I just wanted to post the mixes for the new Depeche Mode single... some interesting choices here...

Depeche Mode “Precious” Mixes…

1. Precious (Sasha's Spooky Mix - Edit) [7:33]
2. Precious (Sasha's Gargantuan Vocal Mix - Edit) [7:15]
3. Precious (Michael Mayer Balaeric Mix) [7:18]
4. Precious (Misc. Full Vocal Mix) [5:41]
5. Precious (Misc. Crunch Mix) [6:51]
6. Precious (Motor Remix) [6:37]

hmmmmm...

does anyone have a favorite mix??

"It's No Good" by Andrea Parker and LFO's mix of "Lie to Me" remain my favorites to this day... most remixes kind of annoy me because I think the songs are generally perfect on their own.

That Kid 606 mix of "Dream On" was pretty great too... Hardfloor mix in the way back machine was quite good as well.

I have always hated all remixes of "Behind The Wheel", that song should never have been tampered with... it was perfection on it's own. :)

...any others that should be highlighted?

The Orb remix of "Happiest Girl" is one of the greatest things ever recorded.

The Ghost of Black Elegance (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 30 August 2005 11:58 (twenty years ago)

damn, i forgot about that one... one of my friends in birmingham always says that is one of his favorite tracks outside of "dangerous"...

ehbenoit, Tuesday, 30 August 2005 12:09 (twenty years ago)

dude, misc. got commissioned to remix DP? the mayer doesn't totally surprise me, but that one does. not that i'm complaining!

philip sherburne (philip sherburne), Tuesday, 30 August 2005 12:21 (twenty years ago)

Just quickly: name me some key Depeche Mode remixes to look out for.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Tuesday, 30 August 2005 12:31 (twenty years ago)

Misc. and Mayer - excitement!

Actually does anyone else reckon that if you removed the vocals the Mayer mix of Baxendale would be very Violator-ish??

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Tuesday, 30 August 2005 12:37 (twenty years ago)

Give these mixes to me. Um, yesterday. Thanks.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 30 August 2005 13:07 (twenty years ago)

I GIVE TO YOU (oh wait, wrong band)

The Ghost of Black Elegance (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 30 August 2005 13:36 (twenty years ago)

(also I don't have them, so ha!)

The Ghost of Black Elegance (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 30 August 2005 13:37 (twenty years ago)

I HATE YOU, DEPECHE FAN DAN

"Actually does anyone else reckon that if you removed the vocals the Mayer mix of Baxendale would be very Violator-ish??"

i think a lot of stuff today owes DM a bit... :)

"Just quickly: name me some key Depeche Mode remixes to look out for."

thanks for that... that was before my time here on this board. i just thought the question was relevant to my post.

i have to admit a sasha mix scares me and a mayer "balaeric" mix kind of frightems me as well... balaerico was not exactly my favorite concept... right up there with happy hardcore in my honest opinion.

ehbenoit, Tuesday, 30 August 2005 13:46 (twenty years ago)

What! Happy hardcore is a fine and glorious thing.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 30 August 2005 13:47 (twenty years ago)

really, a happy hardcore fan, ned?? wow. i thought my ex was the only one. :)

ehbenoit, Tuesday, 30 August 2005 14:26 (twenty years ago)

Don't forget Dan either. And quite a lot of people here too...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 30 August 2005 15:20 (twenty years ago)

it's interesting that Sasha has named his mixes "Spooky" and "Gargantuan" after the May/Forbes seminal Progressive house album from 1993. I wonder if Charlie May had a hand in these mixes? I can't wait to hear all these mixes. Is that a tracklist for a CD single or is that just a list of all the mixes solicited?

biz, Tuesday, 30 August 2005 15:31 (twenty years ago)

unfortunately it is all the mixes... from the uk versions that is. it is broken over a couple of discs and promo items... that full list was from one promo disc.

i don't think that they have announced the us track listing yet... hopefully it will have all of those on one.

ehbenoit, Tuesday, 30 August 2005 16:09 (twenty years ago)

Dream on (ho ho). I think with only a couple of exceptions Reprise *never* puts all the mixes on a single domestic disc. One big reason why the singles boxes were so welcome (though that still leaves most of the Exciter singles stranded until box number 7...).

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 30 August 2005 16:16 (twenty years ago)

"Don't forget Dan either. And quite a lot of people here too.."

damn, maybe i should give it another go... i know i did not much like it back then, it might be a bit of association dislike. we'll see... i suppose old people can change their minds. i remember liking the gto related material of that nature, but i am not sure if that was because it was gto or if it was because i actually liked it. hmmmm... will have to check that out. ned, you wanna do me a happy hardcore mix disc???

i was reaching for the stars a little on that one... cos' you see, they are shining bright. :) i know, i kind of assume there will be tracks that i will have to hunt down... as usual. sucks

Hell, m'friend, just look for this:

Mind you, there are many other choices, so I will defer to more expert wisdom on core tracks. And surely there's a thread on this...

Charlie May is still Sasha's engineer/coproducer.

Siegbran (eofor), Tuesday, 30 August 2005 17:40 (twenty years ago)

seek out the adrian sherwood mixes of people are people and master and servant. shake the disease (edit the shake) was a good remix too. shep pettibone should have been shot for behind the wheel.

frenchbloke (frenchbloke), Wednesday, 31 August 2005 09:38 (twenty years ago)

So when is the US single for Precious set to be released? Are there UK versions out yet?

matt2 (matt2), Wednesday, 31 August 2005 13:46 (twenty years ago)

thanks, i have these... i was not looking for ones to look for, i was looking for people's favorites, i should have worded it better.

mayer, misc and sasha sound as expected (=zzz) but the motor/xlover electrohouse mix is the shit!! what a monster

don't be jerk, this is china (FE7), Thursday, 8 September 2005 10:55 (twenty years ago)

This song is quickly becoming one of my five favorite Depeche singles.

The Ghost of Black Elegance (Dan Perry), Thursday, 8 September 2005 12:10 (twenty years ago)

The Mayer mix really sounds like that Ada remix he did with Tobias Thomas. I kind of wish it was a little more varied or did something fancier in the middle. The motor mix sounds really generically stuttery to me! For some reason the misc mixes are the most pleasing right now, I'll probably switch opinions after another few listens.
