NYC: A Definite Place for the 4th July FAP?

Now that I've found a place to lay my head for next week, just WHERE are we having this FAP thing? I've seen various places mentioned in other threads. However, our almighty event IS coming on hard and fast, here....

Any solid ideas?

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Tuesday, 24 June 2003 21:50 (twenty-two years ago)

there's an internet cafe in Times Square

Millar (Millar), Tuesday, 24 June 2003 21:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Are you talking about Easy Everything? Think we would totally swamp the place...

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Tuesday, 24 June 2003 21:57 (twenty-two years ago)

I say the night of July 4th should definitely be Siberia.

What happens during the daytime, or on the other days, is still up in the air.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Tuesday, 24 June 2003 22:03 (twenty-two years ago)

OK, but where the hell is it? Not as far away as its namesake, surely?

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Tuesday, 24 June 2003 22:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Here 'tis.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Tuesday, 24 June 2003 22:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Looks cool, but is this a definite, or no?

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Tuesday, 24 June 2003 22:34 (twenty-two years ago)

I will cry and stomp my feet and pitch a fit like a three-year-old if it's not a definite.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Tuesday, 24 June 2003 22:45 (twenty-two years ago)

TS: Going to Siberia or seeing Mike like that.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 24 June 2003 23:02 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd pay to see the floor show;>

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Tuesday, 24 June 2003 23:22 (twenty-two years ago)

I've said we should go to Siberia about 57,846 times now people! I AM THE DANCE COMMANDER AND I AM SENDING OUT THE ORDERS FOR FUN AND THIS IS FINAL.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 00:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Siberia is fine for later, but who wants to be inside a stinky bar when fireworks are going off. I propose we meet at Coney Island.

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 02:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Or the South Street Seaport!

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 02:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Lets rent a boat!

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 02:11 (twenty-two years ago)

There might actually be a boat party. Last weekend there were two techno/house boat thingies. We could have the ILX prom we've all been dreaming of.

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 02:13 (twenty-two years ago)

They have those boat parties all the time during the summer. I forget how much it costs though, like $30. It's like what if KTU was a boat.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 02:19 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm all for the boat.

Chris Barrus (Chris Barrus), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 02:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Coney Island is good too though.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 02:30 (twenty-two years ago)

But this seemed like a special breed of boat party, like you buy your tickets at Halcyon and stuff. Yea, I think $30 was at the high end. But who wants to be on a boat when you could be on the C.I. boardwalk eating cotton candy?

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 02:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Anywhere that there is cotton candy is A-OK with me! So then what, do Coney Island during the day, get there afternoonish, and then after fireworks head back into city for bar hop?

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 02:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Sounds great, also, there are good bars in C.I. if we decide to drink there at night and then get decadent and spend the evening at the *Terminus Hotel* right by the train station.

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 02:44 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm seconding boat

Millar (Millar), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 03:57 (twenty-two years ago)

So let's say we're meeting at Coney Island. When should we meet and where in Coney Island should we meet?

NA. (Nick A.), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 11:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Outside Nathan's, Lunch time.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 11:37 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm taking a boat to NY, I'm borrowing my friends yacht and cruising into port. Fear the sailor outfit.

Chris V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 11:38 (twenty-two years ago)

When are the fireworks?

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 11:38 (twenty-two years ago)

after lunch some time? possibly after tea?

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 11:38 (twenty-two years ago)

How about outside of Nathan's at Coney Island at 1:33 PM?

NA. (Nick A.), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 11:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Also P. Diddy will be accompaning me. Ma$e may make a guest appearance.

Chris V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 11:41 (twenty-two years ago)

good, ma$e owes me money.

teeny (teeny), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 12:41 (twenty-two years ago)

The only way I'm going to go to Coney Island ALL DAY to hang out with people I barely know is if I get to lie on the beach in my bathing suit and get a suntan and not eat hot dogs.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 12:46 (twenty-two years ago)

ma$e changes name to ma_e !

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 12:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Chris V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 13:02 (twenty-two years ago)

"aiigh! jellyfish!"

"easy cowboy, it's just an old jimmy-hat"

Coney Island Baby (tracerhand), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 13:04 (twenty-two years ago)

actually now that ally mentions it, it might be fun to have an ilx beach party. MY GOD ALL OF US IN BATHING SUITS!

teeny (teeny), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 13:36 (twenty-two years ago)

I look like the fuckin stay puft marshmallow man in a bathing suit. forget it, im not coming.

Chris V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 13:38 (twenty-two years ago)

But but but Chris you are the LUVMASTER.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 13:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Not in a bathing suit. I'm one of those shirt, shoes, pants, at the beach guys.

Chris V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 13:41 (twenty-two years ago)

So then wear that. No one is saying that you have to go surfing!

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 13:43 (twenty-two years ago)

well maybe this once i can bust out the speedo. give you all the full effect.

Chris V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 13:44 (twenty-two years ago)

the full chris v experience.

Chris V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 13:44 (twenty-two years ago)

bring it!

teeny (teeny), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 13:45 (twenty-two years ago)

oh its already been brought it

Chris V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 13:48 (twenty-two years ago)

The Staten Island ferry is still just 50 cents, right? You guys should meet up on that.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 13:48 (twenty-two years ago)

the plums will be smuggled.

Chris V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 13:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Coney Island on the 4th of July is a madhouse the likes of which yall have never seen.

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 13:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Can we go to Bernie Lomaxs house?

Chris V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 13:53 (twenty-two years ago)

staten island ferry is still free i thought?

gareth (gareth), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 13:55 (twenty-two years ago)

What about Bernie Mac's house?

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 13:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Howard Stern's dog jumped on me the other day.

Hey, we should go to the Bear Bar. I can't find anything on it on Citysearch, but I walked past it the other day so I know it still exists.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 14:01 (twenty-two years ago)

I won't be attending so my opinion should count very little, but just meeting up at Siberia that night makes the most sense. On the other hand, if you wanted to catch the fireworks you could meet up in Battery Park, but that area will be very crowded. On the third hand, everyone could just come up to my roof where I have a perfect view of the fireworks. On the fourth hand, strike the third hand.

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 14:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh no, it's too late now, fucker, I'm coming for your booze.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 14:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Ryan Adams is playing a free show in battery park on the fourth too, so I'm sure that will make y'all stay away.

teeny (teeny), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 14:12 (twenty-two years ago)

My dream is to bang Ryan Adams and then when it's over, sing "Heaven" at him and see if he loses his mind.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 14:15 (twenty-two years ago)

you should all go down there with a load of "play summer of '69" banners.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 14:21 (twenty-two years ago)

"PLAY THAT SONG FROM ROBIN HOOD YO!!"

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 14:31 (twenty-two years ago)

I could get you backstage ally, and I know he likes brunettes!

teeny (teeny), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 14:37 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm there.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 14:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Teeny, pimp to the stars!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 14:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Meh, ally? she's not so famous.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 14:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Ned: Sloganeerist to all of ILX!

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 14:57 (twenty-two years ago)

did you read his review of jess on AILXG?

gareth (gareth), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 14:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Ned: Sloganeerist to all of ILX!

Well, yeah.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 15:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Ned, quick, review Gareth.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 15:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Gareth: Brownmaster.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 15:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Ok, do Spencer.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 15:12 (twenty-two years ago)

*insert comment here* Anyway:

Spencer, Deep-Voiced Technoluvgod.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 15:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Ok now Yanc3y.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 15:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Argh. I'm going to be the Anal-Retentive Hulk and say "Hulk smash anyone who derails thread about where to meet on Fourth of July until someone actually makes a fucking decision about where Hulk and Sarah where meet everyone else." Sorry, but I'm about to have a heart attack from too much coffee.

NA. (Nick A.), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 15:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Nick, don't worry about it, yo! & in any case you should email me since I doubt I'll be hitting the big get-togethers, but we should try to hang while yr here, ya know?

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 15:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Uh, I'm sorry to be a bitch, but the handful of NYCers who are even bothering to be nice and show up at this point have suggested several options. If you wanna pay us to be your tourguides then go for it, otherwise hows about the outoftowners express ANY PREFERENCE WHATSOEVER as to what they'd like to do instead of bitching that we haven't decided?

I really think it's highly unlikely that I will head out to Coney Island instead of going out with my friends to ROckaway and then just returning to the city for the later FAP but stranger things have happened. FYI it'll probably rain anyway, making it all for naught.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 15:26 (twenty-two years ago)

The WWF restaurant is my choice.

Chris V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 15:28 (twenty-two years ago)

It went out of business.

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 15:29 (twenty-two years ago)

That way I can Hulk up in my speedo and feel right at home.

