Quake 4

Is out today in the UK. That passed me right by. Have just been out to get it--looking forward to it despite the disappointment of Doom 3 (although I've discovered the joy in Doom 3 recently, but that's another thread).

I'm dubious over whether my computer will run it well, but since Doom 3 runs smoothly, assuming they haven't completely changed the engine things should be okay...

I've heard that it runs better than Doom 3. Also, what joy are you talking about? The joy of random monster closets or the joy of turning the gamma all the way up until everything looks like Marathon?

I mean, I p*rated Doom 3 and still felt ripped off. Though Quake 4 looks pretty fun.

Haha. I'm kinda interested in this just because Raven is here in town and I know some of the dudes that made this. I never played anything past the shareware originals of Doom and Quake, though.

Yeah, Raven got the contract for this one, as opposed to Id. I wonder if the level sequencing is as fucked as Jedi Knight II.

I felt bad for not liking X-Men: Legends.

I quit playing X-Men Legends when I hit the timed mission. Fuck timing my shit, I play games to reduce my stress level.

hey, that's a good idea for a thread

S/D: when Games stress you out

I've been playing this non-stop, and have forcibly torn myself away from it for fear of completing it too early (I think I'm actually very far on).

Firstly, the engine is splendid, and runs A-okay. Raven have worked on behalf of id for a while now (Did they do both Quake 2 expansions? Or just one?) and I certainly trust them to do a good job.

The level design is top-notch, and the sequencing is great. It's a shame that the plot twist has been so vocally publicised by id, as not knowing would have been more enjoyable I think...

"Also, what joy are you talking about? The joy of random monster closets or the joy of turning the gamma all the way up until everything looks like Marathon?"

My style of playing FPS games tends to be very catious and thorough, exploring and sniping--I've discovered that this is completely incompatible with Doom 3. Running around like a mentalist and shooting is the prescribed method for maximum enjoyment...

worth buying, then? marks outta 10?

Definitely worth buying, in my opinion... some cons, notably the typically cheesy id-game storyline and scripting, which are okay so long as you can take your brain out before playing... also, the multiplayer is a bit weak (though I have not really tried this out much).

8/10.
