, NYC-- Should I Go?
How are Dunger and Stevens live? What kind of show does Stevens do? I like the Michigan disc but mostly because of the arrangements (lyrics are a little annoying). Kingsbury Manx is also playing who I think are pretty good. Never heard of the other acts:
HALF-HANDED CLOUD 7:30 pm
CASTANETS, The 8:30 pm
KINGSBURY MANX 9:30 pm
LIZ JANES 10:30 pm
NICOLAI DUNGER 11:30 pm
SUFJAN STEVENS 12:30 am

I think the tix are only $15, which seems reasonable.

-- Hurting (Hurtingchie...), October 14th, 2004.

Philly, Nov 13 -- FAG?
This one includes at least two ILMers
at Tritone, Philadelphia, 10pm

Plain Parade (Maria Tessa's booking company) presents:

American Altitude (alt-country/post-rockish outfit featuring Josh "Hurting" Saltzman on drums)

The Teeth (super tight erratic post-punk band)

National Eye (excellent psych-rock band)

Low Skies

-- Hurting (Hurtingchie...), November 6th, 2004.

Fat Cat's NYC
Anyone have any info on this jazz club, where I can get a schedule (if there is one), whether they have a web site, whether it's bring your own, etc.? I can never find anything via google.
-- Hurting (Hurtingchie...), February 14th, 2005.

Should I go see The Books live?
Friend has an extra ticket. I like some of their recorded stuff, but seeing as it's all cut-and-pasty, I imagine their live show must be different. What's it like?

Haha, I was at that Sufjan show that Hurting asked about. I didn't see Sufjan, though. I left in the middle of Kingsbury Manx.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 20:57 (twenty years ago)

Would you say that they are worth seeing live?

sub-dwayne nelson (dr g), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 20:58 (twenty years ago)

They're all right. I played with them once, too.

Who should I go see tonight: The Go Team, American Analog Set, or Jake Fairly?

cutty (mcutt), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 23:13 (twenty years ago)

I don't know why it matters how many threads I post or what they're about. I wasn't aware that I post an unusual number, and if I do, it's not like I'm putting up so many that they're flooding the boards and pushing off other threads. If a thread doesn't interest you, you don't have to read it. As for the live show thing - I think it makes perfect sense. 1) A person may not know if they want to shell out the money and/or go through the hassle. 2) It's an excuse to discuss a band and what they are like live.

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 26 October 2005 00:28 (twenty years ago)

Also if folks are bothered by me posting my shows (such as the one pasted by stence above), just say so, and I won't do it. No one's every said anything, and the FAQ defines such things as spam only if they don't involve a regular ilxor.

Hurting (Hurting), Wednesday, 26 October 2005 00:31 (twenty years ago)

But anyway, this is silly.

walter kranz (walterkranz), Wednesday, 26 October 2005 00:48 (twenty years ago)

xpost Lucky bastard. Even at age 4, I remember getting so excited when a girl asked me to play doctor that I completely froze up. I don't think I broke that pattern of behavior until college.