Chris V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 15:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Ally
I wasn't really being all that serious. Except for the part about being anal-retentive, especially about plans, which obviously is my problem. I don't expect anyone to be my tour guide, that's what my NYC-dwelling sister is for. But I'm not going to be much help in choosing a location because, um, I don't know where things are or what they are or what's convenient or cool or fun. My preferences are any place where conversation of some type will be possible. Affordable would be nice, but what the fuck, it's my vacation so I don't really care.
PS, I don't want you to show up to be nice, I want you to show up because you want to meet people from ILX. That's why I plan to show up, at least.

Yancey, you aren't going to see the Fall on the 6th are ya? My sister's NY-Press-editin' boyfriend is supposed to try and get us free passes, but since apparently everyone hates the NY Press that will probably fall through.

NA. (Nick A.), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 15:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Okay, how about in Siberia an hour after the Fireworks. That's what, six, seven?

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 15:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Err... no. The fireworks will most likely start a bit after 9. Not exactly sure what time, but somewhere around there.

Nick, I'm not going to the Fall show, sorry. But I do have all of next week off from work.

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 15:46 (twenty-two years ago)

OK. We'll hold hands and go skipping through Central Park. Email me yr phone number because I don't know if my sister has internet at her house.

NA. (Nick A.), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 15:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, okay, I dunno what's happening, then. Off to Glastonbury for me. See y'all next Tuesday.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 16:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Is everyone gonna be here on the 3rd? Maybe that would be a better night to meet at Siberia? Speaking for myself, I'm not sure after a long day followed with watching fireworks, etc. I'm going to be into going to a bar at night, but that's just me. Others should say what they would like to do.

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 18:04 (twenty-two years ago)

I would be up for meeting at Siberia on the 3rd instead, but I am flexible. 9? 10?

Sarah McLUsky (coco), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 18:19 (twenty-two years ago)

is the cyber cafe right next to cbgb's still open? i may be in nyc on the 4th. depends on my lazy factor.
did the little asian man win the Coney Ilnd hotdoag eating contest this year? or is that this weekend? i wanna go to see his tummy bulge. iz rad.

(peeps, dont meet up at coney on the 4th. its a madhouse)

kephm, Wednesday, 25 June 2003 19:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Siberia sounds fine to me, I'm past caring at this point

Millar (Millar), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 19:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Siberia it seems, then. Cool, by me. As for time, 6 P on the 4th?

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 20:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Sh*t, maybe I will try to go...

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 20:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Spencer, thought you were coming, already....or has the beaches of Spain won out?

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 20:26 (twenty-two years ago)

"beaches of Spain" as it were is on possibly permanent hiatus...

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 20:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Sorry, Spencer. Come along, so you can get proper commiseration (mucho food, joy and wine)

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 20:31 (twenty-two years ago)

OK, Spencer get the hell out tto NYC now... We demand it!

Chris Barrus (Chris Barrus), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 21:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm trying to plan the Food Tour around the major 7/4 FAP action. I wanna put together SOME kind of itinerary, which we can either stick to or break as necessary.

Another tedious meta discussion about the upcoming NYC FAP fun: THE FOOD THREAD

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 21:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Make it if you can, Spencer -- and hope all is well.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 21:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Right. So Siberia, 6PM on the Fourth.

NA. (Nick A.), Thursday, 26 June 2003 11:28 (twenty-two years ago)

It's looking like I can't come. :( Family stuff/finances.

teeny (teeny), Thursday, 26 June 2003 18:56 (twenty-two years ago)

:(

NA. (Nick A.), Thursday, 26 June 2003 18:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Right. So Siberia, 6PM on the Fourth.

Rock, to steal a Raggett-ism.

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Thursday, 26 June 2003 18:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Teeny, so sorry, though...

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Thursday, 26 June 2003 18:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Aw, dang Teeny. :-( Another time!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 26 June 2003 19:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Im not coming either now, no one wanted to give good old chris v a place to rest his dancing head....So I'll be partying in Worcester all by myself and barking west.

Chris V. (Chris V), Friday, 27 June 2003 10:29 (twenty-two years ago)

What? Fuck that. Somebody better give Chris V. a place to stay.

NA. (Nick A.), Friday, 27 June 2003 13:10 (twenty-two years ago)

They fear my running man skillz

Chris V. (Chris V), Friday, 27 June 2003 13:17 (twenty-two years ago)

i get no luv.

Chris V. (Chris V), Friday, 27 June 2003 13:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Chris could stay on the roof of my building, you would've been welcome to stay with me but at 7-8 people at my place I think we hit maximum capacity.

Carey (Carey), Friday, 27 June 2003 13:37 (twenty-two years ago)

roofin it would be fun. until a pigeon shits on me.

Chris V. (Chris V), Friday, 27 June 2003 13:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, I'm staying with my sister so I don't think I should invite people she doesn't know to stay there, especially individuals with such rampant masculinity.

NA. (Nick A.), Friday, 27 June 2003 13:44 (twenty-two years ago)

its ok I'll remember this when you all come to the Worcester MegaFAP! ;)

Chris V. (Chris V), Friday, 27 June 2003 13:46 (twenty-two years ago)

where is the Worcester MegaFAP? Please say it will be at the Worcester Centrum Centre located in Central Worcester, in Central Massachusetts!

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Friday, 27 June 2003 15:07 (twenty-two years ago)

YES!

Chris V. (Chris V), Friday, 27 June 2003 15:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Revive, cuz I'm excited about the trip!

Sarah McLUsky (coco), Monday, 30 June 2003 13:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Do we wanna do a quick roll-call for who's expecting to attend so we can get a general idea of how many people we're waiting for?

NA. (Nick A.), Monday, 30 June 2003 13:15 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm going.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Monday, 30 June 2003 13:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Moi Aussi. (duh)

Sarah McLusky (coco), Monday, 30 June 2003 13:40 (twenty-two years ago)

*raises hand*

Chris Barrus (Chris Barrus), Monday, 30 June 2003 14:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Rah. I'm hoping this slight cough is gone by then but we'll see.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 30 June 2003 14:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Ring-a-ding-ding

Bryan (Bryan), Monday, 30 June 2003 15:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Me too!

j.lu (j.lu), Monday, 30 June 2003 15:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Touch and go for me -- depends on when I return to the States from Frankfurt.

Colin Meeder (Mert), Monday, 30 June 2003 15:49 (twenty-two years ago)

F-You! U R ALL GAY!

Chris V. (Chris V), Monday, 30 June 2003 15:55 (twenty-two years ago)

F-You! U R ALL GAY!

You didn't get a room, did you?

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Monday, 30 June 2003 16:22 (twenty-two years ago)

I just changed my hotel reservation to the Pioneer from the Habitat -- if you call now you might be able to get the room I gave up!

j.lu (j.lu), Monday, 30 June 2003 16:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Also:

NA. (Nick A.), Monday, 30 June 2003 16:51 (twenty-two years ago)

check one two

Millar (Millar), Monday, 30 June 2003 20:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Nope, no room for the V-man. I'll catch you all some other time.

Chris V. (Chris V), Monday, 30 June 2003 20:30 (twenty-two years ago)

So I'm basically being totally flexible w.r.t what's going on this weekend. Basically I hit town Thursday night at 7pm, I'm going to dump my crap off at the hotel and then I'm going to start calling folks. At the very least, I suspect that Millar and I are going to drink ourselves into a coma.

People with cell phones: email your numbers to me.

Chris Barrus (Chris Barrus), Tuesday, 1 July 2003 00:57 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm still going. But first no luna and now no teeny? That's a shame.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 1 July 2003 13:21 (twenty-two years ago)

ok, so what's the deal with this? i'll be there, but can someone summarize the details on where and when everything is going down?! all the info above is conflicting!

geeta (geeta), Tuesday, 1 July 2003 13:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Geeta -
I believe it's Siberia at 6pm on the 4th. :-)

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 1 July 2003 13:44 (twenty-two years ago)

but can someone summarize the details on where and when everything is going down?!

Well, they could do that, but 20 posts down it'll be out-of-date. At the moment it seems to have swung back to what's nearly the original plan (!): Siberia on the 4th, 6pm+

My big plan is to get my number to chris & millar, then find out what the haps are when I get in (or get in - dump stuff - get cleaned up - get key). Then at the FAP bend people to my will and hammer out a consensus on what we're gonna eat and when for the next six days. Or at least the next day.

Then sit back and watch people get drunk.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 1 July 2003 13:50 (twenty-two years ago)

I just want to butt in and say that I am dreadfully envious of all you New Yorkers. My long holiday weekend will be spent with my girlfriend's sister and her chuckle-head husband. They're sandal-wearin', no-meat-eatin', Mother-Jones-readin', third-rate-folk-music-listenin' fruitcakes with a lot of education but no tastes and no clue how to have fun. We will play cards all weekend, same as ever. I will try not to drink too much in front of them. It will suck suck suck.

I'd like to think a Chicago FAP could be as fun as you guys' FAP, but I'm afraid we'll have trouble finding girls.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Tuesday, 1 July 2003 14:06 (twenty-two years ago)

hmmmm...

teeny (teeny), Tuesday, 1 July 2003 14:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Defiant Chicago July 4 FAP?

teeny (teeny), Tuesday, 1 July 2003 14:13 (twenty-two years ago)

I believe it's Siberia at 6pm on the 4th.

Ok, but when are we going to see the fireworks? And where?

rosemary (rosemary), Tuesday, 1 July 2003 15:10 (twenty-two years ago)

At about 6:01 when they tell us the cover charge ha I kill me.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 1 July 2003 15:19 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm not sure I can make it on July 4 but I would love to get together on July 3. Shall we say Lower East sideish? Or would you guys prefer drinking in a outdoor bar in Brooklyn?

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 1 July 2003 15:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Hmm...well, Carey and Aaron's spot is in Brooklyn, I gather, so that's a possibility.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 1 July 2003 15:46 (twenty-two years ago)

If I go out Thursday night and don't sleep at all while traveling I will have been up for about 36-38 hours by the time we would go out. I'm in!

Bryan (Bryan), Tuesday, 1 July 2003 15:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Sarah and I will be in Brooklyn too (Prospect Park area).

NA. (Nick A.), Tuesday, 1 July 2003 15:55 (twenty-two years ago)

The problem with Siberia on the 4th @ 6pm is that it makes it rather difficult to see the fireworks shows. I like Rosemary's idea to go watch the fireworks from Liberty State Park, which has a good view of everything. Watch fireworks and then drink?

Also, everyone email me your phone numbers...

Chris Barrus (Chris Barrus), Tuesday, 1 July 2003 16:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Fireworks don't start until 9-ish. Can we not drink a bit before, head down to watch, then go drink more after? NOT ENOUGH CANADIANS GOING TO THIS BITCH!

Bryan (Bryan), Tuesday, 1 July 2003 16:19 (twenty-two years ago)

If we do drink before fireworks, shouldn't we drink somewhere close to where we're going to watch? I think Siberia might be out of the way for that.

rosemary@library, Tuesday, 1 July 2003 17:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Uh, yeah, like way the hell out of the way! You could always go to a place that has drinking + view of fireworks like the Seaport but it is so lame. ALTHOUGH I JUST THOUGHT OF THIS THE SEAPORT IS WHERE THE BEAST IS AND IT IS KEY WE RIDE THE BEAST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OH MY GOD WHO IS IN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I probably won't be able to come til quite late on July 4th if at all due to plans but there's a good chance I'll bag out those plans anyway at the last minute but email me phone #s and I'll coordinate something to meet up with some people small time.

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 1 July 2003 17:31 (twenty-two years ago)

(we don't have to ride The Beast on the 4th, we could go on a less crowded day but I definitely want someone to come ride The Beast with me)

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 1 July 2003 17:32 (twenty-two years ago)

This is a rollercoaster or something, right? Otherwise this FAP sounds even seamier than I imagined.

Nicole (Nicole), Tuesday, 1 July 2003 17:36 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm still going. But first no luna and now no teeny? That's a shame.

It is, too - but y'all will have to drink for us on our birthday and then I still expect phone calls. If you don't have my cell #, email me for it (or I know that Chris and Millar both have it, too). Make this happen.

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 1 July 2003 17:50 (twenty-two years ago)

It is NOT a rollercoaster! WHO IS IN!!

(alas I cannot find a picture of The Beast: it is a speedboat that tours around NY that is painted like a lizard/shark thing and it is the CHEESIEST THING EVER!!!! PLEASE COME WITH ME SOMEONE!!!)

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 1 July 2003 17:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Ooh I want to ride it.

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 1 July 2003 18:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Ok! Now I am stoked. We should do this...I dunno, I am off work Thurs so assuming I don't keep hella late hours Weds??? Or maybe we should just go on Saturday but I am scared it'll be quite crowded.

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 1 July 2003 18:08 (twenty-two years ago)

okay tentatively for thurs....i agree sat. is too crowded.....

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 1 July 2003 18:17 (twenty-two years ago)

What time does everyone get in? I know Andrew, Millar and Chris will all be in on the 3rd, Bryan too I think...? But time is of essence here.

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 1 July 2003 18:18 (twenty-two years ago)

I WILL RIDE THE BEAST. I WILL WEAR FUR AND LEATHER WHEN I RIDE THE BEAST!!!

Bryan (Bryan), Tuesday, 1 July 2003 18:19 (twenty-two years ago)

FUCK YEAH!!!!!!!! That's the spirit I am talking about!

Then we will go for girly drinks like daiquiris.

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 1 July 2003 18:20 (twenty-two years ago)

If I can drink them from a stone cup! Tell me the times we can ride the beast and I will shoot for being there on time (probably won't get there until after 5 on Thursday).

Bryan (Bryan), Tuesday, 1 July 2003 18:23 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm in at around 5 pm Thursday at JFK, and from there head over to Carey's place.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 1 July 2003 18:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Though I'm not a fan, some of you may be interested in Richie Hawtin at PS1 warmup on Sat. It's a really cool outdoor venue anyway.

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 1 July 2003 18:27 (twenty-two years ago)

I think that is too late to ride the Beast but we can try....

Otherwise we can shoot for another day?

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 1 July 2003 18:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, what's dusk there? 8 pm? 9 pm? WE WILL RIDE THE FUCKING BEAST.

Bryan (Bryan), Tuesday, 1 July 2003 18:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Damn Canadians are savage!!

Yeah, dusk is like late, like 8 or so. I'm just worried they'll give up a bit early being it's a Thursday though maybe since no one has work the next day they'll keep it going!

Hehe I like how they advertise it as a "heart-pounding 45 mph". It's really not that fast at all! Do you reckon we will get wet?

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 1 July 2003 18:39 (twenty-two years ago)

You'd better be wet if you're gonna RIDE THE BEAST!!! (did I just say that?)

Bryan (Bryan), Tuesday, 1 July 2003 18:54 (twenty-two years ago)

So where is good to drink that is close to the fireworks?

NA. (Nick A.), Tuesday, 1 July 2003 19:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Obviously Bryan is showing off his Canadian heritage here, that really primal Wolverine style thing (Northern Alberta, Southern Saskatchewan, who cares really). If you want to keep him in line I'd suggest keeping a bunch of raw meat around. Maybe you can skim some from Millar's stash.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Tuesday, 1 July 2003 19:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah. I'm rough and tough.
NA.: I vote for carrying around 40s in paper bags all day myself.

Bryan (Bryan), Tuesday, 1 July 2003 19:15 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm in, seeing as how Bryan's giving me my ride to NY.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Tuesday, 1 July 2003 19:18 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd willingly jump the Beast, but I'm not sure how rested I'll feel, after trekking into DUMBO from LaG the night before.

However, I've already signed my name in blood, so there are 7 others who'll have to put up with me!

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Tuesday, 1 July 2003 19:23 (twenty-two years ago)

40s in paper bags is doable, I walked all over Astoria doing that many times now. HOWEVER I will point out that the Seaport is where I've gotten drunkest on 4th of July. HOWEVER IT IS HELLA CROWDED.

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 1 July 2003 19:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, that'll make picking pockets easier!

Bryan (Bryan), Tuesday, 1 July 2003 19:27 (twenty-two years ago)

So where are the fireworks?

NA. (Nick A.), Tuesday, 1 July 2003 19:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Kind of over the water. You can see them from a couple spots. There are basically different fireworks shows for all three waterways. The one I'm talking about is visible from pretty much the whole west side and also Jersey (so-called best places in Manhattan are around 34th-42nd Street and the West Side Highway, and the South Street Seaport).

Bryan, don't do anything to my pockets or I'm gonna break out some kung fu action on you. CAN YOU HANDLE THAT?

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 1 July 2003 19:39 (twenty-two years ago)

ALSO I OWN MAD LIBS SO IF EVERYONE ANNOYS ME I'LL FORCE YOU TO PLAY.

Who has a car and wants to drive me to the beach? Did I hear "Bryan and Anthony"?

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 1 July 2003 19:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Bryan, don't do anything to my pockets or I'm gonna break out some kung fu action on you. CAN YOU HANDLE THAT?

That's prolly him, preparing his own flying kick....

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Tuesday, 1 July 2003 19:45 (twenty-two years ago)

I can hold 5 people in my car (including myself, of course). Ally: 1. WE WOULD BE PICKING THE POCKETS OF WITLESS TOURISTS. 2. I'll play motherfuckin' Mad Libs! 3. I CAN HANDLE ALL THE PHYSICAL VIOLENCE YOU WANT TO UNLEASH ON ME. The first rule of Fight Club is...

Bryan (Bryan), Tuesday, 1 July 2003 19:51 (twenty-two years ago)

It's Bryan's car, I just sit in it (and wonder how the hell he'll be sane after 30+ hours of driving).

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Tuesday, 1 July 2003 19:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Who is up for MAD LIBS and PIZZA PARTY! DO YOU LIKE PARTIES! *cue Beastie Boys trashing place*

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 1 July 2003 19:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Haha Ant assumes Bryan is sane to begin with.

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 1 July 2003 19:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Hang on, wait, Miccio, you are coming? Weird! Now Alex in NYC MUST COME.

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 1 July 2003 19:55 (twenty-two years ago)

you didn't know? Yeah, I'm staying at Carey's. Bryan's driving me there and Franz is driving me back.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Tuesday, 1 July 2003 19:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Man now I'm really confused. I can confirm however that I am perfectly willing to

1. ride beasts
2. drink 40s in paper bags all day
3. go to seaport
4. see fireworks
5. see richie hawtin
6. drink both before and after fireworks
7. have girly cocktails

However I refuse to pick pockets or have my pockets picked.

Millar (Millar), Tuesday, 1 July 2003 20:01 (twenty-two years ago)

actually 40s in paper bags all day in 90 degree weather is a shitty idea, scratch that

Millar (Millar), Tuesday, 1 July 2003 20:03 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm down with 1-4 and 6 (7 only after 2).

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Tuesday, 1 July 2003 20:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Millar, you got my phone #?

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 1 July 2003 20:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Ok, so maybe the pick pocketing idea was rub. Drinking 40s in the heat though...CLASSIC.

Bryan (Bryan), Tuesday, 1 July 2003 20:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Ok, so maybe the pick pocketing idea was rub. Drinking 40s in the heat though...CLASSIC.

Only til you pass out; I can't carry you, so you might end up with marks of the gutter grille on your face.

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Tuesday, 1 July 2003 20:29 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll consider the visit a disaster otherwise.

Bryan (Bryan), Tuesday, 1 July 2003 20:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Rosemary, please explain the JC fireworks perch before this thread goes to the dogs. It is majorly crowded?

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 1 July 2003 20:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Ally: Y

Millar (Millar), Tuesday, 1 July 2003 20:41 (twenty-two years ago)

this sounds like the worst weekend ever

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Tuesday, 1 July 2003 20:47 (twenty-two years ago)

and we're just in the planning stages!

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 1 July 2003 20:49 (twenty-two years ago)

I am going to research the Jersey fireworks situation. I wonder if you can take the ferry there (ooo boat ride). I know you'll need chairs or blankets though.

More later.

rosemary (rosemary), Tuesday, 1 July 2003 21:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Ok so, Liberty State Park has music festival starting at 5, fireworks at 9.30. Free shuttle from The Light rail satation to the festival area. Bring yr own chairs as there i slimited seating.

rosemary (rosemary), Tuesday, 1 July 2003 21:08 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm gonna go ahead and ixnay that

Millar (Millar), Tuesday, 1 July 2003 21:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Dude, me, you and Bryan are gonna be lying drunk in gutters by 5pm, wtf?

How does going to Jersey relate to going to Siberia later? I might have a date, and when the LAers call the LA people on their cell phones I'm going to steal the phones and make phone sex comments to all the LA people and then see if I get smacked in the head for it by the little man.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 01:31 (twenty-two years ago)

i love how this thread makes me more confused. i think every single ilxor in town should go to Carmines and stuff ourselves after fireworks which we can watch somehwere west of carmines. after carmines those of us who want to drink more can discuss that :-)

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 02:15 (twenty-two years ago)

also Hawtin sounds tempting!

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 02:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Aaron send me or Chris your phone number immediately you boojie ass pustule

Millar (Millar), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 02:19 (twenty-two years ago)

millar i dont have a cell and wont have a landline so i will need to call you! i am up for synth-watching!

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 02:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Dude it's cool Millar, Bryan is staying with them and I've got Bryan's # and you've got mine so we'll get this party started.

I think Aaron's idea is good the only problem is that Carmine's gets mad busy so everyone would have to say if they are in or not NOW and make a reservation. I MIGHT be able to finagle a hook up for you guys but I'm not 100% sure. EVERYONE DISCUSS AND COME TO CONSENSUS BY TOMORROW OTHERWISE WE'RE ALL FUCKED.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 02:25 (twenty-two years ago)

I can't do the real internet from work, or even use the real phone system. I vote we stick to the original plan to meet at Siberia at 6pm and then figure out something brilliant

Millar (Millar), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 02:27 (twenty-two years ago)

carmine's on 4th of july = hellish beyond measure focus people focus

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 02:29 (twenty-two years ago)

SIBERIA AT 6PM IS TOO EARLY PEOPLE. Seriously.

Millar, you can't do AIM right now?

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 02:34 (twenty-two years ago)

OK seriously, everyone, Siberia is totally out of the way for fireworks--I suggested it under the idea that you all would go there late, not early.

I actually know a bar that would have a fantabulous view if you all want to go that early for the drinkin' at the bar part of the evening. However no one will be able to drink much there because it is, how you say, expensive.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 02:38 (twenty-two years ago)

What is this place, and what is the likelihood that it will be packed with other frieworks-watchers?

j.lu (j.lu), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 02:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Also:

Macy's Fireworks Spectacular
July 4th, 9PM

Manhattan:   Southbound lanes of the FDR drive from 14th to 42nd Street will be open for the public from 7:30pm to 10:00pm. On-ramp entrances for pedestrians (including the disabled) are located at 23rd, 38th, and 42nd streets. The FDR Drive will be closed to vehicular traffic between Houston St. and 63rd St. from 7:00pm until 1:00am.

Brooklyn/Queens:   Great views from Hunter's Point, Queens, Greenpoint, Brooklyn, and anywhere with an unobstructed view of the East River between 23rd & 42nd Sts.

but: WARNING: If you plan to view the show from the East River, consider it an all-day event and stake your claim early. Do not even think about showing up close to the 7:30 pm closing of FDR Drive. Lines form early in the afternoon, so plan ahead. For more information, call the Fireworks Hotline: (212) 494-4495.

rosemary (rosemary), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 02:45 (twenty-two years ago)

haha, anyone have a rooftop we can watch this from??

rosemary (rosemary), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 02:47 (twenty-two years ago)

It's called Rise. It's absolutely stunning and has some of the best girly drinks I've ever had, but they aren't cheap. Pitchers of mojitos or margaritas are relatively sane priced though, enough to have like 5 drinks for about $23?

PS Tracer Hand's apt would've come in real handy for this, he has a rooftop, too bad no one took him up on the sublet!

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 02:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Please tell me we can go to the Gowanus Yacht Club in Carroll Gardens on July 3.

http://www.newyorkmetro.com/content/02/wk23/openings.htm

Or there's always the Abbey in Williamsburg.

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 03:09 (twenty-two years ago)

ok so:

people who want to see fireworks can meet at one time and place
people who don't want to see fireworks can meet at another time and place

and then we can all meet up together later.

places and times TBA

rosemary (rosemary), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 03:19 (twenty-two years ago)

i think i will just get a life preserver and a floating cooler stocked with ice cream and beer and watch from the middle of the river.

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 03:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Ok I am going to go all bossy boots and be in charge of the fireworks meeting place and time. Even if it is just three of us!

rosemary (rosemary), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 03:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Non-fireworks people are still meeting at Siberia, though not necessarily as early as 6PM.

I suggest that the nonFW ppl find somewhere else before 10:30pm or simply use the telephone to confer and agree on a place for the formation of FAPTRON.

Chris has my # and I have his so it shouldn't be too much trouble, actually.

Millar (Millar), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 03:31 (twenty-two years ago)

a simple proposal for the 4th. it revolves around lower manhattan (how conveeenient for me, though i dunno yet if/when i will attend)

lunch - downtown Les Halles (though this is a bit expensive. not super-expensive, but a bit)

post-lunch - walk five blocks to the Seaport to stake out firework space (and you won't just be sitting there, cuz there's Seaport stuff around you - spaces can be saved while people take turns exploring). or, if it's not too crowded yet, take advantage of nearby stuff - Brooklyn Bridge, Staten Island ferry, Rise, etc.

fireworks - at the seaport.

post-fireworks - take the nearby 2/3 to Siberia

gabbneb (gabbneb), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 03:33 (twenty-two years ago)

simple proposals are not allowed

Millar (Millar), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 03:40 (twenty-two years ago)

How about indecent ones? I have some cash...

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 03:55 (twenty-two years ago)

yacht club is always hella-packed mary, but you and i should go there sometime. it's fun!

my roof has a perfect view of the fireworks but it'll be packed & i don't trust u folx.

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 03:58 (twenty-two years ago)

that's ok, we don't like you either, emo boy

rosemary (rosemary), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 04:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Actually a little bird just told me that it's the Yaabey in BK that has the outdoor garden. Carry on.

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 04:36 (twenty-two years ago)

(Yanc3y's just threatened by all the new-testosterone coming to town.)

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 04:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Yanc3y, I thought similar things but you dont' see me announcing them, you fuckwad. Also I'm not allowed on my roof anymore, I've been banned.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 04:50 (twenty-two years ago)

so if it was just all girls, we could hang out on his roof?

rosemary (rosemary), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 04:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, except me, I'm never allowed over his place :(

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 04:52 (twenty-two years ago)

6 seems kinda early for siberia, ok, so im not even going to be in nyc on this day, but still, you know...

mary in not richie hawtin fan shockah!

gareth (gareth), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 07:23 (twenty-two years ago)

have fun. :( I'm stuck alone in Worcester.

Chris V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 07:29 (twenty-two years ago)

So if I do show up unannounced am I to be forced onto the streets of NYC with a sleeping bag, a tin cup and a bottle of Boones Farm? The Red Sox are playing the Yankees this weekend, it could be double fun for me.

Chris V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 07:36 (twenty-two years ago)

What time does everyone get in? I know Andrew, Millar and Chris will all be in on the 3rd

Nope, half seven on the 4th.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 08:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Biggest cat herding operation ever.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 08:32 (twenty-two years ago)

There are all these mini-FAP plans, but don't we all want to meet each other? huh huh huh? So we should all agree on one place and time that we definitely will all meet up and then other people can plan other stuff outside of that one meet up if they so choose.

I would love to see fireworks with everyone, but we would need to agree on a time/place to meet since it will be crowded and confusing and what-not. So, maybe we need:
* one time/place for fireworks meetup and
* one time/place for drinking afterwards?

I really want to meet as many of you as possible.

Ok, discuss.

Sarah McLUsky (coco), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 12:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Fuck. Fuck.
I'd really like to have some semblence of a plan BEFORE the 4th (ie, sometime today), because we probably won't have a cell phone up there, unless Sarah pays to have her cell phone plan changed today to work out of state. Gabbnebb's plan sounds reasonable and fantastic. That's the one I vote for.

NA. (Nick A.), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 12:14 (twenty-two years ago)

I like gabbneb's plan too. What time at Les Halles? Do we need reservations there?

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 12:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Ha. I sound like such an asshole in my post.

NA. (Nick A.), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 12:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Me too.

Sarah McLUsky (coco), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 12:24 (twenty-two years ago)

gabbneb's plan assumes that most people want at least the opportunity to meet up with most other people for a substantial portion of the day. this may not be true.

les halles will surely require reservations, and may be quite busy (it is a weekday).

gabbneb (gabbneb), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 12:26 (twenty-two years ago)

We HAVE a plan. Some of us want to see fireworks. Others of us cannot be within ten miles of fireworks unless you would like to see us go bitchcakes panic attack. Ergo, we have two meet ups and then a "full" meet up AFTERWARDS. Rosemary, being the most hellbent on fireworks last night, is going to head up the fireworks group and will get back to everyone this afternoon. The non-fireworks group is going to Siberia, say, 8--Andrew since you are getting in on the 4th, I recommend you skip fireworks cos it just won't work trying to find anyone that late. Fireworks group obviously has to meet up MUCH EARLIER than nonfireworks group because you will never get a viable viewing spot otherwise.

There are people with cell phones in both the fireworks and nonfireworks groups as of last night (IIRC me and Millar were the most anti-fireworks, and Bryan and Chris were interested in fireworks, and all four of us are having the cell phones) so I don't see what the big drama here is now. If we need to have a definite place for post fireworks, since Rosemary does NOT want to go to Siberia, I suggest we say around 11 or 12 at Magician, which is across the street from Welcome to the Johnsons and rarely hella crowded. But really if you all can convince Rosemary to come to Siberia I see nothing wrong with staying there...

FOCUS PEOPLE WE HAVE A PLAN! Keep in mind that some of us might have OTHER PLANS too that don't revolve around spending the entire weekend doing this! This is easy this is simple Millar is a military man, he will save us all.

I'll be there if/when I can--Millar, you are my contact, comrade, so keep your bloody phone this time and don't leave it in a cab.

And I'd really assume you need reservations at Les Halles.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 12:28 (twenty-two years ago)

can't millar get some AWACS over NYC to coordinate this thing?

That Rise place looks good. A pitcher of mojitos for 23 bucks ain't a bad price.*

*btw I'm not attending

lawrence kansas (lawrence kansas), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 12:34 (twenty-two years ago)

I think Rise looks good too and I think at some point some people should go with me.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 12:37 (twenty-two years ago)

B-but my middle name is MELODRAMA!

Sorry, I know I was freaking out, but I was just thinking it would be totally dissapointing if I got to New York and didn't end up meeting any ILXors after all, or only met of couple when there are bajillions of them scampering around the city.

Sarah McLUsky (coco), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 12:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Andrew since you are getting in on the 4th, I recommend you skip fireworks cos it just won't work trying to find anyone that late.

I'm guessing that plane touchdown at 7.20 at JFK means it'll be 8.30 or near as dammit by the time I get to town. I could always watch them unsupervisedly.

since Rosemary does NOT want to go to Siberia

??? I don't see that in this thread. She seems quite happy above.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 12:41 (twenty-two years ago)

You guys keep freaking out this whole thread! It's quite unbecoming missy. Trust me, if you don't hear about any other meet up before you leave, I will personally be at Siberia sometime between 8 and 10, probably with a friend of mine, so if you hear nothing else go there! If anything changes I'll transport you both myself.

Oh, Andrew, re: Siberia, she said she hated it in chat last night which is why I suggested leaving Siberia at all but if she decides otherwise then we shall stay there. Re: Watching fireworks unsupervised I trust you to do so; however good luck finding a spot to do it that late, if you haven't already missed them (what time does the sun go down?). As I said to Sarah, you hear no other plans, go to Siberia and I'll find you all, like barhopping Mad Max.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 12:44 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm really looking forward to meeting you all!

Bryan (Bryan), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 12:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Colin, if you're reading this -- I'd like to know whether you indeed will be needing a room this time out. I'd need some advance notice because the apartment will need to be hosed down.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 12:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah I'm looking forward to meeting you all too! In another life.

Chris V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 13:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Dude, I'd *gladly* offer you a place to crash except that 1) I was assuming Colin would probably need to stay over and a 2) I'm not sure how you'd would feel about sharing a room with a gay guy who's been all k-ROWR over you on ILx.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 13:27 (twenty-two years ago)

I mean, hell, even *you* don't have a problem with that, I might.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 13:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Thanks, Ally. I've had some water now and breathing deeply.

Looks like Nick and I will be in the rosemary fireworks brigade.

Chris V., I'll see you in my dreams! ;-)

Sarah MCLUsky (coco), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 13:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Turn down the bitter, chris, if I can do it you can too. ;)

teeny (teeny), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 13:32 (twenty-two years ago)

At this rate half of us will end up on Staten Island going, "The hell?" ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 13:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Im just joking Teeny about all my RAGE! Im not bitter, Im just disappointed, I wanted to meet everyone. Thats ok, you all will get a giant group photoshop of yourselves in front of the Mt. Garethmore soon.

Chris V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 13:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Mike, it wouldn't bother me one bit. But I have got new plans now, so I'm not coming anyway.

Chris V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 13:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey, ChrisV - there's room for you on top of me! ha ha

Just Kidding (coco), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 13:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Get out the hose, Mr. Daddino, but only for your own self worth -- I won't know if I can make it until the Fourth, and I'll be travelling most of that day.

Colin Meeder (Mert), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 13:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Get out the hose, Mr. Daddino, but only for your own self worth...

But do you know if your brother can accomodate you, or...?

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 13:46 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't know if he can and think he can't, but I'd feel bad asking you to prepare a room when I STILL don't know if I can make it.

Colin Meeder (Mert), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 13:59 (twenty-two years ago)

From the South Street Seaport: This year's show will include two barges stationed between Brooklyn and Manhattan. Best viewing spots: In Brooklyn, the Brooklyn Heights Promenade, Empire Fulton Ferry State Park, and Furman Street from Atlantic Avenue to Cadman Plaza West. Points between Joralemon and Cranberry Streets with a clear view of the sky above the East River, and south of the Brooklyn Bridge are also recommended. In Manhattan, the lower F.D.R. Drive will be closed from Broad Street to the Brooklyn Bridge. The F.D.R. Drive will be accessible to pedestrians at the Manhattan Civic Center (Brooklyn Bridge/Pearl Street exit ramp). The show starts at 7:15 p.m., and the fireworks go off at 9:45 p.m.

rosemary (rosemary), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 14:13 (twenty-two years ago)

South Street Seaport is nice, one year I went there with my crazy cokewhore friend and her stupid ass thug boyfriend and my ex-fiance who wore a SUIT, wtf? Anyway we all went there and it was awesome but the weird thing was, the stupid ass thug boyfriend gets up at one point to go to the bathroom (the toilets are all inside the shopping center). He comes back in an entirely new outfit. Shoes, pants, shirt, visor, sunglasses, backpack. He threw out his old clothes and came back like that! I was like, that's odd. Then I went and bought new clothes cos it was too hot for the clothes I was wearing, and ended up downing like 20 daiquiris and getting piss ass drunk. We left before the fireworks and stood on my roof in the pouring rain screaming at cars.

So I propose we do all that!!!!

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 15:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Except we should work in riding the Beast. If you guys go to the Seaport I might meet you midday to ride the Beast.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 15:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Ally, he obviously murdered someone.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 15:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, I thought of that but I didn't want to say anything.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 15:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Say, what's everybody doing on the 5th? or do we need a new thread for that?

Paul Eater (eater), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 16:05 (twenty-two years ago)

At 12 everyone yell east, maybe I'll hear you.

Chris V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 16:08 (twenty-two years ago)

On the 5th, Chris and I are taking up JBR's offer for a food tour of good places to eat, something in which Mr. Barrus and I have an extreme and dedicated interest. What this will apparently translate into is a series of peregrinations throughout Manhattan and elsewhere consuming and drinking. We find this more than satisfactory.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 16:28 (twenty-two years ago)

At some point I will make the necessary tour of St. Marks and varius other great places to shop for bizarre/imported/fancy music and movies. If somebody could suggest some high points to visit with excellent used selections I would be VERY VERY interested. All I know is St. Marks and the Times Square Virgin.

Millar (Millar), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 16:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Um, I think the 5th should get its own thread.

Ok so: Fireworks! Should we meet at SSS at 5? And then meet the drinkers at 11? I will decide a more specific location later.

rosemary (rosemary), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 17:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Millar, I'll shop with you if I'm not in Astoria.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 17:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Rosemary
Me and Sarah are down for whatever you decide.

NA. (Nick A.), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 18:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Millar, you must go to Book Off for used Japanese CDs: 14 E 41st St. near the NY Library. If you like, let's go together. There's a good Japanese cafe nearby too. You should also maybe visit Kinokuniya (Rock Plaza) or Asahiya (near Grand Central) for expensive imports. If you don't mind your J-cds come via Taiwan, east 32nd st. Koreatown is your strip. Other Music may have some remnants of its former glory.

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 18:05 (twenty-two years ago)

This just in. Very busy and overworked fellow Ilxer Paul K. (he of infinite kindness) is co-hosting this annual party which he has for friends and family that sounds like a lot of fun. In light of the FAP and visitors he is extending the invite to anyone from Ilx. That means you!

Location:Ê Prospect Park
When:Ê Friday, July 4, 3:00pm

4th of July Badminton & Picnic Extravaganza! Meet in the Long Meadow near the 3rd Street Entrance of Prospect Park (same spot as last year, look for badminton net.

Guests should provide picnic blankets and other preferred snacks and/or beverages.

In case of rain (it is the weekend afterall), we'll probably head to the Zombie Hut in Carroll Gardens for an afternoon of tropical drinking.

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 18:38 (twenty-two years ago)

OOH OOH KINOKUNIYA sweat sweat

Millar (Millar), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 18:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Can't go out there due to other non-ILX visitors I don't think...

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 18:42 (twenty-two years ago)

er?

Millar (Millar), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 18:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Reply to Mary, not you...I can definitely go shopping for Japan imports and would definitely, definitely be in for it.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 18:45 (twenty-two years ago)

I was replying to you in response to Mary - I just don't grasp all these weird NYC interrelationships with other people (but I understand, I think (sort of))

Millar (Millar), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 18:46 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm sure *if* Ally wanted to come it would be fine, but I think she has other Rockaway plans in mind.

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 18:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Prospect Park would be fantastic for the Richmond Krew (ie, me and Sarah), because that's the area where we're staying, but we'll go wherever everyone else goes.

NA. (Nick A.), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 18:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Interrelationships???! The plans aren't in Rockaway but rather with people coming into the city or possibly Bronx--I could see? OTOH we've changed plans so much that I don't know if this is a good idea at all.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 18:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Im just phearing the aftermath of this MEGAFAP.
All the injokes and rumours I'll be out of the loop on.
Oh well, The Nils are in town at least.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 19:00 (twenty-two years ago)

You're more up on some of the rumors than I am, Noodles...

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 19:02 (twenty-two years ago)

In light of the FAP and visitors he is extending the invite to anyone from Ilx. That means you!

Now see, in my experience when someone brings up stuff like this 48 hours beforehand, they mean "I'm skipping out to something else I want to do, and want to make it seem like an opportunity (for awkwardness)". Can you confirm that I'm wrong here, Mary?

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 19:15 (twenty-two years ago)

This thread just gets better and better!

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 19:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Nevermind, South Street Seaport sounds more fun. I want to drink margaritas and pass out. Within the first 20 minutes.

NA. (Nick A.), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 19:27 (twenty-two years ago)

This is going to be the biggest clusterfuck in all of ILX history.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 19:29 (twenty-two years ago)

SSS does seem like a plan if we can actually pull it off and ride The BEAST or whatever. Timing is of the essence I gather.

Millar (Millar), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 19:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Ilx should hold a communication skills convention at the Javits Center.

Paul K. is the nicest person I've ever talked to for half an hour.

gabbneb (gabbneb), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 19:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Dude, Millar, riding the Beast is my ONLY GODDAMNED GOAL IN LIFE RIGHT NOW, that will be pulled off.

Paul K is a really nice person, I agree.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 19:33 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm changing my first name to 'Dude'

Millar (Millar), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 19:35 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm changing my name to "Fuck you".

(MARY DO YOU SEE? BE AGGRESSIVE NOT PASSIVE!)

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 19:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Attn Tom: I'm totally up for a CD shopping spree, although I'm not able to tell you much more than go to St. Mark's Place and explore the six-block radius.

JBR: The July 5 gastrotour sounds like fun. Is the e-mail address you give here valid? I want to send you my cell phone number.

j.lu (j.lu), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 20:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Millar, are you here on Sun.? Wong Kar Wai's Ashes of Time is playing at Lincoln Center.

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 20:58 (twenty-two years ago)

That is also conveniently very close to my house. I know a good place for drinks not too far from there.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 21:04 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm so there

Millar (Millar), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 21:06 (twenty-two years ago)

has to be after shopping, though

Millar (Millar), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 21:07 (twenty-two years ago)

4:15 and 8:15 pm...

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 21:19 (twenty-two years ago)

mwhahahahh, millar the cat herder.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 21:19 (twenty-two years ago)

What are you implying about Mary and I there, Ed?

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 21:20 (twenty-two years ago)

think about the proiceess of herding cats and the ILX masssssivvvvee.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 21:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Think about the implications of using the word "cat herder" directly after a post where a boy is making plans with gurls!!

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 21:30 (twenty-two years ago)

I am sweet and innocent and had my t-shirt insulted by someone mistaking me for an art director this evening.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 21:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Did it say "Art Director" on it?

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 21:36 (twenty-two years ago)

It says 'Use Helvetica' on it.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 21:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Using Helvetica is pretty effective in herding people, I dunno about cats

Millar (Millar), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 21:43 (twenty-two years ago)

See: airports and rail stations of the world

Millar (Millar), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 21:44 (twenty-two years ago)

I was insulted by a man in a patrick mcgoohan prisoner style jacket with a swastica on the lapel

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 21:45 (twenty-two years ago)

*blinks* I've heards of art Nazis before, but...

j.lu (j.lu), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 21:48 (twenty-two years ago)

I think airports should employ Comic Sans more often.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 21:57 (twenty-two years ago)

no no no Gadget!!!

Millar (Millar), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 22:05 (twenty-two years ago)

london peeps want nuff photos from this right royal shindig

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 22:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Naked ones, right?

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 22:20 (twenty-two years ago)

On it.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 22:33 (twenty-two years ago)

keep in mind that I still have several visible wounds from last weekend

Millar (Millar), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 23:10 (twenty-two years ago)

It'll be just like a Ballard novel then, excellent.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 23:14 (twenty-two years ago)

I just spent the last two-and-a-half hours cleaning my front window, Colin. You better appreciate this! (Guilt, guilt, needle, needle.)

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 23:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Do you remember that skit from SNL in the 80s, Calvin Klein "Compulsion"?

Ally (mlescaut), Thursday, 3 July 2003 00:22 (twenty-two years ago)

"a little vinegar would get that right out..."

"LIAR!"

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Thursday, 3 July 2003 00:24 (twenty-two years ago)

This is my official Last Post Before FAP. See you in NYC (unless yer Bryan, in which case I'll see you in my driveway).

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Thursday, 3 July 2003 00:48 (twenty-two years ago)

What happened to Rosemary? I thought she was going to come up with a definite location at the SSS.

NA. (Nick A.), Thursday, 3 July 2003 01:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Based on carefully studying this map, Sarah and I have decided we should meet at the corner of Beekman and Front Streets at the southwest corner of the Fulton Market Building. I have no reason to believe that this is a good place to meet, but at least it's something definite. We can meet at 5:00. But if anyone else has a better idea, go ahead and suggest it.
I'll check here again before we leave tomorrow, which will be about 6:30/7 AM. I don't know if I'll be able to check again once we're in NYC, so if plans change, please call us on Sarah's celly. Bye! Hope we find you guys and don't end up walking down a dark alley and getting killed!

NA. (Nick A.), Thursday, 3 July 2003 01:31 (twenty-two years ago)

finally had a moment to read this -

about the afternoon lounging in Prospect Park - it's my wife's party so I wasn't even considering other daytime activities (though most of them sound great - Coney Island, Southstreet Seaport, JBR's food tour, shopping for Japanese CDs - I mean GREAT!!!). but since we sent invites to some ILx'r friends too, I wanted to extend the invite further ...but NOT siphon people away from the other events, got me?

it will be very casual laidback laying out under shade in the hot but pretty park. there will be badminton going on (laff all ya like, it's hip enuff for The Devil), plus other ball games (hell, the long meadow will likely be crowded) and West Indians flying kites.

I hope to make it to Siberia later - Ally's right, 6pm is way too early* : it's Friday night! also hope to finally meet the MAN LIKE NED...

(* and complicated cos of the fireworks. those who get there early will probably be ready for another bar by the time others make it to Siberia. and Siberia will be best on the late side.)

Paul (scifisoul), Thursday, 3 July 2003 01:32 (twenty-two years ago)

hey! NA, I was out of the house. Plus, I wanted to ask around where's a good place to meet people as I haven't been to SSS in seven years. Your suggestion is as good as any so let's do that.

I'm going to wear a white tank top that has stars and stripes on it, and jeans, so look for a girl wearing that.

rosemary (rosemary), Thursday, 3 July 2003 02:46 (twenty-two years ago)

also hope to finally meet the MAN LIKE NED...

Manlike, but more accurately made of suet. ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 3 July 2003 03:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Do you remember that skit from SNL in the 80s, Calvin Klein "Compulsion"?

OK, here's the situation. I'm on the first level of my building, and my floor is maybe five feet above the sidewalk level. So I need a ladder to clean it. Only I don't have a ladder that allows me to reach the entire height of the window. And the ladder I had was this shaky metal nightmare that couldn't stay in place. Plus I've got a big-ass A/C right at the bottom of the window, blocking the front. So I can't just put the ladder in front of the window -- I have to put it to either side. AND, since the A/C has been placed in the opening of vertically-sliding windows, and the A/C has been dismally-but-permanently bolted to the bottom of the bottom window, there's a whole sizable rectangle of window space I can't really clean, unless I unlatch the tops of either window, and even then, I can only barely clean the area in question without utterly destroying the window or having the A/C snap off. AND, I had to contend with a screen protecting the front of the window, and the weird jerry-built way the window was constructed and the A/C installed made me think I couldn't remove it. Eventually I could, but I once I did it was hard to put it back without falling off the damn ladder. And its' dirtiness isn't some small thing, either. I get a quite a bit of inky black soot, it's fucking gross.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Thursday, 3 July 2003 09:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Cool. We're leaving Richmond soon. See you guys there hopefully. Give us a call.

NA. (Nick A.), Thursday, 3 July 2003 09:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Everyone have fun! I'll be thinking of you all, when I'm dancing.

Chris V. (Chris V), Thursday, 3 July 2003 10:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Finished the last things to do in my apartment, about to sign off the computer and go catch the cab to the airport. See everyone soon!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 3 July 2003 11:47 (twenty-two years ago)

JLU WHERE ARE YOU

Millar (Millar), Thursday, 3 July 2003 12:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Good Lord, Michael. You're risking life and limb for my comfort. Very well -- if I can't make it to the FAP, I will definitely be by within a week to gave through your lovely windows.

Colin Meeder (Mert), Thursday, 3 July 2003 13:37 (twenty-two years ago)

SEE YA

Millar (Millar), Thursday, 3 July 2003 14:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Free wireless access in Long Beach Airport r0x0rs! Posting from there now. I get on the plane in 20 minutes.

Chris Barrus (Chris Barrus), Thursday, 3 July 2003 15:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Do you remember that skit from SNL in the 80s, Calvin Klein "Compulsion"?

"She was both innocent and... jejune."

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 3 July 2003 16:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh shit! There's a Siberia on 356 W 40th St and one on 250 W 50th St

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 3 July 2003 20:05 (twenty-two years ago)

The one at 250 W.50th is the old location. No longer there.

I shan't be at these festivities. Have fun, though!

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 3 July 2003 20:12 (twenty-two years ago)

i shan't partake either, unfortunately. as much as i'd like to meet ned, ally, jbr, et. al. i've apparently got to be in philly by saturday. but have fun y'all!

Tad (llamasfur), Thursday, 3 July 2003 21:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Bryan called me from Ohio this morning - had a tire blow out, and in running around trying to fix it, he said he probably won't get there until about 10 tonight, so he'll probably miss all tonight's festivities.

And now you know.

luna (luna.c), Thursday, 3 July 2003 21:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Colin, if you have to schedule something for next week, you can forget about seeing me Monday or Tuesday. The company is making a presentation to an ultra-mega-important client on Wednesday and I'll be dealing with that most of Monday and Tuesday night.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Thursday, 3 July 2003 23:39 (twenty-two years ago)

To those of you who quoted the Compulsion skit, I kiss you with tongues. Everyone else, Alex otm about the Siberia location, DON'T GET LOST. It is nearly the last door on that street (if not the last)--it's unmarked but you'll know it by the trail of smokers.

ally @ felicity's house (felicity), Thursday, 3 July 2003 23:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Also some of us are going to Rise bar tonite so those NYCers who can't make tomorrow FUCKING SHOW UP TONIGHT IN LIKE A HALF HOUR or something, it's on 2 West St in Battery Park.

ally @ felicity's again (felicity), Thursday, 3 July 2003 23:54 (twenty-two years ago)

-it's unmarked but you'll know it by the trail of smokers

I believe there's still a red light bulb above the door...or a neon sign of a stick figure swingin' a hammer.

Make sure no one messes with my now-ancient graffito!

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 4 July 2003 00:11 (twenty-two years ago)

It was lovely speaking with some of you tonight. Feel free to call again as the weekend progresses. I expect slurred rantings from Gareth!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 4 July 2003 03:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Hahaha trust me, Spencer, we're gonna keep calling you. I have pics of Millar kissing me! It's fantastic, you're all missing out on really bizarre drunken behavior!

Alex, I'm going to destroy your graffiti since you wont' come hang out this weekend. You think you are better than us! I even played the Ramones in your honor.

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 4 July 2003 07:59 (twenty-two years ago)

I expect slurred rantings from Gareth!

but i will not be partying in nyc, i will be working in london:(

gareth (gareth), Friday, 4 July 2003 08:04 (twenty-two years ago)

It was great talking to y'all tonight

luna (luna.c), Friday, 4 July 2003 08:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Well we'll just store his number and call him when we get you all fucked up in NYC next time you're here, Gareth, duh.

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 4 July 2003 08:07 (twenty-two years ago)

C'mon Alex, what are we, not fire-honoring enough for you?

geeta (geeta), Friday, 4 July 2003 08:09 (twenty-two years ago)

i think you need to call me unsober

anthony easton (anthony), Friday, 4 July 2003 08:13 (twenty-two years ago)

I am imagining the NYC Mega-FAP to be something like this:

Hot New Singles Bar Where Singles Grope Each Other !

kate (kate), Friday, 4 July 2003 08:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh, bah, I got a few calls on my cell after I'd knocked off for the night (it doesn't ring when it's in the charge cradle). Since I'm heading out to the country for a couple of days now (since the heat in the big city totally bites it) my cell may or may not work, depending on where I am at the time. If I don't get a chance to chat with any of you over the next couple of days, have a great time!

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Friday, 4 July 2003 11:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Alex, I'm going to destroy your graffiti since you wont' come hang out this weekend.

Do so, .....and face a bleak and unliveable future of suffering the eternal torments of the damned!

You think you are better than us!

No I don't, I KNOW I'm better than you. MUAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Just kidding.

I even played the Ramones in your honor.

See, now if you really cared, you'd have played the Joke.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 4 July 2003 14:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Alex, there is no Joke at the Magician, don't throw their lack of hipster cred on my back! I did my best and yet it wasn't good enough...haha are you working tonight? We can crank call you!

Anyway, everyone, I'll be giving tours of Alex's grafitti. $5 a head, paid in advance. You must be this tall to ride that ride! Thanks!

(Kate please don't say that, you're scaring me)

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 4 July 2003 17:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Tad (llamasfur), Friday, 4 July 2003 17:19 (twenty-two years ago)

*rimshot*

Yeah, Tad, where the fuck are you? You're too good for us too?

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 4 July 2003 17:22 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm at my uncle's place in philly. anyone wanna visit -- it's only a short walk from south street!

Tad (llamasfur), Friday, 4 July 2003 17:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, Tad, how come you never come to our FAPs?

rosemary (rosemary), Friday, 4 July 2003 17:57 (twenty-two years ago)

cause i'm mean, ugly, and smelly.

Tad (llamasfur), Friday, 4 July 2003 18:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Friday, 4 July 2003 18:23 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm heading to Prospect Park now. I'll be the one in the Adidas tennis dress.

Mary (Mary), Friday, 4 July 2003 18:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Tom Millar is a total maniac.

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Saturday, 5 July 2003 06:33 (twenty-two years ago)

All of you guys are maniacs for calling me tonight. I love you guys, but you are all maniacs. Lovable maniacs.

donut bitch (donut), Saturday, 5 July 2003 07:19 (twenty-two years ago)

1) Andrew Farrell is the loveliest man in the universe.
2) Tom Millar is whacked out of his mind.
3) Anthony Miccio is a slave to the beat.
4) The three of these men together is the most amazing, amazing interpretive dancing I have ever seen in my entire life.

The Vice party was no go, Yanc3y. I think I might've told you that.

Ally (mlescaut), Saturday, 5 July 2003 09:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Miccio particularly graceful, Millar on serious imaginary-glowstick and breakdance action

also 5) toilet paper

great to meet/see everyone. thanks to M. Daddino for wholly unnecessary niceness in getting me in touch with everyone.

gabbneb (gabbneb), Saturday, 5 July 2003 14:17 (twenty-two years ago)

So what's happening today and tonight? Personally, I'm going to be going to the Richie Hawtin thing at PS 1 on a friendster-date, from 3-9 or less; other than that...

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Saturday, 5 July 2003 14:50 (twenty-two years ago)

sorry I couldn't make it to Siberia - a mysterious allergy attack from hell had wiped me out by nightfall. feeling better now after sleep, but wondering if I'll be ok at the Masters At Work feat. Chaka Khan summerstage party (in Central Park) this afternoon...

Paul (scifisoul), Saturday, 5 July 2003 16:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Do tell: did drinking on the steps of Port Authority follow my departure?

Mary (Mary), Saturday, 5 July 2003 17:13 (twenty-two years ago)

(Bellevue is my new favorite bar.)

Mary (Mary), Saturday, 5 July 2003 17:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Haha the toilet paper!! WTF? That was so awesome. The hot bartender was up in my grill about who the dancing dudes were, she was the most awesome bartender I've seen in a long time.

Michael, are you free tomorrow?

Mary: they all decided to go to a diner. Then Aaron, Tom's friend, Andrew, Rosemary, Bryan and myself wandered aimlessly for like 5 hours, god knows why in retrospect.

Ally (mlescaut), Saturday, 5 July 2003 17:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Did Bryan keep his pants on?

Kim (Kim), Saturday, 5 July 2003 18:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Surprisingly, yes! He was a total trooper about the walking around 'til 7am thing though.

Ally (mlescaut), Saturday, 5 July 2003 18:12 (twenty-two years ago)

WTF ARE THE PICTURES, BARRUS?????????????

Ally (mlescaut), Sunday, 6 July 2003 16:51 (twenty-two years ago)

I JUST got a voice mail message from all of ILX (c/o Barrus)... you guys are all 10,000 love maniacs.

donut bitch (donut), Sunday, 6 July 2003 17:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Was that the one I burped on?

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Sunday, 6 July 2003 17:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Sheesh - okay all of you NYC FAP'ers - we all want details! Who drank too much? Who did what? Who needs to drink more? Who misplaced their panties? Who doesn't wear panties? Who has cool body piercings? How was the food? Did you have fun?

I'm Passing Open Windows (Ms Laura), Sunday, 6 July 2003 17:27 (twenty-two years ago)

PICTURES!!! WE DEMAND PICTURES!!!

That Girl (thatgirl), Sunday, 6 July 2003 17:29 (twenty-two years ago)

All I'm saying is ELECTROCLASH LEGO ROBOTS.

Ally (mlescaut), Sunday, 6 July 2003 17:41 (twenty-two years ago)

hehehe.

Just wait till i get to NYC, for a deminstration of the digging badger style.

Ed (dali), Sunday, 6 July 2003 17:45 (twenty-two years ago)

i got this in my e-mail from the NYC FAPpers -- looks like they were having some fun yes?:

Tad (llamasfur), Sunday, 6 July 2003 19:08 (twenty-two years ago)

You know, one day... um...

...okay there's nothing really I could have said on here as I'm consumed w/ jealousy, but still.... one day...

Vic (Vic), Sunday, 6 July 2003 19:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Just got back to OC and in my apartment and I'm running on about five hours sleep for the past two, three days. FUCKING GODDAMN AWESOME I LOVE EVERYBODY. More later when I am coherent and/or stop hallucinating.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 6 July 2003 20:33 (twenty-two years ago)

How did I miss this? I was busy on the 4th but I didn't realize you all were leaving so soon!

Damn it.

Paul Eater (eater), Sunday, 6 July 2003 20:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Another time, m'friend! In the meanwhile, I have started the official (?) memories of the FAP weekend thread, if you like...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 6 July 2003 20:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Dealing with pictures right now. This is the first change I had to get online since Long Beach Airport on Thursday morning.

Chris Barrus (Chris Barrus), Sunday, 6 July 2003 21:11 (twenty-two years ago)

one month passes...
The whole thing was disappointing in that no one rode the Beast with me.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 16:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Is that like "dancing the ghost"?

"Lucretia, my reflection, ride the Beast with me."

anthony kyle monday (akmonday), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 16:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Seriously, don't make fun. I kind of regret this whole event in retrospect, how did I get distracted from the Beast?

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 16:44 (twenty-two years ago)

I had lots of fun but also I felt like I'd been through a war afterwards. Alcohol and walking in the heat for hours and hours is not the greatest combo. If I did it again, I would have napped most of the day and started out in the evening instead.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 17:58 (twenty-two years ago)

in order to ride the beast
the young warrior must first
fight the bear

haikuneb (gabbneb), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 18:06 (twenty-two years ago)

...the Bear Bar?

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 18:07 (twenty-two years ago)

but also I felt like I'd been through a war afterwards

yeah, a war that we WON! :-)

BLACKOUT '03! (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 18:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Chris Barrus (Chris Barrus), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 21:17 (twenty-two years ago)

I regret this weekend as well. What a terrible waste of time and money.

Millar (Millar), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 21:19 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah, a war that we WON! :-)

Barely we emerged, bruised and tattered, with the skidmarks on our backs....;>

FUN!

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 21:24 (twenty-two years ago)

It was the worst experience ever, wtf. AND I didn't even get to ride the Beast.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 21:24 (twenty-two years ago)

one year passes...
A few times a week, I see an oddly-shaped boat out my office window. I just realized - it is the Beast!

gabbneb (gabbneb), Monday, 6 June 2005 19:14 (twenty-one years ago)

I still can't believe that I actually convinced like 10 people to go to the South Street Seaport.

Yet...still...I have not ridden...THE BEAST...

Allyzay flies casual (allyzay), Monday, 6 June 2005 19:27 (twenty-one years ago)

It'll be there for us.

(Man, that was almost two years ago now. Oh how time flies etc.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 6 June 2005 19:28 (twenty-one years ago)

eight years pass...

It seems implausible, from this distance, that none of those involved are yet dead. Er, that I know of.

Andrew Farrell, Thursday, 4 July 2013 06:59 (twelve years ago)

just dead inside *weeps*

Herbert Ruggles Tarlek Jr. (get bent), Thursday, 4 July 2013 07:22 (twelve years ago)
